Spino will always be able to swim in my heart, even if it can't.
❤
That is the most wholesome thing about loving Spino I’ve ever read ❤️👍
It probably could...
Lord, that's is so manly said
It definitely could though.
Some info you guys will enjoy: The studio that said spino couldn't swim didn't use an accurate spino, they used a really thin spino when spinosaurus actually had a barrel-shaped body. And due to its tail obviously made to swim and its body proportions it is obvious to say bro could swim!
Nice, if they got that wrong then the whole is invalid
Yah, I've been trying to tell that information to people. If they actually look at the 3D model schematic, the Spino in the diagram literally has a tail thicker than its entire torso which isn't accurate because the neotype despite being only a sub-adult, already had a pretty large barrel shaped chest and body that's thankfully represented in the skeleton mount seen in the Chicago Field Museum.
No wonder it failed the "swim" and buoyancy test lmao
@@carnoraptor79lmao that's both funny and sad at the same time
@@haydennotenboom9103 Yah, it's funny that they did that because it unironically gave one of the funniest paleo-memes because of that diagram, but it's also sad that even paleontologists would go to the point of "altering" the anatomy just so they can "fortify" their own theory. Not to mention they neglected Spino's high bone density as well which only faultered the results even further. It's like giving a Crocodile bone density of a Lion and using that to lead your hypothesis and the worst part? Majority actually believe it lol
@@carnoraptor79 yea that's a stupid move to pull. Hope spoonboi will get his justice served
We still don't really know if Spinosaurus couldn't swim, but I think it's difficult that it couldn't swim, due to its great adaptations to amphibious life.
Even T-Rex is a powerful swimmer, according to Sir David Attenborough Prehistoric Planet
@@wikansaktianto9215but spino had every adaptation for a good swimmer. And I don't think trex was stated.
@@wikansaktianto9215 actually we have fossil evidence of it
@@thelonerex "Evidence of aquatic behavior in Tyrannosaurus rex" this is the name of the article that discusses this.
I do believe spinosaurus did swim, just only for transport at most though. It was probably a great enough swimmer to get through deep water with ease, but probably not strong enough to be an active, underwater predator.
Scientist: " spinosaurus couldn't swim because it was too dense! "
Hippos: allow us to introduce ourselves.
I always wonder why no thinks that spino could of grab onto the water floor with its giant arms
Hippos don’t swim, they’re so dense that they just plummet to the bottom of the water and wade instead. I can see spino wading though.

I could have sworn that we just made Spino more terrestrial again than fully aquatic. Such is the nature of the specimen, always changing, always at the mercy of paleontologists. We will never know, but we will definitely see infinitely more versions of the poor thing.
"At the mercy of the paleontologists" is such an amazingly accurate yet comical way to put that lmbo 10/10

@@alunaticwithashotgun9840 Ok then try and defeat a man by biting instead of punching. It's not as simple as saying biting is better than hands, the fact is the rex is so exceptionally good at biting that it literally has dynamite in its mouth.

A sad day for us Spino fans to be sure..
People say it couldn’t swim, people say it couldn’t walk. I bet a million bucks it could do both.
Personally, I think it was so well-adapted to semi-aquatic life that appropriate conditions could turn it into a line of marine giants like Cetaceans or Ichthyosaurs.

I dont think anyone understands the story the animation represents, its about how spino has been continuously downgraded and how is has lost popularity while the t.rex has gained popularity, going from a happy, long legged, powerful, popular dinosaur to a depressed, short legged, unable to swim dino who even lost his sail, until he has had enough and tries to kill “paper” (but fails) to stop his downgrading
When I realized the meaning of the animation I got super sad. I hope one day Spinosaurus's mystery can be solved and our beloved spiny boy can escape the memes.

