  • After checking out the spec sheet on the Ikier K1 Pro Max Laser Etcher / Cutter, I wanted to give this new 24/48 Watt laser tool a good workout in my workshop because I have been looking for the time when advancements in laser etcher / cutter technology have elevated enough that I can consider one as serious new tool for my woodwork shop; I want to use it for etching and cutting wood and making other embellishments in woodworking; This new Ikier K1 Pro is much easier to use, when you combined with Lightburn Software we now have the ability to create or modify laser plans and the software can also be used for controlling the laser; I was so serious, I added some accessories like the Material Bed, the Dust / Safety Cover for the machine, a Rotary Tool for etch tumblers, and even a Camera for more accurate use of material; I am very happy with the results this laser can provide, it has a wide range of power and speed and is perfect for a one person woodworking shop.

    Very informative Colin, not a bad price for a mid range machine and some decent accessories. Keep us posted on how it works out, we’ve been looking for something for a couple of years now.

    Colin, you could broaden your learning curve by watching Samcraft. He has been going through similar learning curves and has a pretty advanced set up now. Of course there are a lot of guys out there but few that give it in "basic" English format. My personal favorite is Joshua De Lisle but he is an artist working mostly metal. BUT for engraving and etching and the like, these two are great .

    On your woodworkWeb logo that you printed, the lower half just looks like it added a shadow.

    These lasers remind me of the early days of personal computers. Not fully developed and a bit of an experimental approach. I have ordered one but will have to make an enclosure, buy decent eye protection, addd an aquarium air pump (half the cost of the manufacturers one, and never leave it unattended. Forgot about the fire extinguisher and smoke removal. I see a few models are emerging which include these things up front and that’s the way I will be going if I enjoy lasering stuff!

    Would've been interesting to know if it can actually cut, let's say up to 10mm plywood, because that what those machines are really useful for. Then you can cut router templates for example. Etching is nice but it only goes so far....

      Their K1 Pro claims 20mm cutting depth in wood - it's definitely both a cutting and engraving machine.

      I have a smaller, cheaper laser burner and it will cut up to 6mm. Now how many cuts it will make at this power is unknown. Coming in at around $300, my laser diode unit may burn out faster than this one shown. I use mine to cut cardboard, which it does very well.

    Thanks for the review! I’ve been looking at that exact model. Is there an online forum or community for this brand in case of questions? How has support been, if you’ve needed it? Thanks again.

    The logo at the end where you turned up the air assist almost created a 3D effect.... Or in the least made it look like you added a shadow to the text.

    I very much doubt that the power rating refers to the optical power of the laser. Manufacturers tend to mislead the customers. Be careful. 20 watts is currently the highest you can get in diode lasers.

    • @anullhandle
      @anullhandle 7 месяцев назад +1

      @langrock74 it claims that as optical power. Less reputable ones list power draw which for this one is 220 watts. I don't know how many diodes this one combines.

      xTool D1 Pro 40W, Creality Falcon 2 40W. Just to name a couple. There are 40W diode lasers on the market. They just stack more diodes to increase the power.
