@@johnrose5482 I stopped listening to (new) Nightwish for years after Tarja left. I heard a couple of tracks with Annete and didn't buy any albums for 15 years. I have only recently recently started listening to what they have produced since 2005. Besides discovering Floor, I realized that I badly underrated Annete. Annete was a skilled rock vocalist when she joined, and really grew in her years with Nightwish. If she hadn't followed Tarja and preceded Floor, she would be widely respected as an outstanding vocalist. Buy Tarja and Floor are not merely outstanding. If you had a top 100 list of best vocalist ever recorded, both of them would be high on the list. I will admit to preferring Tarja - I think that is not just because I heard her first, but because of her natural tonal quality. I've distilled it into this: Floor is as skilled and talented as Tarja is talented and skilled.

London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Here's something no one else has told you. This woman's voice can cure cancer, and I am the living proof. I discovered this band while undergoing treatment for stage 4 colon cancer. I would listen to Nightwish during chemo infusion treatments. In May of 2022, I saw them perform live in Chicago. I stood twenty feet away from Floor Jansen and her Nightwish brothers. Her voice shook my body. Six weeks after that show I was declared cancer free. This band saved my life.
I mean, that's something I can truly believe. I've seen her do things which aren't exactly natural for a human being to do, so it wouldn't surprise me if she can also cure cancer tbh. Btw, Congrats for having the courage to go through the journey, for your resilience, and for killing the beast!

The one and only Floor Jansen. The Queen of Metal and Valkyrie Goddess. The best female vocalist of this generation. This woman can sing everything. Even phone books. From growling to highes notes. This woman is perfection and at the same time absolutely down-to-earth and lovable.

I've followed Nightwish from the start, and first time i saw them live was in 98 or 99. I thought Tarja Turunen has an amazing voice. When Tarja left the band, i thought Nightwish is done, they can't replace her. I was young, stupid and i thought i knew everything about music. Then Floor arrived and changed everything and helped Nightwish reach their full potential. I can't listen to old albums from Tarja's era without shame and embarassament. Over hyping leads to worshipping mediocrity

I'm not part of the Nightwish army or anything but I do appreciate the hell out of this band previous and current members. I check on YT every now and then since I started to notice that reaction vids work in something like "seasons". They make rotations then disappear for a while then all of a sudden they're back on heavy rotation. I've been keeping any eye on G.L.S reactions because I enjoy watching 1st reactions to them and hope they can become a household name here in the USA. They deserve it.

You have now been introduced to our 6 foot Dutch Valkyrie Queen, Floor Jansen. One of the most incredible, versatile voices on the planet and one of my favorite bands. Their music is generally classified as symphonic metal. If you want a real treat, look at I Want My Tears Back live from the decades tour in Buenos Aires. The Lead singer, Floor Jansen is and enigmia, she is one of the strongest, most empowered woman in the world, yet she is so kind so shy, so family oriented, and she is an empath she gets her power from the crowd and the people around her, and she is the type of woman that you girls should hold as your role model. She is 6'1" and from the Netherlands, she is married to the drummer of the Swedish heavy metal band SABATON, Hannes van Dahl and they live on a ranch in Sweden with all their horses dogs and cats and two daughters Freya(7), and Lucy(4 mons). Floor and beaten Breast Cancer in 2022 and was back on stage 4 weeks after the surgery. She is a powerhouse, she also does solo work and just released her first solo album "Paragon" in April and it is 180 out from what she sings in Nightwish, it is more soft rock oriented, also check out her appearance on the Dutch singing show "Beste Zangers" especially Phantom of the Opera. Well you finally get to hear one of the best vocalist in the world....period. Floor can sing anything and that is why Nightwish can play anything. She has sung is 6 languages, sung Pop, Jazz, Metal, Rock, and even growls when needed. She is married to the drummer of Sabaton, and has a pair of lungs compared to a deep sea diver and breathe control to die for. I discovered NightWish during the pandemic. They immediately became my favorite band , and I listen to them nearly every day. They are so good with Floor on vocals. So many good songs and so many different sounds. Heavy, rock, slow, bluesy, etc. they are so great!

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’ 'Wild Card' and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RUclips. That time it was with Tarja (original vocalist) as the lead singer. Nightwish music is unique, for me it doesn't matter who of the ladies (Tarja, Anette or Floor) sings, music remains. But I enjoy most the current vocalist, Floor. Her versatility is mind blowing. And welcome to the NW rabbit hole, we have cookies...😂 I can see that Gabriel have been here in the comment section. I have followed Nightwish for some time now and have just about every Nightwish recording, live and studio and not a single track I don't like.
Don't expect every Nightwish song to be like this. Every song is different and each one an adventure. Stick to live performances from different concerts and you'll hear how versatile they. Happy New year from an 83years old Aussie.

