Awww man, I have a 62 convertible, 389 4 speed, and immediately went to the description to see how much you're asking for this 62, and NOT FOR SALE....D'oh!! But what an awesome car. 62 is my favorite year for the Catalina, Grand Prix etc...
Those pump jacks make good torque. My dad had a 69 Pontiac Grand Prix with the 400 4 barrel factory dual exhaust with the TH400 . Not sure what it had for gears but that car would get out & move and it actually handeled pretty good . One thing to keep an eye on is the harmonic balancers on them the rubber deteriorates and the balancer will separate that will throw the balance off and cause the end of the crank shaft to bust off because the Grand Prix my dad had did this twice and i had the same thing happen to my 73 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 400 in it years ago . I worked at S&S performance in Crystal MN and we built a 455 HO Pontiac engine with all the good Pontiac speed parts with a custom sheet aluminum intake manifold custom headers and a 3 stage nitrous system that went into a 69 Pontiac GTO all tube chassis certified big tire drag car that made over 1,200 + hp to the rear wheels on our chassis dyno at the shop . The owner of the car ran it all over the usa at different 1/4 strips and back then it was a national record setting car and was at the time the quickest and fastest all Pontiac powered drag car in the states . Im also a Chevrolet guy and Mopar guy as well and of course love them ponchos because my dad had then when i was young growing up and am 61 years old now . I definitely would like to see more videos of this pump jack for sure and I feel the car is definitely worth fixing it up and getting it painted again so keep them videos coming !
Hey, where's the term "pump jack" come from? Only thing I can find is it's a spin off on the word Pontiac. Was hoping it was more interesting than that!
The heater hose issue made this whole thing worthwhile. Glad to hear I'm not the only one that does things like this lol! Kudos to you for showing this.
I love your channel. You are a joy to watch and very down to earth. Mojo is a hoot and duff is a special companion. Thanks for rescuing him. Fix up the Catalina that thing hauls. Keep up the good work. Look forward to every episode.
that’s the best donut and engine sound you have ever had on the channel in my opinion! i hope to see this car come back on the channel and keep improving! love a good big pontiac
I thought when the Poncho was hydro locked we were getting ready to see a 348 engine swap. Glad it was an honest mistake and luck was on your side. That Pontiac is wonderful in looks and the way it SOUNDS WOW.
What a great video of that classic Pontiac Ventura; the weight on that car should be about 4250 lbs. In 1962 I was in the Navy and a buddy had a new 62 GP which was the same as the Ventura with less chrome and had bucket seats with center console 389 ci. engine and T10 4spd trans. the body was a light blue with the dark blue roof (the color of blue you commented on). That car was so exciting to drive, we drove to our home in Washington State for Christmas from San Diego in about 22 hours, that was way before the great interstate system had been built. Glad to hear that you want to keep this one I'm 84 now and have had so many muscle cars through the years that I was so sorry later that I sold. I'm looking forward to more videos on this one.
Wow Mojo gets to work in the cool part of the shop! You got some nice cars setting around! I never seen a 348 big block in real life. Also awesome job getting that hood out the silo!
@Shermhioctane yea not a fun oops moment. Had someone do better than that, a fella in the auto shop I worked at watched me take out the oil filter so could take off another part and he subsequently proceeds to crank the truck over with no oil in it!😮😮😮😂
Your Catalina reminds me of my Dad's 1962 Grand Prix. He loved that car. He bought his in 1969. His GP had the floor console and buckets seats, automatic transmission, and whatever engine the GP's came with back then. I would keep this car. Restore the interior, do the body work and paint it the original factory color. The styling of the 1962 Pontiac's were a trendsetter -- the smaller, new Grand Prix of 1970 was a real beauty too.
You gotta finish this one out even if it takes several different episodes (breaks from it)! And definitely keep it that original beige color and those tri-blue seats! As always, awesome video! Thanks good sir! 💙👊🏼

Another great episode mate. Super cool car, just needs putting back together and fix roofling and trim. i wouldnt do to much else. Its taken 62 years to get that patina. V8 manual is the best!
Yep, I watched you hook up that heater hose to the #2 intake port and was screaming at my screen "What are you doing Mortske, that's the intake port?" Sure enough when your starter wouldn't turn over I knew your engine was hydro-locked. You're lucky you didn't break a piston or bend a rod. Anyways, kudos for leaving that part in. Most would have edited that out.
I know I rip on g.m. alot but, I love this car Mort. She's a keeper!! She's got clean lines. Don't worry about hooking up the wrong hose,we all make mistakes. The only thing is ,the Pott county legend isn't gonna let you live it down 😂😂😂🤣Semper Fi brother
You guys are great! In those days if you could not get your hands on a 409, 413 Max Wedge or early 390, maybe you could talk your dad into a Pontiac. You cannot even guess how many rear tires were burned up on Saturday night with dad's car. The 421 was as bad as any.
Glad I hung around to see you troubleshoot your own screw up, nothing more satisfying than finding a definite fix. Especially if you caused the problem! Thanks for another entertaining video.
