Blade Running Through Jamuary with the Moog One, Waldorf Iridium Keyboard, and Minimoog Model D

  • Thought it was time for a jam! There is quite a bit going on here:
    -- Bass --
    The Model D is running into the DI of one of my Neve Shelford channels. I'm then using the Thru out to send the dry signal through several Chase Bliss Audio pedals (flanger, phaser, chorus, distortion, BBD delay, another BBD delay, and finally reverb) before going into the DI of my other Shelford Channel and into Ableton via my interface.
    -- Stringish things and keys --
    This is a combination of a patch on the Moog One - which is using the onboard Eventide Blackhole - and a patch on the Iridium. I'm using MIDI from the Iridium to trigger the patch on the One, so that the two play in sync.

    Perfect Circuit reached out to me, and I was exceedingly flattered, humbled, and surprised. I have been a fan for a long time and have purchased gear from them many times in the past. I think they are just great, and I even happened to FINALLY get to stop by their shop when I was in LA for a wedding this past summer, which was SOOOO FUN. I thought about the offer for a few months, and finally decided to do it, because it will help direct people to a store I love, and it will help me to buy things like a better camera, lights, etc. that I am discovering are quite necessary to produce really good content. My gear probably won't change that much - that's not really my style, if you haven't noticed - and I don't really see myself trying to get into the review game or make a living off of this stuff. So, I highly doubt you'll see me making videos "reviewing" the latest music doodad. But yeah, this got long... I'm at peace with that. So, basically, if you are planning to buy some gear, this is a cool way to keep a dope synth shop going and maybe get me a better camera along the way. If you are against affiliate link stuff, but you still plan to buy some gear, please do it from one of my other favorite stores; I won't be offended and still think you are awesome :D

      Yeah, the bass out of the mini is so nice. I also recorded it both dry and wet, high passed the wet, and high-passed the dry at the frequency of they low C. I also high-passed the other synths. I did some mid/side processing to keep the whole mix mono below 250 Hz before running it through my Shelfords and added a low-shelf boost at around 200 Hz.
      All that being said, the mix is only as good as the source, and the mini sounds incredible :)

    I know is too early to comment, but what terrain are you covering with the Model-D vs One?

    • @dimund
      @dimund  Год назад +4

      Not at all!!!
      The Model D has definitely taken over leads and bass unless it is something more modern - like a sync lead - or if I want a bass with a lot of resonance; for the latter, the Moog One is perfect, because I can use the SVF on its own, mix it in parallel with the ladder filter to make up the bass, or use another synth layer entirely.
      I also have a pretty extensive pedalboard, so the Model D lends itself really well to this and sounds amazing. This video uses the Model D running through the DI of one of my Shelford Channels, then I’m using the thru output on the DI to route the signal to the pedalboard and from there into the DI of my second Shelford. This lets me get the dry and wet signals with some processing during recording. It sounds amazing, imo!
      I’m really excited about this video; it was an impromptu improv thing that ended up giving me chills, so I had to share! Always happy to answer questions :)

  • @sonnotas1812

    That's 100% dedication, you should look at the E touche` pedal for some extra modulation capabilities, it can be a pain to program but you will be able to do what you cannot do with simple surface controls.

    Hey @Dimund, do you use your Shelford Channel when tracking your synths? If so, how do you go about recording stereo synths like the Moog One? A video that shows what a channel strip can add to synth recording would be really cool to see.

    • @dimund
      @dimund  Год назад +2

      I do! I use the DI for the Model D, but for everything else, I run the synths into my interface first and then into the Shelfords via the line in as an external audio effect in ableton. I really need to get a patch bay set up, so I can maintain an analog signal path for longer, but the audio difference of going in at a high sample rate and going out into the Shelfords and back in is negligible. I’d like to do it jus for posterity though hah :)
      I will definitely make a video about the Shelfords. They are amazing. It makes me want a 5088 or like several more Shelford channels heh.

    Is the Moog One being used as a drone or something?

    • @dimund
      @dimund  Год назад +1

      It’s audio is actually being routed through the Iridium and triggered via midi from the iridium keyboard. So the pad you are hearing is from the One, and then the delayed keys sound that is layers over the top is another layer from the iridium, if that makes sense!

      Ooooph that hit me hard! I’m watching rebels right now, but like the Ashoka storyline made the fall of Anakin just so much sadder. I really love that they made that series!! When I rewatched the prequels, it just made everything feel so much bigger - the war, anakin and obiwan’s relationship, etc.