Consider it Lightning in a Bottle - this particular concert from 2013. Floor is a Master of her instrument and really the reason I showed up today. Ghost Love Score was #13 or 15 on the set list. Other wonderful performance from this show are Ever Dream and Nemo. You'll be encouraged to listen to the entire concert, but unless you're pretty immersed in metal, not all will match this performance. I don't consider myself a Nightwish fan like the majority of the folks you'll find here. I'm really a fan of Floor's and her solo projects. After first seeing her solo performances from her appearance on the Dutch tv show Beste' Zangers it solidified my fandom of Floor and she introduced me to Nightwish. Hello Ladies, this was song 13 of 15 at this concert and Floor had been singing, head banging, windmilling and dancing for an hour and 10 minutes before this song. Hello ladies! First, this song was towards the end of the concert. Wacken, Germany, is like Woodstock in America: A cattle town of about 1800 people -- "Small Village Germany." But anyway, Wacken Open Air Festival in 2013 had Nightwish as the headlining band on Day 4, the final day of the festival. And 82,000 people attended this concert -- while so many people have reacted to this song, it has become the most reacted-to song on the internet. I daresay more people have listened to metal who never would have, thanks to this song. And, this concert is so well-made, so perfect in terms of filming and recording, that it is considered by many, including me, to be the best song and best concert ever recorded. And what gets me? Floor Jansen wasn't even the "official singer" yet! She had only been with the band for 10 months, and when she began, she had been recovering from performance burn-out. My personal Top 5 tracks by Nightwish are: 1) Shoemaker 2) Weak Fantasy, Nightwish Cruise 3) Romanticide, Wacken 2013 4) Ever Dream, Wacken 2013 5) Dark Chest of Wonders, Wacken 2013 And, ladies, Tuomas (pronounced "two-ah-mus") Holopainen, the keyboardist and composer for Nightwish, has also produced other works as well! My favorite is an album he wrote based on Scrooge McDuck, the Disney character, for a comic artist named Don Rosa. As someone who attended this festival and was in the first row of this amazing show I can tell you it was something I will never forget. You are all three at the start of an amazing journey . Enjoy.
Have seen them this summer. Floor was in the 7th month of her 2nd pregnancy and had a breast cancer surgery less than a year prior. She did the full 2,5 hours, never skipping a note, ending with a 20 minute song demanding more stamina than I could muster. Just an otherworldly stage presence and a once-in-a-generation vocalist.
Welcome ladies to a band that delivers Epic music. They are a collective of very talented musicians in their own right, who play for the music. No showoffs here. The music they play is 95% written by the keyboardist Tuomas. Welcome from eastern North Carolina.
Now... I recommend starting with the first song of the Wacken 2013 concert -- "Dark Chest of Wonders" -- and just make your way through the set list in order. My very favorite Nightwish songs are in this set list: Ghost River, Dark Chest of Wonders, Ever Dream, Storytime, and Ghost Love Score. Floor Jansen along with the whole band made that concert unbelievably amazing. Divinely inspired performers, all of them.... but especially Ms. Floor Jansen. Goddess, for sure.
Nightwish is the top symphonic metal band today... hailing from Finland, the band has fused operatic vocals, movie soundtrack & classical influences and heavy metal... Floor Jansen (lead vocals) is the 3rd (female) singer in Nightwish. Quick history: Nightwish was formed as a studio project in the mid-90's by Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) who writes the majority of songs and lyrics... Initially an acoustic project, Tuomas asked 18 yr old Tarja Turunen to provide female vocals... but Tarja's powerful, operatic voice inspired Tuomas to go back to heavy metal... He completed the 1st Nightwish album 'Angels fall first' in 1997 for Spinefarm Records, before they even played a show... Emppu Vuorinen (guitar) and Jukka Nevalainen (drums) were enlisted for Nightwish and bassist Sami Vanska was hired as Nightwish made their live debut. Tuomas did the male vocals in the studio, but didn't like his voice - he hired male vocalists in the studio after that. Nightwish came up quickly in Europe w/ the album 'Oceanborn' (1998) and 'Wishmaster' (2000) ... In 2002, the pressure of fame and Tuomas' disillusionment led to the 'Century Child' album w/ Marco Hietala (bass/ male vocals) joining. Nightwish took a year off before reconsidering splitting up and released the album 'Once' in 2004 as Nightwish made the leap to arenas in Europe & S. America on tour, but they were still unknown in N. America and Asia. Unfortunately, lead singer Tarja was not enthusiastic about touring clubs in N. America for less money and tensions between her and the band (disagreements w/ business and touring) led to Tarja being fired in 2005 as she intended to work on a solo album. Tarja launched a solo career in '07 w/ the album 'My winter storm'... She tours sporadically and has released more solo albums since then. In 2007, Nightwish finally announced a new album 'Dark passion play' w/ new female vocalist Anette Olzen from Sweden - she was not an operatic singer like Tarja... but Tuomas wanted a change from the operatic vocal delivery... Nightwish toured extensively and got bigger worldwide w/ a new singer... Nightwish released a concept album 'Imaginaerum' in 2011 and unfortunately, things between the band and Anette Olzen fell apart on tour. Anette was pregnant in 2012 but insisted that she do the Fall US tour... She was hospitalized in Denver, Colorado and Nightwish had to perform w/ substitutes that night... The band opted to send her home and end her tenure in Nightwish... Floor Jansen (vocals) was asked to fly to the US and learn their set in 48 hrs and finished the tour... She and Troy Donockly (multi instrumentalist - pipes, mandolin guitar) were both asked to join Nightwish in 2013 as Floor was featured on their live DVD/ CD 'Storytime, showtime'. Floor Jansen is from the Netherland, joining her first band as a teen named After Forever... the band recorded several stellar symphonic metal albums in the 2000's before the band split up in 2009... Floor formed a new band ReVamp in 2010 and released 2 albums w/ them ('ReVamp' in 2010 and 'Wild card' in 2013)... Floor Jansen also recently released her solo album 'Paragon' in 2023. After joining Nightwish, Floor Jansen debuted on their 2015 album 'Endless forms most beautiful' ... original drummer Jukka Nevalainen left the band and was replaced by Kai Hahto (drums) and Nightwish celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2018 w/ a 'best of' album 'Decades'. Nightwish released the album 'Human Nature' in 2020 as the pandemic hit and canceled all touring until 2021... Bassist/ male vocalist Marco Hietala left the band to focus on other projects... he was replaced by Jukka Koskinen (bass) and Nightwish are currently working on a new album.

