Airbnb is a plague. Many studies show their responsibilities renting prices apartment and housing skyrocket for residents. Here in Europe, it has became one of the main factor explaining that situation. All of this for a Instagram tourism that increases GHES emissions ! In this case, it's possible also that it will be an "opportunity" for speculative economy to build resorts...

This has nothing to do with capitalism. This all part of the great reset. The global elite against the common people. Prices are deliberately being driven up so you will own nothing and be happy. When you can’t own anything, you technically are a slave to those who do own things.

Don't forget the mobile phone network was down hours and power was cut hours before the fire. Tourists were based out but locals were stopped from evacuating. Fire-fighters who did try to put fires out also faced having no water. The water had been turned off. An emergency proclamation declared 2 days prior to the event, journalists were banned from the area and much, much more. I've been following this seemingly suspicious event since it was first reported. I live in a country very familiar with huge bush fires and there is no way the peope couldn't be warned. TV, radio, people on the ground. From day one I've thought, things just don't add up with this fire. DW you have fabulous reporters. Please for the sake of the Maui people, please get some investigative journalists digging deeper than what you have here. By the way, this is the most honest report from a news source that I've seen yet.

Especially because this was nefarious, a planned and deliberate violent act. No one should be homeless if this was not about the damn tourists and making money off of so many tourists that many Hawaiian could care less about. Many have jobs that do not have anything to do with tourism. And these many are fine in the jobs not in the tourism trade. Farming and exporting to the mainland is a step in the right direction. Year round farming is a blessing. Especially in these tragic and hurtful times.

That platform wouldn't exist. Same with Uber or Lyft - those companies claim their drivers are only part time - but the reality is the majority of drivers do this as their full time occupation. @@phillipbanes5484 Bet you wouldn't use this logic in Japan. Ok, so let's use Ethnic or Aboriginal. While every inhabited part of the world is the result of colonization, who was there first calls dibs on the aboriginal or native term. I can't go to Tunguska and say I am an ethnic Siberian unless I have the direct connection of an ancestor, otherwise it's just disrespectful and a sign of being poorly raised.

As tragic as this is it shouldn't surprise anyone. If your 60-year old home burns down in an expensive area like Maui (especially if it was paid off) then replacing it will be at the 2024 market value. No different then selling that same home and trying to relocate within the same area and wondering why your new house cost 10x as much.

I have heard that something similar has happened in Ukraine (here the tragedy is a war, not an accidental fire). Some of the prime land in whats left of Ukraine (after the former occupants have been either displaced or dead) has been sold to large international finance companies for future property development after the war ends.
