    This is so frustrating! Our government is letting rich outsiders move to Hawaii and price us out! They need to stop letting these foreigners buy Hawaii and put locals first. Hawaii is losing its Aloha because locals are leaving or becoming homeless. Upsetting.

      Absolutely! Exactly! When I go anywhere in Hawaii I feel like the minority. I see plenty tourist and Rich people from Asia, Europe, the Continent/mainland. Even Pidgen Language has been dying out. Hawaiian Lang. Schools are gaining popularity though. All da Haole's stay in all our Valleys. 😢 A house built in the 50's same block as Public Housing goes for 1.5 million in Hawaii. I notice forieniers are purchasing Houses even in really bad areas. Wherever they can grab land they are. I hate to say this but Hawaii is not Hawaii anymore. Not much Hawaiians left just all these greedy transplants 🤑

      @@noninoni454 - I agree with you. So sad and many of these outsiders have no respect from the locals. They seem to throw in our face how Native Hawaiians "gave" Hawaii away to The United States Government, when the truth is that it was flat out stolen, yet they brag about it. Such a shame. I think in the end, they will get their karma, and the Native Hawaiians will somehow get their stolen land back.

    😅😢 Im a local person that was homeless for 3 yrs with kids here in Hawaii. I lived in many of the homeless programs. At the time Micronesian families were the priority of these programs. I am part Hawaiian. I was a sober person not an addict in college and working part time. I never got any housing assistance. And when I found my own place which was a studio for $700 IHS the program I was living in at the time refused to help me with Deposit and First Months rent saying its because I didnt make enough money which proves I could not sustain myself. I got help from my chucrch instead. I maintained paying rent in that same apartment for 10 yrs straight. When it comes down to it the funding that Homeless Programs get is often and commonly embezzled by the Staff. The people working at most sheltors are from the Mainland or Samoa and believe me the cold hearted corruption that happens is insane! Its similar to Prison corruption.

    A. Alcoholics.
    B. Drug users.
    C. Mental health state they are in.
    D. But lately, the BIGGEST reason is the astronomical high cost of housing!!

      Yes, kindness, compassion, and consideration of those less fortunate are more prevalent in states run by Democrats as opposed to the draconian policies of governors in Republican-controlled states. Caring about money more than people is a losing proposition. Republicans turn a blind eye and try to pawn off the problem to the churches. Unfortunately, many of today's churches seem to have forgotten the message to love your neighbor as you love yourself.

    Getting disabled homeless people off the street could be solved simply by making the asset & savings rules for SSI and SSDI the same. a big problem is the government has to dump the Caste sytem and set pay for SSDI & SSI for all disabled people at the same livable wage. How can a disabled person get off the street collecting SSI when I think SSI pays less than 1 thousand a month and the disabled person is not allowed to save more than 2 thousand dollars? The inequality disabled people face is so unfair through no fault of their own they became disabled. Should it matter if their parents had a good job? a rich disabled person or a disabled person who had one of their parents earn a decent wage will get to forever save all the money they want have all the assets they want and collect SSDI instead of SSI why are one set of disabled people treated better than other disabled people? Its because they were born into parents who had on-the-book jobs and their parents earned money. USA works on a Class system like Indian caste system where people are treated differently by the class they come from. Now disabled Americans from the higher class or caste are set for life when their parents retire or die because they can get a percent of their parents' pay and keep everything they inherit. The lower Caste in USA on SSI cannot keep it or they will lose their SSI pay and med coverage. The upper caste in the disabled in America get Medicare with SSDI the lower Caste get Medicaid. America has a long way to go in equal justice for all. Instead of so much far left worrying about LGBT and everything else everyone does nothing to help the disabled SSDI & SSI must become equal. all disabled Americans deserve to be treated the same under law. As of now we have 2 completely different laws for disabled people depending on what Caste they come from. The first step in homelessness should be equality for the disabled lets give all Disabled Americans enough to live in their own apt food and the right to save money and assets to make their life better . as of now the upper caste disabled already have these rights so let's make disability Equal set pay for SSDI and SSI the same The savings and assets rules and same medical coverage we need to stop treating disabled people different because what caste their parents came from

    Affordable housing has been promised for the 3+ decades I've lived in Hawaii. We're still waiting. We get mental health patients from all over, and people who want to live free in paradise by manipulating the medical and benefit systems. Loitering laws are not enforced. And the gov't only throws money aimlessly and moves the homeless from one place to another. Stopping benefits for non residents is one solution. Enforcing laws is another. Keeping illegal drugs illegal is another. I won't hold my breath on rent-housing costs coming down. There are entities like the River of Life Mission that have hubs island wide to help people get back on their feet to be functioning, contributing members of society. Leaving people who have value and potential rott in gutters, out of their minds, on drugs... (even by choice) is NOT compassion. It's enabling. No one should waste away like that. And no one should have the choice to take, destroy, and infringe on those who follow laws, and provide for themselves. It's a moral issue at the root. Something no one should ever depend on corrupt gov't to fix. The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness. Sadly, too many have woke to an existence that doesn't know what right is anymore. Genesis to Revelation is a place to start. This is on all of us folks.

    Chronic homelessness is different than being homeless. It means they are on the street because of drug addiction, or mental illness or a disability. Lots of cities in the US have far more people living on the street, Hawaii needs to get treatment for them and not hide them in vacation rentals, hence Josh Greens plan.

    • @carlgharis7948
      @carlgharis7948 7 месяцев назад

      Actually it's not specifically drug addiction. Chronic homeless is being homeless for 90 day consecutively so 3 months OR being homeless off and on for a period of time that exceeded 90 days in a period of longer then 180 days. And oftentimes yes drug are involved. However it's not exclusively drug issues in and of itself to be said oh you're chronically homeless. I guess the broadest term we can put is well this person hasn't had a stable place to live and this has been the case for over 6 months now ya they're chronically homeless

    Hmmm. I rent a room for $550/month with utils included. I have no debt. My only recurring monthly expenses are the phone bill, car insurance, and my storage locker rent (another $300). I can easily afford to put a full tank of gas in my daily driver each week, which is paid off. I also have two other vehicles that I can keep up with insurance on each. I never cook at home as I can afford to dine out every day. I take a trip off O'ahu maybe twice a year. I'm also able to stash another $2000/month toward retirement or unexpected expenses. These homeless people who I see all over the place made their bed, so let them sleep in it. I'm 51 and doing just fine. I made myself a good bed.

    Stop selling one way tickets to Hawaii. That’s the problem with other states sending their homeless to Hawaii. If you’re buying a one way plane ticket here, you need to provide the proper documentation like, military,work hire documents,college, or residency . This will stop a lot of people from coming to Hawaii without any reason.

    The HUD values are inaccurate. Hawaii does not have the highest rate. It’s been shown that Los Angeles miscounts, and does not account for most of their homeless, same as New York Chicago, Michigan, etc. for example, it was just recently shown in Los Angeles, that their system is broken for finding availability of rooms. they don’t know who is where and CA is not properly tracking incoming homeless from neighboring regions. .