@@johnrose5482 I stopped listening to (new) Nightwish for years after Tarja left. I heard a couple of tracks with Annete and didn't buy any albums for 15 years. I have only recently recently started listening to what they have produced since 2005.
Besides discovering Floor, I realized that I badly underrated Annete. Annete was a skilled rock vocalist when she joined, and really grew in her years with Nightwish. If she hadn't followed Tarja and preceded Floor, she would be widely respected as an outstanding vocalist.
Buy Tarja and Floor are not merely outstanding. If you had a top 100 list of best vocalist ever recorded, both of them would be high on the list. I will admit to preferring Tarja - I think that is not just because I heard her first, but because of her natural tonal quality.
I've distilled it into this: Floor is as skilled and talented as Tarja is talented and skilled.

About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Here's something no one else has told you. This woman's voice can cure cancer, and I am the living proof.
I discovered this band while undergoing treatment for stage 4 colon cancer. I would listen to Nightwish during chemo infusion treatments. In May of 2022, I saw them perform live in Chicago. I stood twenty feet away from Floor Jansen and her Nightwish brothers. Her voice shook my body.
Six weeks after that show I was declared cancer free.
This band saved my life.

The best female vocalist of this generation. This woman can sing everything. Even phone books. From growling to highes notes. This woman is perfection and at the same time absolutely down-to-earth and lovable.
Growling plus a little bit of Opera. Check out her cover of 'O Mio Babbino Caro', she sang that Aria all alone before she was in Nightwish. :)
There's a clip when some radio station asked her about that statement with the phone book. Floor asked for a phone book and sang part of it. It sounded good. Q.E.D. 🙂

I've followed Nightwish from the start, and first time i saw them live was in 98 or 99. I thought Tarja Turunen has an amazing voice. When Tarja left the band, i thought Nightwish is done, they can't replace her. I was young, stupid and i thought i knew everything about music. Then Floor arrived and changed everything and helped Nightwish reach their full potential. I can't listen to old albums from Tarja's era without shame and embarassament. Over hyping leads to worshipping mediocrity

I'm not part of the Nightwish army or anything but I do appreciate the hell out of this band previous and current members. I check on YT every now and then since I started to notice that reaction vids work in something like "seasons". They make rotations then disappear for a while then all of a sudden they're back on heavy rotation. I've been keeping any eye on G.L.S reactions because I enjoy watching 1st reactions to them and hope they can become a household name here in the USA. They deserve it.