Regardless rex destroys it in both land and water. Hell rex is probably a better aquatic predator than spino lol.
@@surgeonsergio6839 Why would a Tyrannosaurus need to be an aquatic predator?
@@DieHard815 A paper was published about t rex swim speed, and showed that the rex could outperform many smaller dinosaurs in shallow water, which would allow t rex to develop a strategy of hunting where it would chase smaller faster prey on land to water where the rex would be able to hunt them down. So based on what we know so far the rex seems to be more aquatic than spino which many experts like Sereno believe couldn't swim efficiently.
@@surgeonsergio6839 That doesn't prove anything, the only thing it proves is that Tyrannosaurus can swim. Also, it couldn't swim like how you're making it out to be, it'd be pretty damn slow, making chasing prey into water a bad strategy. Just because something can swim, doesn't mean they're aquatic now, doesn't it? Take a lion for example, they can swim, doesn't mean they're aquatic, though.
@@DieHard815 I literally said that t rex would be faster than a lot of smaller dinosaurs in water, everybody before this paper was published everyone knew t rex could swim but did not realize that it was that good at it. Whereas, many scientists doubt that spinosaurus could even dive. Hence me joking about the trex being more aquatic than spino the thing it supposedly should excel at.

Sadly, the world didn't agree...
Spino looks so cute and happy at the start of the video!
There is no doubt in my mind that Spinosaurus was a swimmer. Firstly the bone density for the Spinosaurus was that of a semi aquatic animal. Secondly lets look at its facial structure, taking a closer look at it's nostrils you will notice that they are on the top of the face much like modern aquatic animals of today such as crocodiles and marine mammals. Thirdly if you take into account that it's tail was flat like a paddle and its center of mass was right where it should be for a semi aquatic animal. Spinosaurus's feet were also thought to have been webbed like a duck.

Pretty damn sure spino can swim, its entire body is build to swim its snout is build to hunt fish, its tail even suggest it could swim with the structure.
Yeah, it definitely could swim. In fact, the study that gave us the famous ded spino (0:21) didn't say it couldn't swim, it just said that their modelling of _Spinosaurus_ couldn't.
They could've just slightly adjust the parameters of their modelling to get the clickbait title they wanted, or just make a crappy one without realising. Maybe they could've made the bones dense enough, or the lungs and aerial sacs to developed, etc... Many reconstruction of characteristics that other researchers, like Nizar Ibrahim for an obvious example, can and will disagree with, and maybe make a response study.
Heck, despite the title, it doesn't even concludes that it wasn't aquatic and couldn't swim, just that it may not be that good at diving or using its tail to swim.
On the other hand, its anatomy still clearly points towards semiaquaticity with its fish-eater mouth, short legs, nostrils to the back and flat and flexible tail, and even more convincing, its long bones were thick inside, a characteristic that is (except for a very few modern examples) only found in semiaquatic animals.
Funnily enough, in the same month when that paper was published, _Natovenator_ was described, and described as a semiaquatic raptor, and with no one disagreeing, and it has even less traits that points to that conclusion. _Spinosaurus_ semiaquaticity is only contested because it's famous. Any other animal with the same traits would be judged as semiaquatic without any debate.

Spinosaurus may not be my favorite theropod, but I still think it's one of the Coolest Things to exist. And its accuracy makes it even cooler.
Love the little jingle you put at the end. Nice reference!
Once upon a time, a dinosaur named Spinosaurus had been born. Spinosaurus found himself as the largest theropod in the prehistoric kingdom. He was seen as a perfect movie monster, but he didn’t care, he just wanted to enjoy his time by the pool after learning to swim and finding his friends, suchomimus and baryonyx. He even enjoyed reading speculative papers about how he’d be in the future, he approved of the elephant seal thing. But then the papers came, and spinosaurus wasn’t the biggest anymore. He had short legs, a dent was made in his beautiful sail, and he had to knuckle-walk everywhere- which hurt his hands! He wasn’t the only one changed. Tyrannosaurus had gotten feathers, more dinosaurs joined the crew, and once tyrannosaurus finally reached his peak form- featherless, the biggest, and living up to his name, spinosaurus had finally stopped knuckle-walking, but he looked like a tadpole. He didn’t want to be here anymore. Atleast he could still swim, right? Unfortunately, according to a shady organization who used a thin model instead of spinosaurus’s barrel-shaped body, he was deemed terrestrial. What would he do with himself now?
