  • Is this the biggest clump of Cephalotus ever recorded!? I found this magnificent population of Cephalotus follicularis (Albany pitcher plant) containing hundreds of pitchers in an open, post-burn site. This species typically grows on gentle slopes that drain into swampy basins, usually occurring where the water begins to seep out of the hillside. In this habitat, the plants commonly colonise the small mounds of soil that accumulate at the base of tea trees, growing slightly above the water level. The plants don't mind the waterlogged conditions as the water is constantly flowing across the landscape and so remains fresh.
