I swear by the dollar store- makeup brushes are also super helpful for weathering track and locomotives since they apply powders super easy. Love the high quality and detailed videos!
Great video and tutorial abt budget items to use for your model railroad layout. I too got a bunch of Dollar Tree items when watching D.I.Y DIGITAL RAILROAD bcuz he went each week w $5 to find items. He had made a series of videos showing what he bought. I then made a list and purchased these same items and have quite a big collection! Had to eventually get a tote to keep them in but I'm prepared lol. Thanks again for sharing your series of videos with us my friend! Happy Railroading to you from Delmar, Delaware.
Thanks Shawn! Much appreciated as always. I’ll have to go check out his videos on that! Cool to see other channels using the same stuff! And being prepared is important in this hobby haha
@@TopRailroad yeah he has a series of Dollar Tree shopping trips and shows what he found. Very helpful when you're on a budget to find neat items to use on the layout. Have a great day my friend and I know you find plenty in there!
Great video mate. I agree with the items you have shown. Dollar stores and hardware stores are the best places to find materials for building model railways. - Nicholas.
I’m a fan of using real dirt. Along with floral foam is a cheap, easy way to create landscapes. And spools of floral wire for trees. Great video. Your layout looks awesome!!!!
I know it’s late, but this saved me! I’m just now planning a HO scale project to do with my kids, 3 and 5, and this video came at the right time! Thank you!
Dirt: unfortunately I am modeling the Rio Grande west of Grande Junction Colorado. Not exactly in my back yard from northern Virginia. Oh well. I've bought as many cheap things as I can. I have gotten cheap acrylic paint and reject paint at Home Depot or Lowes. Since I'm modeling desert, i bought a bag of Sanded grout for the right color. It goes a long way.
I find your videos very informative, it's great to get a different insight into how you go about the different stages of development. Over here in the UK it is not so easy to source items so I would be grateful if you could maybe give web sites where items can be obtained. I am particularly interested in purchasing crossing signals and flasher units which are not easy to come by over here. I look forward to seeing how the layout develops. Kind regards Terry
Thank you for your comment! The Walmart and dollar tree aren’t in the UK. But after looking it up looks like you have something called ASDA, the same as Walmart I think. Other items you may be able to find on eBay. I’ll try to find specific websites for you if I can
Hi top railroad sorry I have not been here but Im back and what kind of locomotive would you like to have like a BNSF ET 44 or another switcher locomotives and what song do you use in the background
It’s okay! And that’s a tough one but I’d have to go with the ET 44 cause it’s such a nice looking engine for the mainline. And the background songs are New Day - by Patrick Patrickios and the second one is Meadows - by Ramzoid
Model trains have gotten to expensive especially now with the country in deep inflation. I had to give it up. Gotta eat and pay rent. Sold what equipment I had.

I also use wooden rulers, yardsticks and paint stirrers. They all come in handy.
Maybe I’ll include those in my next Top 5 video 😁 Good ideas
@@TopRailroad yardsticks are great for roadbed and keeping track straight.
This is so great to have this organized instruction like this ...ITs like a manual ....
The openings are fabulously real like...
Thank you so much
Excellent slow running on that geep.

I may have to included floral wire in my next one! Thank you 😁
Great tips.
I make my own sculptamold by shredding toilet paper and mixing it with plaster of Paris. And it's way cheaper. Works so good
That's a great idea!
Great video, thanks for sharing. Cheers
Honestly love this list. If I made videos like this I would copy and paste you, simply because of this originality 😊

Awesome alternative items
Thank you for sharing this I’m going to be starting to build my layout soon I’ll probably be getting most all these items as time goes by

Did you paint both sides of the wood you used for the parking lot? Usually I don’t have issues with warpage if I paint both sides.
I have tried that and it does help a lot but sometimes the corners bow up still so I stil end up putting heavy objects down on it
Great layout sir!
Very nice, like ...

Walthers mainline is best for cheap cars and locos

Hi thank you for siding this your new Buddy Jerry Sawyer from Santa Cruz.
When your back yard is a concrete slap
I was told not to use real dirt because the iron in it will stick to the magnets in the locomotives.
That could be a slight possibility but I glued it all down very well so it should go anywhere
What is not cheap is space. I wish I had this much space in my house.
I enjoyed the video but my favorite part was the use of the word Plethora .
I just made a locomotive repair video!
Just checked it out! Your much handier with engines then I am. Keep up the good work!
I saw the Hehe at the bottom of the number 2 black screen
Good eye

You can Also scratch Build Your Buildings you want with that Wood .
Definitely, it’s perfect for scratch building
