American Idiot, Fela!, Memphis, Million Dollar Quartet, La Cage aux Folles, A Little Night Music, Everyday Rapture, Ragtime, Come Fly Away, Promises Promises
This was the first Tony awards I saw in Full (I mostly watched it because I was a full blown Gleek then, but watching Glee made me appreciate Broadway a little more) Too many RIPS to mention most recently Angela Lansbury and Racquel Welsh 52:00 Oops 59:55 unusual? you lost before Kristin 1:09:50 to skip the commercials there
Douglas Hodge is such a beautiful gem with a heart of gold. He brings such a great smile on my face every time he randomly shows up from radio dramas to musicals to shows and always had me going, "THAT WAS HIM, TOO?!" Hope he's doing well.
Thank you so very much for uploading the Tony award ceremonies. I just so happened to miss nearly each and every show year after year when they aired originally.
so this means that Viola Davis is one of many people who have won an oscar for the role they originated on broadway which they also won a tony for. I really wanted Denzel to win an oscar for this role
Just realized Shawn Hays is the man off of the Cat and The Hat Movie his main line was “FIRRRRRRReEeeEEEeED” Im just so shocked I don’t know he was in the music industry 😭
Denise Spurlock It wasn't nominated for Best Musical and they usually only have nominated shows perform even tho every now and then they have shows that weren't nominated perform to advertise them
The Addams Family didn't do so hot barely a year into the show i was lucky to see it and Young Frankenstein The Musical before thy closed within a year and a half.
Easily the worst year for musicals ever in my opinion. Besides Maybe Memphis I don't think any of the nominated shows lasted over a year on Broadway. Thank god Book of Mormon opened the following year. Also it's always bothered me that Scott Rudin looks like a skinny Harvey Weinstein.
I think we have to remember that Broadway was still rebounding from a rather devastating slump due to economy reasons (I'm sure they could have found a different solution rather than well known names winning the Tony Award)

I love how caught off guard the audience was of Green Day. Hahaha
This was the first Tony Awards I ever saw all the way through. Fun memories. :)

Amazing showcase everyone looks fabulous much love.
This program won 2 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Special Class Programs and Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special.

Viola did not originate the role. this was a revival. although she did amazing and deserved the awards.

and the fish
I love Sean Hayes and all he represents.
Hello, everyone thanks for having me.
"When you're and Addams" should have been performed by The Addams Family cast.
yeah well it wasn't nominated in the best musical category so....

Eddie Redmayne YAYYYYY😀😀😀😀😀
At 1:10:29 when u get interrupted multiple times and ur like "girl lemme speak"
"Oh crap. What am I doing?" pretty much summed up the whole evening, and Sean Hayes' performance as host.
tbh he got a mess of a year to deal with
35:51 WHY ARE YOU SO FUCKING CUTE JOHN OMG KILL ME
awwww, Nathan Lane presenting the award to Mr. Hodge. a little Birdcage humour.
because he was in the movie version of course
Not to mention that Bebe Neuwirth presented a Tony to fellow Velma Kelly, Catherine Zeta-Jones.
did Bebe do a run in Chicago?
Wow, a few ex-couples in the house. Scarlett and Ryan and Liev and Naomi. Almost forgot they were once together.
huge upset that scarlett won....very odd
why did addams family not get recognition that year!? Was much better than that green day shit
it only got one nomination and it wasn't for best musical
there was a revival of ragtime?! what?!
I’ve been waiting for a Ragtime revival for years only to find out it happened 10 years ago 💀
@@edisonthethird hey it can be revived AGAIN, Annie's been revived twice

Memphis lasted until the summer of 2012, and now it seems that Scott Rudin has become the Harvey Weinstein of Broadway
Yikes. What a terrible year for original musicals.
but Memphis was original
And terrible.
let me guess, you wanted American Idiot to win
iHeartRyanStiles that was such a terrible musical
why was memphis terrible really? no seriously I don't understand
Ms Zeta-Jones feigning shock at her win and her acceptance speech was just crass and so fake. I loved her in Chicago, but somewhere she lost her soul.
Green Day thumbs down
Lea Michele just isn't all that great singing
True
yes she is a great singer , this wasn't her best performance.
Pfft...
well I'm not sure this comment aged well since she's doing Funny Girl on Broadway as of this posting
Zeta Jones worst choice ever.
