I was the light guy for the outlaws in the early 90s. What a great time, bunch of great guys. We toured with Foghat, Badfinger, Toy Caldwell, Leslie West from mountain and Blue Cheer. Great time in my life.
Were you with them when they rolled through Richmond, VA in the early 90’s? We opened for them and I met Hughie by accident backstage. SUPER nice guy and he showed me how to play “Green Grass and High Tides” the right way. I was tuning my guitar up and was just messing around with the intro. This dude comes walking by and says “Hey nice Les Paul man, you know you’re playing that wrong…” I said: “Thanks man! Oh, do you know this song?” He grinned and said: “I wrote it” Could’ve knocked me over with a feather. What a nice man. We talked about how he had problems with the adjustment screws on the Fender saddles cause they dug into his hand when he was doing those muted double stop licks. Then he had to get going. Just a nice guy. I was a young punk with long hair and guys like him were inaccessible to me. I hope wherever he is he’s doing alright. RIP.

I saw these guys in a tiny club in my town in the mid 1980’s. We were teenagers with fake ID’s, and we decided to take a taxi into town to drink some beer. The taxi stopped at a local motel to pick up two more people. They were with The Outlaws, and heading to the gig. That’s how we learned that the Outlaws were playing at JB’s Rock III that night. So we stayed for the show… and THEY ROCKED SO HARD AND HEAVY, we couldn’t believe how good the show was, and how much we enjoyed it. I kind of agree with the Bible Thumpers, now that I’m one of them. But I can honestly say that I believe that the Outlaws had their knowledge of Jesus Christ and His saving grace. They were raised Southern Baptists. The thing about an Easter Sunday concert was, and they would probably agree that they would be better off in Church that night. I know that they were seeking to do right, for the most part. It was hard to get the pot out of their hands, except for Rick CUA, the bassist. He lives out his Christian faith to this day.
What a remarkable nugget this video is! So amazing to see video and audio of such high quality from over 40 years ago recorded with the technology of the day. But what really blows me away is the performance. I'm a huge fan of Henry Paul and appreciate so much what he does to keep the Outlaws legend thriving and the spirit of Southern Rock alive today. But seeing the Outlaws with this classic linup playing at their peak reminds me why I fell in love with this band in the happy days of my wasted youth. Huguie was always the heart and soul of the band to me. May his flame always burn on brightly in the songs he left us with. Thanks for posting this wonderful performance to remind me!

*One of the best live shows I EVER saw! (and I've seen a bunch in my 67 years)* It was 'around' this same time, 1978 - 1981 (without checking my saved ticket stub). I saw them in west Michigan at Grand Valley state college. The opening band was Jonathan Edwards ('Sunshine' 1971). A few songs into his set, Jonathan asked for people to be quiet so he could sing a song without his band or any acoustics. There was some rowdy guys in the back who kept screaming *"OUTLAWS!!"* every time people got quiet. After a couple tries? They kept it up so he simply walked off the stage and didn't return. It took a bit of time before the Outlaws were ready to come on stage, but when they did? Everyone forgot all about Jonathan Edwards and any entertainment they might have missed because of these loud guys in the back. As I recall they played for the better part of an hour (maybe more).
Saw them in Eugene, Ore in the mid seventies along with Marshall Tucker. "Green Grass and High Tides" one of the great rock songs. It still resonates with me today.
Seen the Outlaws in 87 or 88? at Busch Gardens in Tampa Fl. Great show, they played like there was 50,000 people there, Hughie lived about an hour North of me, RIP Hughie
In all my banding days, I've never had more respect for any other band, than The Outlaws. Whilst we were supporting Smokie, Showaddywaddy, Liverpool Express (look them up) and fulfilling our own gigs, in any rest period I found, I turned on with The Outlaws, their combined talent simply blew me away. The fact that this 'live' concert exists... Makes me a very happy man!
I'm 67, and for about 50 of em, Huey Tommason (sp, I tried.), was, and is my guitar hero. Met him once, miss him still. Hope he's jammin with Stevie, and Jimi, and Duane, etc.

