65+ old guy....got into Nightwish the last 2 or 3 yrs and I'm seriously impressed. Ive been a long time rocker and I've seen this fusion of rock/metal and symphonic sounds before. Kansas, Yes and Rush have all incorporated elements of classical and symphony in varying degrees since the 70's. Kansas has performed with a full orchestra as well. Having said that, Nightwish is the most spine-tingling group I've ever heard thanks mostly to Floor's spectacular vocals. I understand their keyboardist is responsible for most of the writing and arranging on their material so that makes him responsible for that epic vibe they've had since they first got together. Rest assured you'll definitely enjoy this ride!!!

@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 :))) My life experience tells me that I cannot please everyone, no matter how hard I try. And I don't have a significant problem with that, since I'm not promoting myself in these messages. So I will continue to be "El Creepo" for those few fans with a more developed ego.
As for the allusion to the vampires from Transylvania :) although the historical facts look different, I admit that it's a beautiful fantastic theme that fuels our fantasies, and it fits quite well in the imagery and the dramatic idea of the metal genre. "Beauty and the Beast", right?.. :)

hey Stacey.....during the lockdowns and with cabin fever slowly taking hold of me, i was introduced to Nightwish by chance. I saw a father daughter reaction of Storytime from Wacken 2013...............the rest is history. Nearly four years later i'm still just as amazed by their music. I made it my choice to go see them life one day and this year June the 12th myself and my wife (Who is no metal head) flew from far South Africa to Gelsenkirchen Germany to experience this great group live. It was a true divine experience especially hearing Floor Jansen, the Valkyrie Metal Goddess, and who was nearly six months pregnant on stage. Keep up the good reactions and enjoy your Nightwish journey 😇😇😇😇

Wow gene6690 You flew all the way from South Africa to Germany for the Gelsenkirchen show, and here we thought we made an effort by driving for almost 6 hrs LOL. I agree with you though the show was magical, it was also a nice warm night and the venue is the best outside venue I have ever seen them in. (also seen them on a festival with 70,000 people as well as inside with 20,000 other people) Gelsenkirchen was just 6,000 and the sound and view was amazing. I guess it being an Amphitheater helped also. I hope they will perform there again. I know you saw an awesome show.

I'm so glad that you have decided to continue down the Nightwish path. You have so much more to see and experience. Nightwish's core remains constant, but they grow and mature with each album they deliver. The keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen is the composer of most of their music and has been called the "Metal Mozart." I see someone has suggested "Romanticide" next and that would be a good one to sample. You are doing fine, by the way. Just one little correction. Wachen is one of the largest metal festivals in the world. It is located in Germany and is pronounced "Vachen". Not a big deal, but you seem like the kind of person who likes to get things right.

Tuomas, The keyboardist, is the bands leader musical and lyrical writer. He is often referred as the Modern day Mozart. Floor is classically trained, that is where you "operatic" vibes are coming from. You have a lot to learn and waaaay more to discover here and the Nightwish Army will be along for the ride. Nice reaction. Your journey has just begun. Welcome to the world of Symphonic Metal.

Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then she created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 she released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Arya and Opera. She even sang rap. In March 2023 she launched her first Pop solo album "Paragon". THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD.
Having said that, I want to make it clear that I ADORE Nightwish songs, Walking in The Air by Tarja Turunen and Meadows of heaven by Anette Olzon.

    • @bigg2988
      @bigg2988 7 месяцев назад

Meadows of Heaven! Too bad no decent Live recording that I know of exists, but the song is mesmerizing enough to just go for the album version in this case. I recently came upon the fact even GREGORIAN (yeah, the band of "monks" singing chorale versions of popular hits) did a cover of it. Must be something. "Meadows of Heaven" is Tuomas arguably at his most poetic - and peaceful. Such a fitting closure to an album of "Sturm und Drang", and rebirth through pain, that is "Dark Passion Play".