You have now been introduced to our 6 foot Dutch Valkyrie Queen, Floor Jansen. One of the most incredible, versatile voices on the planet and one of my favorite bands. Their music is generally classified as symphonic metal. If you want a real treat, look at I Want My Tears Back live from the decades tour in Buenos Aires. The crowd was insane and Floor dances a jig onstage. Plus you get to hear the sixth member, Troy, on the Irish Bagpipes. Yes, I said bagpipes!!!

This is the greatest band in the world, with the most humble, and gracious members. The Lead singer, Floor Jansen is and enigmia, she is one of the strongest, most empowered woman in the world, yet she is so kind so shy, so family oriented, and she is an empath she gets her power from the crowd and the people around her, and she is the type of woman that you girls should hold as your role model. She is 6'1" and from the Netherlands, she is married to the drummer of the Swedish heavy metal band SABATON, Hannes van Dahl and they live on a ranch in Sweden with all their horses dogs and cats and two daughters Freya(7), and Lucy(4 mons). Floor and beaten Breast Cancer in 2022 and was back on stage 4 weeks after the surgery. She is a powerhouse, she also does solo work and just released her first solo album "Paragon" in April and it is 180 out from what she sings in Nightwish, it is more soft rock oriented, also check out her appearance on the Dutch singing show "Beste Zangers" especially Phantom of the Opera. I was at their live concert 17th of June this year and I tell you, if you ever have a chance seeing them live, go!
Well you finally get to hear one of the best vocalist in the world....period. Floor can sing anything and that is why Nightwish can play anything. She has sung is 6 languages, sung Pop, Jazz, Metal, Rock, and even growls when needed. She is married to the drummer of Sabaton, and has a pair of lungs compared to a deep sea diver and breathe control to die for. Enjoy the journey you just started and Gabriel will give you menu that will keep you busy for a long time with this band. My husband is hoping that Nightwish, Sabaton, Lovebites, and Asterism all meet on the stages of Wacken Music Festival (Germany) next August, 2024. He want Floor (6' 1") and Asami/Lovebites (4' 10") to do a duet together....LOL

I discovered NightWish during the pandemic. They immediately became my favorite band , and I listen to them nearly every day. They are so good with Floor on vocals.

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’.
Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera).
'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’ 'Wild Card' and ‘Disdain’.
Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’
Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see.
Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RUclips. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered RUclips in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish.

This version of Ghost Love Score is the RUclips video with the most reaction videos. The song is from 2004 and was originally sung by the first singer Tarja Turunen. This is Floor Jansen, who has been the temporary help here for 10 months and is now the third singer. This version has a changed ending from the original.
The song is one of the last songs of the concert, which is why there is already a lot of crowd surfing. Some people later complained that security allowed too many people in.
Symphonic Metal is typically European and the USA has a hard time with anything that takes place outside the States.

As I was 1998 when I saw them for the first time live (in Helsinki, Finland). That time it was with Tarja (original vocalist) as the lead singer.
Nightwish music is unique, for me it doesn't matter who of the ladies (Tarja, Anette or Floor) sings, music remains.
But I enjoy most the current vocalist, Floor. Her versatility is mind blowing.

I saw them live at Wembley in November 2022 and it was the most amazing experience. To hear more from them, I suggest you follow Gabriel's list or pick and mix from it. I have followed Nightwish for some time now and have just about every Nightwish recording, live and studio and not a single track I don't like.

Consider it Lightning in a Bottle - this particular concert from 2013. Floor is a Master of her instrument and really the reason I showed up today. Ghost Love Score was #13 or 15 on the set list. Other wonderful performance from this show are Ever Dream and Nemo. You'll be encouraged to listen to the entire concert, but unless you're pretty immersed in metal, not all will match this performance.
I don't consider myself a Nightwish fan like the majority of the folks you'll find here. I'm really a fan of Floor's and her solo projects. After first seeing her solo performances from her appearance on the Dutch tv show Beste' Zangers it solidified my fandom of Floor and she introduced me to Nightwish. Hello ladies!
First, this song was towards the end of the concert. Wacken, Germany, is like Woodstock in America: A cattle town of about 1800 people -- "Small Village Germany."
But anyway, Wacken Open Air Festival in 2013 had Nightwish as the headlining band on Day 4, the final day of the festival. And 82,000 people attended this concert -- while so many people have reacted to this song, it has become the most reacted-to song on the internet. I daresay more people have listened to metal who never would have, thanks to this song. And, this concert is so well-made, so perfect in terms of filming and recording, that it is considered by many, including me, to be the best song and best concert ever recorded.
And what gets me? Floor Jansen wasn't even the "official singer" yet! She had only been with the band for 10 months, and when she began, she had been recovering from performance burn-out.

