  • Drosera salina grows in one of the most remarkable habitat, occurring only on the shores of salt lakes in Western Australia. It’s niche is formed by groundwater seeping out of surrounding bush land into the depression of the lake basin during the rainy colder months. The substrate is a thin layer of crystalline quartz sand overlaying a denser layer of brown silt and fine sand. Very few plants are able to survive in this exceedingly harsh environment but the sundew grows in the thousands, forming a vivacious carpet of tiny red stems against the stark white backdrop of its salt lake environment.