  • @Mischnikvideos
    @Mischnikvideos Год назад +17

The guy walking around is guitarist Emppu Vuorinen. That's typical of him. Because of the many backtracks, he doesn't have to play constantly. That's why the whole band disappears from the stage in the middle of the song.
Floor is officially just the temporary help here, for 10 months. However, it had already been agreed within the band that they would become the third singer. Floor hadn't agreed easily. At the same time she was in her second band ReVamp and had recorded an album parallel to the tour and planned a tour that she is doing after Nightwish. She must have suspected that there was hardly any room for a regular band next to Nightwish. There is therefore no studio recording of any of the songs with Floor. The first regular album will be released in 2015.
One of mastermind Tuomas Holopainen's role models is the film composer Hans Zimmer. This cannot be ignored here. The song was written in 2003 when Pirates of the Caribbean was in the cinema... The ending doesn't correspond to the original. Floor it was too lame and replaced it with a dynamic one. She adapted other songs to her voice. She typically sings a mixture of pop and opera, thus combining her two predecessors.
This concert is one of the last with drummer Jukka Nevalainen. Unfortunately, he suffers from chronic insomnia and has to stop recording the next album in 2014. He asks his friend Kai Hahto to take over temporarily. He will not return and has been working in management ever since.
Floor learned humility the hard way. She is a workaholic and had a burnout in 2011 that put her out of action for 18 months. The first tour after that was with Nightwish and was a risk for everyone. Today she pays a lot of attention to her inner balance, but she hasn't managed that this year. In 2022 she survived benign breast cancer and then became pregnant. At the same time, she toured with Nightwish and also with her solo program. After the penultimate concert with Nigthwish she collapsed and was taken to the hospital. She had to cancel the last concert and the last two of her solo tour. Instead, she retreated to her small farm in the middle of nowhere in Sweden and had her second daughter.

I’m glad you mentioned this song and its relationship to Pirates of the Caribbean and how Tuomas sees Hans Zimmer as a role model. There’s an urban myth out there that people believe that Toumas wrote music for the film which of course is incorrect.

You can definitely tell that, while Tarja, Anette, and Floor all add their own special flavor and characteristics to Nightwish, the instrumental side of things is always consistent. If you ever listen to their instrumental songs like Moondance or Last Song of the Wild, you can really tell that they can stll keep the Nightwish vibe without the vocalist.

Funny enough, "Moondance" is the song that got me hooked on Nightwish... 😮 Even though I grew up in a home where opera was played relatively often, I felt that Tarja was a bit too over-the-top for my taste. After hearing "Moondance", I decided to give Tarja another shot and soon enough changed my opinion. I do think that Tarja - especially in the early years - can be a bit of an acquired taste.

Yes! I hoped that you would like this and continue exploring Nightwish. There's a lot more to experience as all their songs are different. On your reaction to "Phantom of the Opera", look for Gabriel's comment. He has a song list that is a good starting point into Nightwish. But feel free to explore on your own if you want - there are no bad Nightwish songs, only some bad recordings. If the singer is Tarja or Floor, usually the live performances are the best option. Annette most of the time sounds better in the studio versions.
Another band with a similar style is Epica. Their genre is "symphonic Death metal", but they have a wide range from ballads to harder songs. Maybe start with "Consign to Oblivion, live in Paris"!

Floor Jansen really killed this performance, she commanded the entire audience and did a pretty much flawless vocal performance.
Her dance moves during the parts where it was instrumental in between her vocal segments really brought that mystical element to life as well imo.
I think this specific performance of the song is a performance you only manage to pull of once in a lifetime.
Even as skilled musicians as they are, they are only human in the end and we do mistakes all the time, but this performance is basically almost flawless.

While every member of Nightwish is amazingly talented, their greatest strength is their lack of individual ego on stage. They don't show off or overperform. Everything they do is in service to the performance.

I had never heard of this genre of music until I heard this song a couple of years ago. It's very big in Europe but not so much in the west. Nightwish is a Finnish band and there are lots of other great groups to explore. Looking forward to watching your journey!

12:33 The Floorgasm brings yet another convert to the family !! 😁 Welcome Sister. You’re one of us now. Just FYI, that’s about 70 minutes into the show, and Floor had been killin’ it the whole way already. Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. I love watching these reaction videos and my biggest hope is that people follow and enjoy the Symphonic Metal path I was led to. Welcome to it.
A breathtaking masterpiece sung by a Valkyrie Goddess… or what Nightwish thinks of as just another day.