* Mortske, it says you posted this one 11hrs ago but hasn't that Poncho been sitting around your shop for many vids now ? Hey when it blows coolant all over the inner fender well it reminded me of something I've seen many times ! However the fluid isn't green . 😳 Great donut scene. Sounds great. Duff looks pleased with the ride. Cheers Man 👊😎👍 p.s. it would be nice to see it tidied up a bit better.
Nice to see Duff and mojo and you too! Bought a 1964 Grand Prix with a four-speed factory. Tac no power steering, no power brakes for $800 with 50,000 original miles when I came home from Vietnam in 1971. (Wanted a 65 GTO, but you know how it goes.) Black in and out with 8 lug. Definitely not a race winner but a nice car to drive. Out on the road. I could get it up to an honest 120. Which probably means I had the 300 gears somehow
I have a soft spot for old Ponchos... my first "good" car was a '65 Catalina 4dr hardtop. A gift from a favorite great-uncle, it had 65,000 original miles when I got it in late 1976-- it was my "going off to college" car. White with blue interior, it was the "Ventura" trim (it said so on the door panels). It had the 389/TH400 with a 2bbl carb and single exhaust, so it didn't take me too long to swap intakes and put a Quadrajet on it, and since I worked at an auto parts store, back then I was able to special order everything to change it to dual exhaust with "California Turbo" mufflers. It had some ridiculous "Highway gear" rear end (like a 2.21?), so it wasn't very fast off the line, but it would cruise over 120mph all day! Many's the day going to college that I would have 5/6 passengers riding along, daydreaming or doing homework floating along at over twice the speed limit like it was nothing. Ahhhh... the good old days!
10K Lakes in Minnesota, right? Awesome! Wisconsin has even more than that, but it's not our license plate slogan. The new slogan I voted for to replace "America's Dairyland" was: Wisconsin >Smell Our Dairy Air< !!! LOL G/F had a 1970 Catalina 400 when I met her in 1979. Big car, Yes. Ugly design, Yes. Snap your head back when you hit the Gas, Hell Yes! Also that beige color.
I hope you enjoy your Pontiac for years to come! After years of wrench turning I have done myself, those total brain numb mistakes that we make seem purposeful in some crazy kind of way! That loose wire on that starter could have burned down that Pontiac and you would have never known of the issue! “Don’t ask me how I know”! Did have a similar circumstance…. Enjoy the content so keep it coming!

Love to see more of 1962 Pontiac. I love the way your uncle set it up. always look forward to you and Duff on Mondays. Thank you again for another cool video on an old car.
Our pleasure!
Thank you for showing your mistake! Keeping it real! I really enjoyed watching you diagnose the problem too!
Thanks for watching!
A video less than 2 hours? WTF ? I thought we were going to be over 2 so we could weed out the negative Nancy's? Appreciate it all the same...thanks Mortske !!!! Sweet car !!
Love '62 Catalina's...lucky to be Mortske...
What's the cure for the Monday morning grind at work? Mortske and Son!😆
man mort. i love that you can keep your sense of humour with the heater hose.
that's what makes you "top shelf"
giver.
You gotta laugh at yourself!
Pretty good shape. Definitely a keeper
All those good comments plus the music ‘s getting way better. Thanks
YES , More Catalina please ! Hell YES!! 👍💯
Holy smokes thats a neat thing to learn from a comment, somebody who knows their way around the cars, and even did something really impressive!
Hey, where's the term "pump jack" come from? Only thing I can find is it's a spin off on the word Pontiac. Was hoping it was more interesting than that!
Every January, I have a surplus of $$$ that I wanna spend on a Mortske car. And every time I see the one I want, IT AIN’T for sale!!!!
At least you know SOME of your intake valves are good!
And the combustion chambers are CLEAN!
No doubt!
The heater hose issue made this whole thing worthwhile. Glad to hear I'm not the only one that does things like this lol! Kudos to you for showing this.
Whoops!
Great video Mortske. Hope too see more on this old Pontiac. I would probably go with the blue paint.
I love your channel. You are a joy to watch and very down to earth. Mojo is a hoot and duff is a special companion. Thanks for rescuing him. Fix up the Catalina that thing hauls. Keep up the good work. Look forward to every episode.
Thank you so much!
I would love to have that. I'd tune it up and drive the pants off it!!
Great find Mort👍👍
that’s the best donut and engine sound you have ever had on the channel in my opinion! i hope to see this car come back on the channel and keep improving! love a good big pontiac
Couldn't agree more!
I thought when the Poncho was hydro locked we were getting ready to see a 348 engine swap. Glad it was an honest mistake and luck was on your side. That Pontiac is wonderful in looks and the way it SOUNDS WOW.
Not quite!
So glad love those Ponchos@@MortskeRepair
Thanks for sharing! Great car!
Wow Mojo gets to work in the cool part of the shop! You got some nice cars setting around! I never seen a 348 big block in real life. Also awesome job getting that hood out the silo!
Did not go un noticed...lol
The guitar lead was blazing while cleaning out box trailer. Custom tunes! Never disappointed spending time watching your channel.