As someone who attended this festival and was in the first row of this amazing show I can tell you it was something I will never forget. You are all three at the start of an amazing journey . Enjoy.
Have seen them this summer. Floor was in the 7th month of her 2nd pregnancy and had a breast cancer surgery less than a year prior. She did the full 2,5 hours, never skipping a note, ending with a 20 minute song demanding more stamina than I could muster. Just an otherworldly stage presence and a once-in-a-generation vocalist.

Now... I recommend starting with the first song of the Wacken 2013 concert -- "Dark Chest of Wonders" -- and just make your way through the set list in order. My very favorite Nightwish songs are in this set list: Ghost River, Dark Chest of Wonders, Ever Dream, Storytime, and Ghost Love Score. Floor Jansen along with the whole band made that concert unbelievably amazing. Divinely inspired performers, all of them.... but especially Ms. Floor Jansen. Goddess, for sure.
Nightwish is the top symphonic metal band today... hailing from Finland, the band has fused operatic vocals, movie soundtrack & classical influences and heavy metal... Floor Jansen (lead vocals) is the 3rd (female) singer in Nightwish.
Quick history: Nightwish was formed as a studio project in the mid-90's by Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) who writes the majority of songs and lyrics... Initially an acoustic project, Tuomas asked 18 yr old Tarja Turunen to provide female vocals... but Tarja's powerful, operatic voice inspired Tuomas to go back to heavy metal... He completed the 1st Nightwish album 'Angels fall first' in 1997 for Spinefarm Records, before they even played a show... Emppu Vuorinen (guitar) and Jukka Nevalainen (drums) were enlisted for Nightwish and bassist Sami Vanska was hired as Nightwish made their live debut. Tuomas did the male vocals in the studio, but didn't like his voice - he hired male vocalists in the studio after that.
Nightwish came up quickly in Europe w/ the album 'Oceanborn' (1998) and 'Wishmaster' (2000) ... In 2002, the pressure of fame and Tuomas' disillusionment led to the 'Century Child' album w/ Marco Hietala (bass/ male vocals) joining. Nightwish took a year off before reconsidering splitting up and released the album 'Once' in 2004 as Nightwish made the leap to arenas in Europe & S. America on tour, but they were still unknown in N. America and Asia.
Unfortunately, lead singer Tarja was not enthusiastic about touring clubs in N. America for less money and tensions between her and the band (disagreements w/ business and touring) led to Tarja being fired in 2005 as she intended to work on a solo album.
Tarja launched a solo career in '07 w/ the album 'My winter storm'... She tours sporadically and has released more solo albums since then.
In 2007, Nightwish finally announced a new album 'Dark passion play' w/ new female vocalist Anette Olzen from Sweden - she was not an operatic singer like Tarja... but Tuomas wanted a change from the operatic vocal delivery... Nightwish toured extensively and got bigger worldwide w/ a new singer... Nightwish released a concept album 'Imaginaerum' in 2011 and unfortunately, things between the band and Anette Olzen fell apart on tour.
Anette was pregnant in 2012 but insisted that she do the Fall US tour... She was hospitalized in Denver, Colorado and Nightwish had to perform w/ substitutes that night... The band opted to send her home and end her tenure in Nightwish... Floor Jansen (vocals) was asked to fly to the US and learn their set in 48 hrs and finished the tour... She and Troy Donockly (multi instrumentalist - pipes, mandolin guitar) were both asked to join Nightwish in 2013 as Floor was featured on their live DVD/ CD 'Storytime, showtime'.
Floor Jansen is from the Netherland, joining her first band as a teen named After Forever... the band recorded several stellar symphonic metal albums in the 2000's before the band split up in 2009... Floor formed a new band ReVamp in 2010 and released 2 albums w/ them ('ReVamp' in 2010 and 'Wild card' in 2013)... Floor Jansen also recently released her solo album 'Paragon' in 2023.
After joining Nightwish, Floor Jansen debuted on their 2015 album 'Endless forms most beautiful' ... original drummer Jukka Nevalainen left the band and was replaced by Kai Hahto (drums) and Nightwish celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2018 w/ a 'best of' album 'Decades'.
Nightwish released the album 'Human Nature' in 2020 as the pandemic hit and canceled all touring until 2021... Bassist/ male vocalist Marco Hietala left the band to focus on other projects... he was replaced by Jukka Koskinen (bass) and Nightwish are currently working on a new album.
