It's too easy for us guys to forget how much effort you have to put in to make brilliant videos like this. Thank you Phil! I randomly stumbled across you around 18 months ago and your reviews and enthusiasm got this middle aged bloke into RC. Here I am, 9 cars later (3 of them FTX!) and my new hobby brings me so much joy. Thank you mate 😊
As someone who always, tries to get the most performance and fun out of cheap rigs, I appreciate this video very much! As I see far too much of the "throw money at the problem" solutions alot of people seem to make in the RC hobby, when it's not really even necessary, while they look/talk down to those who enjoy cheaper rigs. Thank you!
Hi your content is spot on thanks 👍🏻 looking at buying two of these types of rock crawlers for my kids, could you recommend a cheaper equivalent please? I don’t expect it to be as good so no pressure! Thanks 👍🏻👊🏻
@@andybils6141 I'm definitely not an expert, but I bought an FTX Ravine after many online recommendations (including from this channel), and it's great for under £100.
Bought my 6yr old son the ftx hi-rock last Christmas been very abused on 3s only. All that's broke so far is 1 Motor, pinion and spur. He has treated it like a submarine,a basher and lastly a crawler,am more than impressed with it, and have just ordered the ftx trekka and will also buy the ftx fury eventually.
I bought the RGT 86100 outback ( fury) a few years ago..one of favorite trail trucks for performance and looks. Turning radius not great but by toeing out each front wheel, it helped. Also, cut the front wheel wells back toward the door hinge panel so I could re-drill where the front wheel fenders are so I could move er them backwards toward the front doors. This was required to fit 2.2 tires on 2.2 M.T wheels. 100mm King Shocks. It was good on 1.9 tires, now it's better on 2.2. Other than this, I haven't changed a thing. Really nice rc. Going on 3 years. Love your reviews on cars...
I own 4 FTX models and I have 0 complaints about any of them. We're not all made of money so we need good budget models for our hobby. I don't own a crawler yet but when I do buy one it will be an FTX.
I love my FTX cars (Mauler, Paso, 2 Zorro's). The Mauler had a new motor after 2 runs, but, apart from a new steering servo, is stock. The Paso has had the bumper cut, and some Proline Hyrax knock offs put on it, and it's amazing now. Don't knock FTX until you've tried them. 😎👍🏻
What a great truck, and now with the small motor upgrade even more capable. You really did hammer it at EAST 23. So glad you won the Strip and Clean. The event raised £2,500 for a mens mental health charity. Thankyou so much for the shoutout, so glad i got that footage ! (There is a playlist coming out soon of my 6 videos from the event if people are interested in finding out more about it)
In the first year of owning my traxxas trx4 sport, I needed to replace the servo arm, new motor and even the transmitter trigger spring! We had an FTX outback mini last for 2 years before it died and that was because my son drowned it in sea water and didn’t wash it.
I absolutely love those fusion hobbywings. I've bought 3 now. So glad ya chucked one in there!! Great review, great job torturing that truck, and good job pulling that strip n clean ticket!! Keep up the great work man!!
Speaking from experience. I've got an FTX Fury, used it for almost 2.5 years now, and I've absolutely abused it, rolled it countless times and the only things that really "broke" were the rear diffs got slack and the spur gear shredded. This is more than likely user error because I did abuse the hell out of it. I'd highly advise getting a brushless system like the hobbywing fusion and a cheap Chinese metal gearbox from Ali express TLDR: very very good cheap crawler and rarely breaks.
I am still running my fury 2.0, with a few mods like 1080 and better motor, but its soon to get a 76 Ford F-150 shell if all goes to plan, the fury is a great platform, nothing has failed at all on mine......so far
3:59 What you can do is put some sort of lube on both bearings and it will fix or extend the life of your motor. I did a video on this a long time ago. I got 5 years of use out of my Titan 550 in my 4tec 2.0 before the bearings got so bad that you could see physical movement in the bearing. I don’t know how bad those motor bearings are, but it is a quick cheap fix for that!
I have 2 RGT crawlers. Same manufacturer I think, and have no complaints. Very upgrade able. Didn’t wait for my motor to fail to install fusion’s 2300. Ohhh weee. Fun Jeep.
I have cheap trail trucks all 1/24. But have had minimal issues with them standard, but i am not really punishing mine. Lol. Upgrades will happen, but im happy.
I have an FTX Outback Texan which is still going strong for like 2 years now. So far I have replaced the steering servo and the receiver, it did not function well as a submarine apparently which I found out when it fell of a bridge in a 2m deep lake so I had to fish it out. Some bearings were gone, I managed to destroy the pinion gear and some shocks have started leaking, all have been replaced. I have taken everything apart, cleaned and lubricated it a couple of times over those 2 years, but overall I have been very happy with it and am planning on doing some more upgrades to it when I have some spare cash.
You're right they are pretty durable and very very good value for the money ! We have RGT here in Asia, which is basically the same as FTX in the UK, I own the jeep rubicon v2 aka ex86100v2 with no bucket on the back. This thing is my favorite 🔥
I had no doubts this rig would work out well for you. I have the Pro version of the first gen, RGT branded, and it's been really nice. That one has all the metal upgrades and carbon fiber chassis rails as standard, and has some really nice shocks as well. For the price, that one is hard to beat. Spares for the RGT/FTX aren't all that expensive either, which is nice - not that I have needed to replace anything yet. :)
@@TomleyRC I have been running it with a Rhino Esc and a 9imod outrunner for a while, and that combo is amazing. Took it out of the RGT yesterday, and installed it in a brand new lcg build I did yesterday. Will install a Holmes Hobbies motor and an isdt esc70 back into the RGT. Should work well, but nothing like the outrunner. I'll be able to get it wet again though, so that's a plus. 😁

If you can get parts for a cheap crawler, Than they are probably worth the money! Well done Video Phil! That was an awesome prize idea in that raffle!👍🏻😎✨

Was great to experience that raffle in person.. was just meant to be 😂! My RGT is still going strong with the same motor and electronics from new. Great video Phil.

