Note: RUclips no longer demonetizes videos for having the word "pandemic." The information I looked up when making this was outdated and I now have clarification that RUclips doesn't do that anymore. I cut that word here because I wasn't sure if they still did it and I couldn't find any new information on that policy. I wanted to get the video out without worrying about it being demonetized. I said that word in my new Ball Pit video and it didn't get demonetized at all.

I actually worked at Discovery Kingdom during highschool, and I was assigned to the crew of this ride! The ride was broken more often than not, and when it was running it was hell. The noise was BONE CRUNCHINGLY loud leaving me with a headache every shift. On top of that, I never saw a guest get off the ride happy, so I only rode it once and yeah it was bad. A fun fact: during the fall and winter of 2018 there was a pretty heavy rain season and the ride vehicles rusted completely and shut down for months. ANOTHER fun fact is that the second of the two "cars" didn't work. The restraints were completely broken and once unlocked couldn't relock. The ride permanently ran at half capacity after opening day. It was the biggest mess in the park, and I got transferred to wonder woman lasso of truth not long after the rust-related closure.

Thanks for the fair review and history of the Harley Quinn Crazy Coaster. Although it's sad when a project doesn't go as planned, there were a lot of important lessons that we were able to take away from this ride and apply to our future attractions and products. Because of this experience, we've been able to overhaul and improve our design processes for future rides, including the design and engineering work we do for Great Coasters International. This has allowed for incredible things like Texas Stingray at SeaWorld San Antonio, Roaring Timbers at Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park, and the exciting weld-free Titan Track (which is actually a similar design to the track on Skywarp II and P'Sghetti Bowl), just to name a few. We're excited for the future of Skyline!

They did not attempt to circumvent safety measures or have problems that could raise some serious safety concerns. Or show other signs of weakness in their company via the coaster. Also the permanent versions don't suffer the shakiness and thus headbanging Harley apparently did. To me though the TIdal Twister one is more like a shwarzkophf Bayern Curve, so if they can make better versions of it along with the nicknamed "pringle coaster" clearly also meant for a younger crowd, I'd definitely hope to see one of there machines near me soon once the kinks are mostly out.

This video gave me deja vu from my childhood. When I was 10 years old in 1999, a theme park close to where I grew up called Dollywood debuted their very first full sized outdoor rollercoaster called the Tennessee Tornado. I remember being so excited that year when we finally went to Dollywood, as I was a coaster fanatic as a kid.
Standing in line having visions of how epic this was going to be, I waited 2 hours until it was finally my turn. This was a metal track coaster with a seat design that strapped you in exactly like the Harley Quinn coaster in your video, with over the shoulder restraints that locked down very tightly and securely.
Unfortunately, this coasters over the shoulder restraints were made out of what I can only describe as extremely hard rubber. If you pushed on it with your finger it would compress down a tiny bit but not much at all. And when I say it was hard, I mean it was solid and dense as it could be for a rubber type material.
That wouldn't have been an issue were it not for the fact that the Tennessee Tornado suffered from the same problem as Harley Quinn. Anytime the coaster picked up speed, went through loops, or anytime the G forces would go up the cars of the coaster would vibrate and shake. Violently. Very violently. And where the hard rubber restraints were literally a few inches away from your head on either side, every time the cars shook it would cause your head to literally BOUNCE like a ping pong ball rapidly between these hard restraints. Over, and over, and over again.
I'd say half the passengers, myself included, were in tears and had migraines if not mild concussions by the time the ride was over. It made my mother puke and hurt my head so bad we ended up leaving after we rode it. Every single passenger said the same thing, their heads bounced like a ping pong ball rapidly between the restraints the whole time and it was so painful they'd never ride it again.
I never did ride it again, and to this day it was the worst experience I've ever had on a coaster and I've been stuck on a few before but that by far was the worst.

Thanks for the video. Your research and writing gets better with every video and this is top notch. Also made me excited to what skyline could do next.
My only comment is if you could reconsider the amount of stock video footage. Sometimes it feels distracting. Thanks

I remember seeing this coaster when it was first announced in videos and other promotional material and I thought it looks pretty unique. But I never got to see it in person since that park wasn't my home park. But had no idea though about the issues it had, but hey I learned something new! Also thanks for reading my comment :D

I drive by Discovery Kingdom almost daily and I can honestly say that I rarely saw it running. Now I know why. Six Flags should look into the now vacant fairgrounds property directly across the street. They could build overpasses to get people from 1 side of the road to the other.

Apart from the technical issues, I think a big source of the ire these rides got was the fact that they weren't added to family entertainment centers, small amusement parks, or state fairs, where you'd pay $6 to ride it and be perfectly content with what it is. They were added to major theme parks like Six Flags and SeaWorld where you pay big money just to get in the gate, and where you expect to get big-budget rides in return. These parks advertised them as big new must-see E-ticket rides worth making the $100+ trip for, so guests were understandably disappointed by what they got instead.

Failures are a part of engineering and we never dwell on them, we review, rethink and then redesign. Coasters like Harley Quinn Crazy Coaster develop the industry as seen with Skyline Attractions. From and engineers point of view, that was a successful prototype.

It also failed because a bunch of people tried to film on that ride, which obviously made us wait longer... THEN when the ride stopped when the operator noticed the phone or camera, the ride started to be "delayed" because it was forced to stop it's duration. We waited for probably half an hour.