Coolant into a vacuum port... didn't see that one coming 😮
Who doesn't have those days! 😄🍺
@Shermhioctane yea not a fun oops moment. Had someone do better than that, a fella in the auto shop I worked at watched me take out the oil filter so could take off another part and he subsequently proceeds to crank the truck over with no oil in it!😮😮😮😂
You better hope Pudding the clown doesn't see that heater hose to the vacume port boo boo ...lol 😂
HEY! Good morning and thumbs UP!!!
🖐
Love the witty banter and sarcasm. Good thing Mojo is around to help with those starters!
True that!
Saw the 5 spokes on a Catalina knew it had to be an Uncle Terry whip HA…side note- “super Duty hood scoop” 😂
You gotta finish this one out even if it takes several different episodes (breaks from it)! And definitely keep it that original beige color and those tri-blue seats! As always, awesome video! Thanks good sir! 💙👊🏼
That's the plan!
i think you need to rock those factory hub caps
Here in Michigan, we have an authentic plate process for registering your vintage cars. That feels like an exceptional deal!
If you’re OK with driving it on weekends, or to and from car club events. As well as two and From auto repairs.
Michigan charges $35 one time fee for life to register a license plate that shows the same year as your car as long as it’s 26 years old or older
Very nice!
😂😂😂😂😂 routing a coolant line to the intake manifold intake port. That’s just a too real Homer Simpson moment. Doh!
Doh!
Throwing DD Speed Shops dad under the bus made my day.
Definition of Pontiac Poor Old Nerd Thinks It's A Cadillac
Keep fixing that one up! It deserves it!!
Another great car revival. I always look forward to Mondays and Thursdays for your and Puddins ‘s videos. Keep up the great work.
Much appreciated
I always feel like a little school boy when the old guys set me straight but man it sure is awesome to know an old guy who will take the time.
You asked in a video I watched yesterday to talk about the project we're working on. After 40 years of waiting I finally get to work on my 65 mustang coupe my dream car😊
Thanks for sharing!
you can't beat those old cars hope to see more of that car
I think this is the best car you have done so far. Awesome
Definitely need more Catalina! Glad to see a good old hot rod back on the road!
Right on!
1979.. my cousin actually gave me his ‘62 Catalina to drive from LA to Vegas. I decided to drive home to Ohio from Vegas and he said “Send me $100”!! Sold the thing 2 days before I totaled my ‘68 442
shipping weight 1692 kg / 3730 lbs estimated curb weight: 1770 kg / 3900 lbs
With a 389 in it!!!!! Not sure if the 400 weighs much more than a 389????
Mortske it is not just a Catalina it is a 1962 Pontiac Catalina Sports Coupe.
Another great episode mate. Super cool car, just needs putting back together and fix roofling and trim. i wouldnt do to much else. Its taken 62 years to get that patina. V8 manual is the best!
Magic Mojo, the man of mystery. Giving all kinds of knowledge about starters this week
This old man loves the Pontiac. Would really enjoy seeing more of it for sure
I love it when mojo starts speaking in his high-pitched voice so funny great video. Love you guys bye
You guys are great! In those days if you could not get your hands on a 409, 413 Max Wedge or early 390, maybe you could talk your dad into a Pontiac. You cannot even guess how many rear tires were burned up on Saturday night with dad's car. The 421 was as bad as any.
More Catalina, love it! Can't beat the 60s GM stuff. Super entertaining video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad I hung around to see you troubleshoot your own screw up, nothing more satisfying than finding a definite fix. Especially if you caused the problem! Thanks for another entertaining video.
That’s how mow start unfortunately
I'm glad you like it enough to keep it. Great car.
That's the plan!
Of course we wanna see more of the Catalina!!!! That thing’s AWESOME!!! Plus, my first car was a 1976 Catalina!!
Great video, lovely motor and the fact it put a massive smile on your face means it needs to stay and get more Mortske Magic.
Couldn't agree more!
Dang ! That's a nice Poncho ! Same color as my '66 Starchief. Love the big Pontiacs !
Thanks for sharing!
LOL
G/F had a 1970 Catalina 400 when I met her in 1979. Big car, Yes. Ugly design, Yes. Snap your head back when you hit the Gas, Hell Yes! Also that beige color.
My first car was a '62 stratochief 4 door, straight 6, 3 on the tree, positrac. My grandparents 1st brand new car. Floated down the road. $2000 new!
Thanks, Will do!
Racing cam with a 4-speed and a old car you can't go wrong that is so much fun and I'll put you in the seat
I recently bought one of your hoodies they are very comfortable and really warm! Thanks for your entertainment!
Awesome! Thank you!
Leave the headers on it man it sounds good and nice performance camshaft in it leave alone headers don't take them off
I know you don't "build" cars/trucks. But if you were to this one would be a super excellent candidate. Wow what a solid car.
Here in Australia $160 every 3 month's for registration, only South Australia, dosent have yearly registration checks, by registered registration stations, which I here is $80 to $140 on top of registration, nice rig ,thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