Great cars, great channel, great reviews, hope you are going to stay in this country...
I did a video with my ravine "chasing" phils $1,000 "Golden Goat" Capra, the only thing that let the ravine down was tyres, i got some better ones (and metal beadlocks) put a lil weight on the front axle (car alloy wheel weights) and it kicks butt !
Great video, bud, and a real stroke of luck winning the full maintenance overhaul! The look on that guy's face was priceless :D Oh hey, do me a favour, can you let me know now if you're planning to stop funding the NHS, welfare system, police, defence etc as soon as you've made enough money from us watching your content? No idea why that question popped into my head...
I did it all and it was a job believe me but well worth it. And to only cooked motor and one input bearing it was amazing to see after the abuse that car been through. 👍🏻👍🏻
Please try the land rover defender new version of Roading which is also worth it or not do off-roading review please 🥺 please please please please please
Im seriously upset how all rc manufacturers make parts only specific to there vehicles...my idea is to use standard bearings and bushings from skate boards so the wheels are robust and wont require beafing changes every 3 months...second i want to use the traxxas 2wd gear box set up because you have to admit...lined up gears is way better then 90 degree off set sungears that easily strip when the frame bends on landings and impacts. My goal is a terminator carbon fiber all out durable rc set up...when im done ill send pics😄..good day old freind .
I want to win, i think its a awesome truck. Thank you for reviewing fhe rigs that us poor people might can get. I live watching your take on things and seeing you get to be rewarded for your hard work and dedication to the hobby and in life in general. I have TRAXXAS slash , Traxxas 4tec 3.0, and that's it so you know i need a decent rig lmfao. Im no fanboy of Traxxas but I'm also a opportunity taker lol and they were both cheap. Had a crawler but git rid of it. Thank you for your service, i also carried my flag on my shoulder. I don't even know if its possible to win but i just wanted to say hi and thank you for your show and you are amazing to watch!!!
Noobs claim Arrma are the best thing since sliced bread but in truth they're built cheap and love bending yet cost far more than they're worth just goes to show you dont have to spend over rated arrma money to have fun
He's saying something I'm not picking up... Why would he be putting *_"GTA V"_* on his steering knuckles? Lester no likey. But really what is this lube he's mentioning?

Haha… it was meant to be 😅
I did it all and it was a job believe me but well worth it. And to only cooked motor and one input bearing it was amazing to see after the abuse that car been through. 👍🏻👍🏻
Please try the land rover defender new version of Roading which is also worth it or not do off-roading review please 🥺 please please please please please
I really wanted first edition of this rgt, then second came out, i want it a lot more, but ivm not sure i can afford this hobby.
Broke my ftx outback servo within 2 days, plastic gear snapped. Gave me room for a 20kg servo upgrade
You can tell Tomley isn't full of #2 because he can't even remember it. 😉🤣
Lol
Hi, would anybody here be able to help me which one is better ftx outback fury 2.0 or the ftx hi-rock
3years with a 50 dollar mn99s and it’s still chugging along. Some cheapos can be worth it
Great review 👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers dude
Im seriously upset how all rc manufacturers make parts only specific to there vehicles...my idea is to use standard bearings and bushings from skate boards so the wheels are robust and wont require beafing changes every 3 months...second i want to use the traxxas 2wd gear box set up because you have to admit...lined up gears is way better then 90 degree off set sungears that easily strip when the frame bends on landings and impacts. My goal is a terminator carbon fiber all out durable rc set up...when im done ill send pics😄..good day old freind .
How much did this RC crawler cost?
Does anybody know what crawlers are for?do they know what these trucks are made for..
They look nice but they aren't a good deal here in the U.S. they are $460 and the TRX 4 is $500 and much better.
its pretty simular to the rgt ex86100 rock cruiser
Wait... so the steering servo lasted that long? Was it or is it stock?
Seems so!
If Kevin Talbot is Richard Hammond, you're James May
Clarkson surely 😂
I want to win, i think its a awesome truck. Thank you for reviewing fhe rigs that us poor people might can get. I live watching your take on things and seeing you get to be rewarded for your hard work and dedication to the hobby and in life in general. I have TRAXXAS slash , Traxxas 4tec 3.0, and that's it so you know i need a decent rig lmfao. Im no fanboy of Traxxas but I'm also a opportunity taker lol and they were both cheap. Had a crawler but git rid of it. Thank you for your service, i also carried my flag on my shoulder. I don't even know if its possible to win but i just wanted to say hi and thank you for your show and you are amazing to watch!!!
that win was almost faith haha
I got the crawler as soon as I saw your video
great video agian 👍
Thank you
I think this thing needs an airsoft turret on it so that it could go where the infantry couldn't, as well as outmaneuvre and outpace them.
Wow nice video sir
Great vid
Ain't nowt wrong with FTX.
Agree 👌
Noobs claim Arrma are the best thing since sliced bread but in truth they're built cheap and love bending yet cost far more than they're worth just goes to show you dont have to spend over rated arrma money to have fun
He's saying something I'm not picking up...
Why would he be putting *_"GTA V"_* on his steering knuckles?
Lester no likey.
But really what is this lube he's mentioning?
GT85 :)
@@TomleyRC Thank you Sir! I guess that brings up the idea of a support products video - preferred fluids and greases? Paints maybe, brands of tools? Just a thought, but thank you for your reply :-)