Freddie on Long Gone is really good. All I can say is that one of the best live songs of all time on record is Green Grass from Bring It Back alive. 20+ minutes of pure electricity. The locking and mixing is awesome. 40+ years later. I just took out the record, cleaned it and fired up the turn table. Nothing better then a live LP.
great upload thanks. So nice to see Hughie and Billy going back and forth. They really were the best at this with all due respect to others. I followed them on their first UK tour back in the late 70s I think (am I allowed to say that?) and saw a number of their gigs. I don't think the audience was quite ready for their full out assault. They visited a couple of times after from memory and I caught them whenever I could. Last time was in some dumpy bar in Miami, by mistake. Could not believe my luck. The guy I was with was trying to pick up chicks and I was simply watching Hughie strut his stuff. No Billy by that time. What a wonderful band. RIP Billy and Hughie. You guys were the best. I saw them Jan 26 1981, San Diego Sports Arena. 38 Special opened for them. Saw most of the Southern rock bands back then and I thought the Florida Guitar Army was the best of them all
I saw these guys at the Iron Horse in Ormond Beach about 4 yrs ago, 2hrs late getting to the stage, freezing cold 40 degrees and when they finally got going there was only one or 2 of the originals, When they started it was immediate that it was worth the wait, I tried to see these guys in the 70`s and couldn`t make it work but they sounded like the original record it was unbelieveble. A guy named Ken Anderson did most of the guitar parts and he was fantastic the whole performance was. If they come back I`ll be there for sure. Always one of my favorite bands next to Allman Bros.

Saw them in 1981 in Hollywood Florida at the Sportatorium. It was , "The Outlaws", "Molly Hatchet", "38 Special", and "The Johnny Van Zant Band". Man what a show!!!! It was awesome!!!!!
Dude! A Southern Rock orgasm!
One show was Outlaws, Hatchet and 38. Almost exactly a year later it was Outlaws, Hatchet and JVZ. I was at both. The one with 38 was my first concert.
Saw The Outlaws open for Black Sabbath in Denver in 1982. Mind blowing show, both bands killed it and to this day, the loudest show I've ever seen.
Me too. My very first concert way back when I was a teenager. Not in Denver, but in Houston. I've still got my Mob Rules concert program. Good times.🤘
Same. I saw them in Phoenix. It was scheduled for Easter Sunday but the bible thumpers were in an uproar and got it postponed.
@@mechanic6682 Ah yes, the "Satanic Panic". I was a Catholic school boy. All that nonsense just made us want to listen to and explore the genres of metal and heavy rock even more. 🤘
The Outlaws were the first group whoever made me plug up my fingers in my ears. But they sounded great.
Man the "Outlaws" Lay Down That Southern Fried Rock an Roll Boogie with the Best of Em.... Legendary Band.... Right Up There with "Lynyrd Skynyrd" "Molly Hatchet" and the "Allman Brothers"....🤘😎🤘
One of my favorite albums of all time 'Bring em Back Alive ' the Outlaws . 👍
That is a great live album hands down Green Grass takes all of side four!
Yep I pretty much wore out the vinyl so of course bought the CD.
In my book the best album ever !❤
Oh yes as a collector of live albums this is my favorite one! "There Goes Another Love Song" just crackles! Live is the best!
I'm currently listening to this very cd tonight, Live at Rockpalast 1981, The Outlaws. 🤠
Great band, still have their albums, also gravitated to Henry Pauls solo albums, his music was outstanding to.
Miss the days of the 70' and 80's. There will never a time like this ever again.
Saw him in Davenport Ia, damn good band too!
HP is awesome too!
*One of the best live shows I EVER saw! (and I've seen a bunch in my 67 years)*
It was 'around' this same time, 1978 - 1981 (without checking my saved ticket stub).
It’s my therapy!
Three guitars are better than one. Thank you folks.
I saw them in the late 70's .. Always a good show.
For me, Hughie defined the sound of the band. Vocals and guitar.
Agree but loved Billy rocking the Les Pauls too.
Yup not the same!
I'm 67, and for about 50 of em, Huey Tommason (sp, I tried.), was, and is my guitar hero. Met him once, miss him still. Hope he's jammin with Stevie, and Jimi, and Duane, etc.
N Billy !
I have this on dvd, grew up with The Outlaws.
Yes Outlaws,
Thank you V much for blowing out the speakers on my phone,But loved every minute of it, Some of you are gone now,😢RIP you guys are the best, Thanks
Ive just found The Outlaws and then watched this. How, after loving rock music (in England) since the early 80s have i never found them. Especially as I really like Blackfoot, bits of Skynryd and Molly Hatchet. This show looks awesome!
