  • This is the first of a new series I'm calling "The Anachro-Lab", an animated series depicting fights between species who normally were separated by millions of years. This pilot episode took two years to produce! The next episode is already underway and will hopefully take a bit less time to create.

    As someone who played with both character models I can say that smilodon plays smoother but utahraptor had a much higher skill ceiling

    • @henriklund4288
      @henriklund4288 5 месяцев назад +448

      I dont know about that, i see alot of new players playing the Utahraptor. the Smiledon does have the advantage for the for the higher bite damage and i feel takes more macro to use compared to the utahrapter, as your claw attacks arent that good for slash attacks.

      it's weird - i see both y'all's points. A *ton* of utahraptor noobies just played dead until you got on top of them, then they just spammed kick hoping to land crit - it's here I can see henrik's point. But awe-inspiring utahraptor gameplay comes from those players who just had an innate connection with their characters, and it's because of that their fighting styles are so much more dynamic and aggressive, ultimately giving utahraptor the edge over pure skill possibilities.

    Personally, I love your work for the fun, gamification of concepts in evolution and ecology, and analysis of the strategy behind different play styles… I mean adaptations.

    I adore the stylistic callback to THE MOST EXTREME. If you're taking suggestions, consider Quetzalcoatlus vs something tanky at the cusp of its theoretical carry limit, like arthropleura. Whatever anyone else has to say about the abandonment of the "Outside" ARG format, the low-res modeling, or whatever, I insist that the behavior and tactics in the encounter, and the evaluation in the voiceover, are deeply convincing and well-executed! The character of the animals' movements, the pulsating of the herbivore's olfactory tunnel thing, the pacing of the video, and the reasoned post-fight analysis are all spot-on and beautiful things to see... I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I look forward to seeing which of these prehistoric animals you pit against one another next. Additionally, just so you are aware for your next fight, Dakotaraptor was not contemporary with Utahraptor, but with Tyrannosaurus rex. Beyond this, there is evidence Smilodon could bite into bone; a Glyptotherium skull with puncture marks matching Smilodon canines shows the cat could kill armored prey if it was careful, but likewise, they also have been confirmed to have done this to their own kind in fights as skulls and other bones show.

      I will say, Having made both high and low poly models, It actually isn't really easier to manage because there is a _lot_ that goes into making low poly topology which deforms the way you want it to. You have to really localize things and have specific topology which deforms well. In high poly modeling, Topology is extremely important, But you also don't really need to individually worry about the effect of each individual polygon on your deformations. I would liken it to drawing vs pixel art. Neither one is really easier or harder than the other. They're just different skillsets which overlap in the fundamentals.

      @@weeveferrelaine6973 its better when he started it as a joke rather than actually trying to be more toward educational. because the format isn't really good for that.

    This is exactly the kind of low-poly work that I've been trying to learn and master for myself, and my god is it hard to get right. Please, not only would I love to see more of these, but please work with the same animator and modeller for future instalments. This work is so high quality.
    Edit: I will say, that due to possessing the avian respiratory system, most theropods, Utahraptor included, would likely have been capable of extreme feats of endurance, due to the constant flow of oxygenated blood, and slower buildup of lactic acid.
    Also, not to nitpick, but Dakotaraptor and Utahraptor didn't coexist, and the animals displayed were not Dakotaraptor.

      @@knockoutnorko7500 Not entirely sure, but given the short arms and very long legs my best guess is that they are some variety of Troodontid.
      Edit: Possibly Geminiraptor, which is known from the same formation.