Welcome to symphonic metal, Stacey, and the genre’s premier practitioners (IMO)! I didn’t know the genre existed until about 10 years ago, and I was *immediately* hooked. I certainly hope you continue on this NW journey - there is so much to discover and be amazed by. Stick with live performances where you can (there’s a ton!) as that’s where this band REALLY shines. There are, or have ever been, very few acts that are their equal. Again opinion, but many seem to share it. Enjoy!
P.S. I saw your cat visit and had to laugh. Mine was lying on me as I watched your reaction. She was as disinterested though in the music as yours LOL

Another great reaction. Awesome !!! Soak it all in. Music is a wonderful thing, no matter what genre. Symphonic metal is definitely something to dig deeper into. I didn't read all the comments hear so I am not sure if anyone mentioned but the song Outlaw Torn on the Metallica S&M album is a great song. A perfect example of how to genres can meld beautifully, flawlessly. This song in particular is a great way to see that there is so much more to metal than screaming and loud guitars, which is what so many seem to assume. There is so much thought and feeling invested in this song as well as so many other Metallica, and heavy metal songs in general. Metal and hard rock have always been a way for me to temporarily leave this place, and immerse myself in the mind of someone else. As I have grown older have found that I can get to that same head space with pretty much any genre of music, depending on the song and the frame of mind at the time. Metallica S&M, the first one, you gotta go there. Thanks again for sharing.

Thanks for taking a second look at Nightwish. I saw them roughly a year before this show in 2012, a week before Anette Olzen, the second singer, left the band. I'm happy I saw them with Anette; she was fun and engaging and sounded great. That was such a fun night; a great group called Kamelot opened for them (though both bands played equal time) and had two guests, singers Elize Ryd of Amaranthe and Alissa White-Gluz, then of The Agonist and currently of Arch Enemy.
If you like drummers, one of my favorite drummers I've discovered during this musical journey I've been on for three years is a fantastic musician named Akane Hirose. She's the drummer for Japanese band BAND-MAID. The only thing I'm going to say about her is that Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin saw a BAND-MAID show and was so impressed that he had to meet her and get a pic with her. I'm going to recommend BAND-MAID's live performance of their song "Freedom" as it really shows off how good the band is and how badass Akane is. Don't do any research into the band, please, just experience them when you're ready. Here's the link.

Greetings from the Colorado Brigade of the Army... great reaction to one of THE iconic LIVE performances of ALL TIME.
Been down the Nightwish rabbit hole for about 6 years to date.
I stumbled upon the band about the same time I discovered reaction channels. This is the track that creators will grow their channel with.
It guarantees about a thousand hardcore fans and thousands more of the "less hardcore" fans.
Somebody somewhere ran some metrics on this MV and it has hundreds of millions of views that are attributed to reaction channel watchers.
And it's the most often used gateway drug for those looking for a better high. It hits all the endorphin centers!
I've been through their catalog a few times and while I'm "less hardcore" than the most dedicated fans, I've also been around the block a few times.
This band (as seen in this performance) is without flaw.
I think EVER DREAM is the perfect followup and a great introduction to their bassist/vocalist Marco Hietela. Marco is one of the OGs of METAL and possesses the very rare pure metal vocals.
This exact lineup, and there are several, is the best of them all. Sadly, two of the brilliant musicians have left for health reasons. Jukka, the drummer, left full-time drumming to be part of the management team. Marco had taken a "sabbatical" holiday from the industry for his mental health but has returned to us in other forms. (Highly recommend checking out his recent collaboration with the band Exit Eden and the MV - RUN)
The Wäcken recording is certainly one of the best "live" productions ever committed to any medium and the best source for many NW performances.
The sun, the moon and stars were in harmony for this Headlining band, for the premier metal festival at Wäcken Germany, possibly in the world, certainly in Europe.
Gabriel has provided a map for the journey to enlightenment. But it is not a Bible. Sometimes the road less traveled leads to discoveries beyond the imagination.
NW and Nightwish adjacent projects abound.
The list of performers that are connected to this lineup is staggering. Most notably is AYREON.
Ayreon is a project conceived by the brilliantly gifted Arjen Lucassen.
Multi-instrumentalist and creator of the Ayreon universe, Arjen enlists the best talent from across the genre, (Symphonic Metal) and globe to give life to his imagination. And it is VAST!
I wanted you to know that the community you're now a part of is Very welcoming, passionate AND excited to join you on your MOST EPIC EXPLORATION of your new FAVORITE BAND, singer(s), musicians and community.
The community includes, but certainly not limited to... After Forever, Revamp and Tarot. AF and Revamp are bands that Floor performed in before Nightwish and Tarot is one of the bands Marco formed prior to his tenure with NW.
Other NW adjacent experiences you MUST explore...
    Ayreon...of course
Epica... (also female lead and deeply entangled with Floor. Much to discover there.)
    Evergrey
    Kamelot
    Avantasia
Dream Theater (considered one of the Progressive Metal pioneers)
    Within Temptation (female lead)
    Amaranth (female lead)
    Delain (female lead)
    Elysion (female lead)
    Nemesea (female lead)
The Dark Element (female lead, sensing a theme?)
    Myrath
    Sonata Arctica
And so, so many more... I don't know if your intention was formed BEFORE you decided to start a reaction channel, but you could do a lot worse than jumping in with one of the most loyal fanbases.
Welcome to the army! Colorado division reporting for duty!