FINALLY, the show can be seen in great quality. Been waiting for this a long time. Now if only the 38 Special show at Lorelei can also be uploaded in great quality like this, it would be really special. They gave a powerful performance. Southern rock fans deserve it!!
My first concert 1977 outlaws opened for bad company miami-hollwood sportatorium
OHH yeah! I was only 16yo 1981...Seen The Outlaws at Lakeland Civic Center Florida 1985!
Saw them in 1978 capital theater in passaic, Molly hatchet opened for them!!! Killer show.
Die guten alten Zeiten auf der Loreley, super Konzerte, viele schöne Erinnerungen. Danke fürs zeigen 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I became a fan of the Outlaws with their debut album in 1975. The first time I saw them live was in 1977 at Saint John's University in Queens. GGHT blew me away. I've seen them several times since then and HT is one of my favorite guitarists. 2:44
Do you happen to remember the date of the show?
@@heidiweber6600 Yep. I still have the ticket stub. It was February 19th 1977.
@@stancampbell9232 awesome. I have been documenting outlaws tour history from the early days for years. It’s a labor of love, but it has also been quite a difficult task because things weren’t documented that well back in the 70s.! Thanks for getting back to me. Scott
I never knew that Billy Jones sang lead on Holiday!
Thanks for posting 🙏
I remember when they played Saratoga New York on Father's Day June 1981, and it was broadcast nationwide on the radio.
Missed out seeing them live, this definitely makes up for it…whew, rock on guys! Love southern fried boogie rocker men, wish I’d seen them in their heyday, though. I enjoy Green Grass & High Tides and There Goes Another Love Song…killer tunes.🥰
~Kitty
I saw that hem three times. Once back in the 70's with Skynyrd. Once with Sammy Hagar, J. Geils Band and REO Speedwagon. Later in the 90's with Marshall Tucker and Fabulous Thenderbirds.
Seen original outlaws 1976 california pa college auditorium up close and they smoked and so did the audience good times
lol , high it is !
It,s only fitting that a precision band as the " The Outlaws " play in Germany one of the most intense country,s for perfection ! Thanks for posting it !
Thanks for posting, huge Outlaw fan here. Saw them over a dozen times and still support Henry.💗
Henry Paul is a very smart dude
Henry is an Outlaw, plain and simple. He has a great personality and a great singing voice. Also, a very level headed man.
Billy Jones R.I.P. 🙏
Same with Hughie... Saw him play a few weeks before he passed!!
He musta been going thru some major mental stress to end it the way he did.
@@hannibalheyes339 I think his alcoholism played a significant part, rooted in depression I'm sure.
I still have a 1981 Tobaco sunburst Gibson standard just like it!
🤘🏻 EXACTLY why our generation plays either Gibson or Fender. Because our heroes did.
Wow what a great band. Every time they would play in the DC - Baltimore area me and my wife of 40 years were there. Never missed a show. They recently played at a small venue in Crowsville, MD. But I was in the hospital and missed them. I think George Thuragood (check my spelling) was there as well. Green grass and high times forever. I hope they come to town one more time. If so we will be there.
the great late FLORIDA GUITAR ARMY, been a fan since late 70's. Saw them in a small club in Killeen TX 1984. Glad to see a decent version of this here. Thanks for sharing!
God they were on fire back then! They played like their lives depended on it. They jammed like Lynyrd Skynyrd!! Guitar Jamming!!
Thanks!!
Glad someone finally uploaded a version with Devils Road
HELL YEAH F ING KICKING ARSE
Absolutely phenomenal. Enough said. 👍👍
Real rock ❤
The Southern Guitar Army. OMG!
Actually they were known as "Florida's Guitar Army"
Brings back memories for sure. I saw a lot of concerts back in the day. Wish I’d of seen these guys over others who sucked in concert.
Billy Jones had quite an interesting picking technique. Hughey is one of my all time favorite guitar hero's. Saw him play quite few times. RIP old friends. Not to far behind. See ya on that big stage in the sky.
