Drosera stipularis in the dunes of Cape York
Drosera stipularis grows in deep white sand in Cape York, Australia. The recently described petiolaris-complex sundew is unique in its resemblance to pygmy sundews, both in size and morphology. This is an example of convergent evolution towards the constantly shifting sands of their environments.

Giant clumps of Cephalotus Pitcher Plants in the wild
Просмотров 3183 месяца назад
Is this the biggest clump of Cephalotus ever recorded!? I found this magnificent population of Cephalotus follicularis (Albany pitcher plant) containing hundreds of pitchers in an open, post-burn site. This species typically grows on gentle slopes that drain into swampy basins, usually occurring where the water begins to seep out of the hillside. In this habitat, the plants commonly colonise th...
Drosera salina (salt lake sundew) in the wild
Просмотров 3528 месяцев назад
Drosera salina grows in one of the most remarkable habitat, occurring only on the shores of salt lakes in Western Australia. It’s niche is formed by groundwater seeping out of surrounding bush land into the depression of the lake basin during the rainy colder months. The substrate is a thin layer of crystalline quartz sand overlaying a denser layer of brown silt and fine sand. Very few plants a...
Drosera schizandra in the wild
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.Год назад
Drosera schizandra is a rare sundew endemic to the rainforests of Far North Queensland. The species grows on embankments and creek lines in the Bartle Frere and Bellenden Ker mountain range. These habitats have a comparatively sparse canopy from the steep slope and open creek so can receive some dappled filtered sunlight. At other times, the ground is plunged into deep shade.
Carnivorous Plants of the Grampians
Просмотров 9772 года назад
Nineteen species of carnivorous plants grow in the Grampians National Park in SE Australia. In November 2021, Boaz Ng set out on an expedition to document the sundews and bladderworts of the region. This video was made by Fierce Flora for World Carnivorous Plant Day in collaboration with the International Carnivorous Plant Society.

Drosera scorpioides gemmae timelapse
Просмотров 18 тыс.3 года назад
A 3 week time-lapse I shot of a Drosera scorpioides gemma. At the start of the growing season, pygmy sundews produce modified leaves called gemmae that each enclose a bud. After dispersal, the gemmae quickly sprout a tap root followed immediately by carnivorous leaves. These plantlets can mature into a flowering sized plant within a single season, increasing the chances of survival during the h...

I've wondered if the Queensland's _three sisters_ are archaic ancient sundew plants, or are carnivorous plants on their way of losing their carnivory.