She can sing anything…any song, any style, any genre, and make it her own. That suits Nightwish perfectly, as they are a very versatile band…no two of their songs really sound the same, but you can’t go wrong with anything live by them, especially since Floor’s been their singer. As a next step down the Nightwish rabbit hole, I’d suggest the live version of Storytime from this same Wacken 2013 show. ☮️

I was also a bit late to the "Nightwish Buffet", I discovered them in the early 20-teens along with Epica and Within Temptation. Both are stellar and will "WOW" you. If you decide to take your journey in a COMPLETELY new direction in metal I recommend Disturbed's cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence". A live version on the Conan show is wildly popular on reaction channels as well as their Official Music Video.
Also, during your reaction to "Paranoid" you watched Geezer Butler (legend/hero) play bass with his fingers and wondered if that's painful. I started playing bass when I was about 14 and yes, at first it hurts. I practiced so much at first they bled (a little) but it doesn't take long for calluses to form and then, no pain. Playing with your fingers gives your tone a warmer, organic feel while playing with a pick has a crisp, brighter tone so it's personal preference. I preferred my fingers because a pick felt like a "middle man" that, in a way disconnected me from my instrument. With fingers I directly felt the music I was playing.

    Hello from Nightwish Army Brasil.
Congratulations on the video. It was pleasant to watch.
In music terminology we call the mixture of genres, crossover.
Now a little history of the symphonic metal genre. In the beginning, the father of the genre intended to compose metal opera. Journalists begin to use the term symphonic metal.
Nightwish is the easiest to hear sinfonic metal band. Many people who like pop music may like the NW from this accessible side. Nightwish started out as a power metal band with inspired by the band Stratovarius, this because of the keyboardist who played with the neoclassicist Yngwie Malmsteen - therefore the DNA is Deep Purple, Yngwie, Stratovarious and Nightwish.
Only later does NW become symphonic.
Other symphonic metal bands are not so easy to hear, needing to go through a stage, the NW being the first to be heard.
This is important in order not to be misled with labels. Still, what is called symphonic metal started with the extreme metal band (even inspired by the satanic and pagan metal) Swiss Celtic Frost. In the 1984 album if Morbid Tales where we heard in the songs Return to the Eve a woman in narration and Danse Macabre, this looks like a movie score with violin and something atmospheric (can be confused with gothic).
Most people mention the 1985 album To Mega Therion, because there is opera and orchestra here. From here Christopher got the name for his band, THERION.
THERION ruclips.net/video/IdUyJCd79Eo/видео.html is considered the father of symphonic metal, but it is very different from Nightwish.
They mix the 70's prog and classic composer Richard Wagner. I believe that this band is in fact symphonic for the great choirs and great orchestras, using many opera singers. The DNA would therefore be Uriah Heep, Celtic Frost and Therion.
The bands Believer (USA - 1989 Extraction from Mortality; First song Unite with orchestration) and X Japan (Japan - 1991 Jealousy with first song Es Dur are orchestral ) were never inspirations for this genre, much less for the gothic metal bands. No conection with european bandas.
The inspiration for Tuomas (main Nightwish composer) to invite a woman to the vocals is the band The 3rd and the Mortal (the best genre to describe this band is avant guard ruclips.net/video/O7xl_Oy_Rxg/видео.html ). They mix folk, melodic doom, atmospheric - Norway 1992-97. The 1993 demo on the song Grevinnens Bønn, sung by Kari Rueslatten. This would be the first woman to be a constant vocalist in a symphonic / gothic metal band.
The Gathering (Netherland) ruclips.net/video/LGidpgUn1PM/видео.html is the other pioneer, but Marike Groot sings a lot less, being a complement.
In 1992 the Norwegian band, Theatre of Tragedy ruclips.net/video/P4nTIXMmLYg/видео.html , created a feature for death, doom, gothic, operatic, atmospheric and industrial metal, the well-known vocals beauty and the beast (male and female vocals). This is another pioneer band with its own style. I don't know the inspirations for the composers of this band.
Finally, the goosebumps you said at the end of the song we called Floorgasm.
Careful. There is a battle between the fans of the 3 vocalists.
Fans of the first singer didn't like the dismissal of the first singer - the story generated an incredible song called The Poet and The Pendulum ruclips.net/video/iEzZRMthhXU/видео.html .
The second singer, who was more pop, most of them didn't listen to the first (opera singer) and didn't like her dismissal ruclips.net/video/GoRSiFgVnFk/видео.html .
Floor is the biggest headbanger (she has a metal culture) and you noticed that she took theater classes, classical singing (maximum 1 year) and shaped her style in metal.
    Sorry for the long comment.