GREAT band! Man, what a tight set. Seems like the Germans really loved them.👍
Great show, thanks for sharing this amazing video. These guys were one of the very best bands ever, and they all had names that would look perfectly appropriate on “Wanted” posters.
HELL YEAH ! Merry Christmas People
Thanks so much for sharing this with us all. 🌌🌅🌠🕊👌🏻
Awesome band. My uncle and brother were roadie's on the American leg of this tour. Freddie Salem is from my home town.
Rick Cua from Syracuse N.Y. Bass player you're the man
great upload thanks. Thanks again.
I went to high school with these guys, Dave dicks, monty yoho, hueey , Billy, monty and I had married our wife's together in north Carolina. I'm 71 now .
😊 Saw them open for Skynyrd in 2018 in Houston Tx . AWESOME show. Wish Hughie was still around 😢
Awesome FellasLotsa fret metal shavings left on that thar stage👍🤠🌵☠️🏜🔥🎸🎸🎸🍺🍺🍺
Billy takin' the lead on "Holiday" ....R.I.P. 🇺🇸👍
Doesn't he sound like Hughie?
Nice!! Great band. Loud, raw, real.
Когда живьём со сцены прёт, это круто!🎉
Loved this lineup!
Thank you so much for this video...was a outlaws fan in the 1980s
Miss Hugh. Saw them many times always great the Chanel club Boston was a great show especially
Saw em several times at the Whipping Post on Nebraska Ave in north Tampa. $5 cover charge… they say to never look back, but those were good times
Do you remember any dates that you saw them there?
Great Band , always!
First saw them live in
'76 on the 4th of July at the Liberty Bowl...
Blue Oyster Cult -
The Outlaws
Lynyrd fn Skynryd &
Z.Z. Top
Hell of a Lineup
Henry Paul and Monte Yoho. He brought some of his boys from the HP Band. Huey and Billy were gone. but Billy Crain was a great picker.
Wow !! Been wanting to see this concert put together in this format for a long time . I have owned my Double album copy of “ Bring’Em Back Alive “ for decades and have been a fan since the 70’s . There’s never been a better time in history for bands like the Outlaws , to get out on the road & introduce the world to this kind of music . Thanks for posting this one 👍
Lived in Bakersfield,Cal. Went down to LA a few times in the late 70s and early 80s to a out door ampa theater, i think it was in Anaheim, don't remember. Shrooms 🍄 acid was the thing back then. It always brings back good memories when I listen to there music. To me they are immortal in my heart and mind alone with Marshall Tucker and DRV.
Saw these guys open for Skynyrd in ‘75…mind still blown!
I think the Outlaws were better than Skynyrd, but it was never a competition. But I can relate that your mind is still blown.
@@DougWilliams-mk5ir them’s ALMOST fightin’ words brother!! Lol
@@DougWilliams-mk5irstop.
I saw them in Chattanooga in 1978 with Wet Willie, it was a great show.
Wow. Killer set!
Saw them with Molly Hatchet great night…☑️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Listening to the Outlaws right now on 99.5 FM ! They were great!
Amazing band live!
1981...to be 21 again!
Absolutely fantastic.
Huzzah!!! The Guitar Heroes have arrived ans we are all saved!
The late, great Les Paul \has spoken.
Saw these guys open for Sabbath around this time. Great bass player and drummer!
Outlaws é um verdadeiro ícone do rock sulista 🎸🎸🎸😎
'79 saw these guys at the Marin civic center! Outlaws and molly hatchet! What an incredible show it was!
I saw the original line-up around '76. In B'ham AL. They opened for Bad Company. I actually went to see The Outlaws. They were so good even if they just played, maybe, shy of an hour. All killer and no filler. Those harmonies and trade-outs on lead guitar were the best.
Saw them at SUNY Stonybrook perhaps 76 two dollars, they were an opening act and I had no idea who they were. Really don’t remember much. Many many great college concerts which is why I became a Chef instead a physicist .
wow posted back 8 months ago on Freddie. now its RIP Freddie. I can't believe all of these guys are now gone. GGHT on Bring it back Alive with Freddie locking is one of the best live recordings ever captured.
Lots of Stars and Bars
Yep the more I listen this track does them no justice. Much better on there albums or live.
Hay momentos, en que esa pared sonora, de las guitarras es especialmente mágica.
I completely agree .
You have great taste in music !!!🍻
