Soo What a great video. Didn't get to know the Soo until they merged with the milwaukee road. They showed up in Terre Haute , Indiana with the sd-60 all red with white reflective lettering. Scheme was really cool to see. They had a coal unit train . Several manifest, a local. No pig trains though. Conrail was 60% pig train, Auto trains were 35%, 5% manifest. Between Indy, and Saint Louis. Early 80's Sir. Fallen Flags Forever!
I enjoyed your SOO Line freight train video. It is always nice seeing trains operate on your amazing layout. The white SOO Line GP9s look really sharp. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. -Tom
WOO HOO!! Finally!! Fun fact, 3 digit road number is an actual Soo line loco, the 4 digit road number was technically owned by the Wisconsin Central. Which at the time was owned by the Soo. Another fact, the blue door on the box indicated that the box car was for potato service. Super nice weathering on the geeps!! Awesome job Mike!!
Another winner! Love the vintage "billboard" equipment, I makes me think how bland things are now, Just Tuscan brown and reporting marks! Keep the great videos coming.
NICE VIDEO!!! I really like the head on views. Particularly the close up. In those you can see the lateral and cross level deviations in the track as they are exaggerated by the engines. That said, those deviations are so extremely minute because of the excellent and precise attention to detail that you put into the track work, the trains don’t move much. But it is so realistic. I have always found that fascinating to watch in real life when we are stopped in the siding for a train meet and see the passing train go over the switch points and frog. They usually have some slight side to side movements, and up and down movements as they pass. Thank you for sharing
I'm with Todd. I've had a hard time with the concept of other roads of interest operating on my c&nw galena div. mainline. You've offered many options in that regard. Keep up the great work AND inspirations.
Another great video! Love how you are able to run just about any "road" on your layout and make it look great. You have an anywhere type of layout. Personally I would like to see another IC video. I am partial to that road as my grandfather was an agent/operator for them when I was growing up. He worked when they still handed up orders with the hoop. He always let me "hand up the orders" to the conductors on the caboose.
Is that Soo a Baldwin AS-616 Mike? That is very cool seeing an old Baldwin moving freight!! I still have an old Model Railroader article that Tony Koester did on that engine for the Nickel Plate!!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Mike!! I'm loving these videos!!
Great video! I especially like the slow pan sequences. Anyway, I'm an ATSF and CRI&P fan, but this video has given me a much greater appreciation for the Soo line. Thanks.
Great, as always. SOO was an interesting railroad, though my knowledge of it is kind of sketchy. Seems like any of their passenger trains I've seen in photos were powered by Geeps - and not sleek looking F7s. Seems they had quite a few F units. Kind of like the Grand Trunk passenger trains - always seemed to be pulled by GP7s/GP9s - and not cab units.
You have a cool collection of rolling stock. The reefer with the blue door and the big grain covered hopper are two Soo paint schemes that are new to me. And what was the load in the gondola up front?
Your tyrack work and ballast is very well done. The SOO in white (for loco) is a great paint scheme. Great layout and video. Well done
I very much appreciate your kind comments ...... thank you! Mike

Awesome. I’m a big fan of sticking with a single livery. You’ve got great examples of the SOO’s registry. Nice work.

The load in the gondola is coiled wire. Thank you for watching and commenting. Mike
Are those the new Walthers GP9's?
I acquired these GP9s about 3 weeks ago and it's possible that they may be new/recent models. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video. Mike