Hi there! Welcome to the Nightiwsh rabbithole.
This band is my absolute favorite band. Their music is so versatile, no song sounds the same and every song has twist and turns that makes them fun to listen to.
Another thing that makes Nightwish so great is that the members understand that they are a part of a whole. None of them are a diva that tries to outshine the rest. They let their talent serve the music and does exactly what every song need, no more and no less.
Like Empuu, the guitar player. The solo in this song isn’t a display of his capabilities. He gives the song what it needs and does so humbly.
Then of course we have Floor. She really does what is necessary aswell, no more no less. But she really is a siren. I’ve heard her sing a page from a phone book and even that sounded beautiful.
As you said, she is extremely versatile. In this song you can hear her switch styles three times within 20 seconds. This is not something that every singer can do. She is also very good at channeling the emotions of a song. I become really emotional when I listen to her.
And as you also said she is a very humble and warm person.
There is a documentary of sorts from a dutch TV show that tells the story of her life up to joining Nightwish. It’s very personal and she shares alot about herself.
I really hope you keep exploring Nightwish’s music and I highly suggest that you react to their song Storytime next. I also recommend that you watch the performance from the same concert as this performance. That whole show was epic!
    Have a nice day!

Pssst…Stacey, first off, welcome to Nightwish, the most amazing symphonic metal band on the planet. ❤
Trying to make sense of why you feel all these different emotions as you watch her sing, I find it helps, knowing that you’re in the presence of a live mythological siren in the flesh.
I found them and this song about a year ago. I let RUclips run the gamut of creators and reactors listening to songs that I grew up with and this song popped into the mix and I’ve been in love with them ever since.
Floor is the third singer and most recent and I hope she never leaves them because she has the perfect fit.
    I love Tarja
    I love Annette
    I love Floor
    All equally.❤
But I find that when the tears are streaming down my cheeks, It’s always when I’m listening to Floor sing. She has something on her voice that is magic.
I’ve listened to people react to this song probably well over 500 times now and still can get emotional just listening to it not the reactors. And this is one of so very very many songs that are gonna blow you away like this one did.

Nightwish Army Germany reports for Duty:
The Genre is called Symphonic Metal - and they are Masters of their Craft.
Great Reaction !! I think our Queen captured another soul….:-)
It never gets old to see people freeze when our Queen starts to sing….
    About Ghost Love Score:
Standing solid as a World Pillar around which the planet revolves, Floor hits "The Note," the crowd loses their shit, the band tears a hole in the fabric of Space-Time, and 82,000 people will never, ever be the same again.
I think if you like to explore of Nightwish: Go for "Storytime" from Wacken 2013....Floor is a little more active there 🙂
Floor Jansen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Valkyries and Stonehenge, Lady of Nightwish and Protector of our Metal Realm. Long may she reign. Bow, mortal !

The drum intro is in 5/8th which is actually really difficult to do even for experienced drummer. Glad you like it! 🤘🏼

For someone that claims to know nothing about music, your analysis is fantastic. Keep on the journey. Your next listen will be your new favorite song!

Reacting to 'Ghost Love Score' (wacken 2023 or Buenos Aires 2012 ) is like an initiation on this platform, haha.

Finnish symphonic metal band 🤘The drummer in this show is Jukka Nevalainen, I respect him so much, that style and skill both in same package. The master mind behind this beautiful Nightwish music is our metal Mozart, Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards). I was at their last concert this year 17th June, I tell you...if you ever have a chance seeing them live, go! I want to suggest for Nightwish 'Song Of Myself' so beautiful but yet same time heavy, and that Jukka's drumming there...oh 🥁😎
