Agree... European cars will always be superior to Chinese or Indian cars. Just remember how great is Volvo or Jaguar!!!

They named the baby Range Rover to Game over.
love the can-do no rules attitude of the regulators in china when it comes to these manufacturers. encourages innovation.
Hah, yes, in terms of road safety regulations, Australia is unreasonably strict while China is unreasonably free. In Australia if you ride a bike without helmet you get a fine of AUD400. In China, it's just your own business. You can see so many e-scooters, even e-luggage running in China while none in Australia.
3:44 I want a mini MINI Clubman 😍
Call it the "MINI-mini" clubman
NEV's should be what 80% of us drive to get groceries or go to work and school. Full-sized cars should be for the odd road trip out of town...
It's completely maddening as an American that we wouldn't adopt these small cars even to literally save our own lives at the level of traffic fatalities or livable cities or climate change abatement.
what about those of us who have lives???, towing caravans, horse floats, boats, or would you have us all communist like you??
@@funkijote Car Manufacturers stand to make too much money off of selling us gigantic multi-ton SUVs and Trucks, whilst lobbying the Government to add more lanes of traffic to induce demand instead of making things even slightly livable for pedestrians.

Those cars are not actually road legal, but no policeman is going to give an elderly a ticket.
They are road legal in China. Where they are made....

A whole official industry existing under the sunlights without being legal... Sure. 🤡
they are not road legal by chinese laws. but the specific traffic codes are only enforced in bigger chinese cities. in smaller cities and rural china, police dont bother to give tickets to these street illegal cars...
it's like making a mobile game before making a triple A game
This is so cool!

Yeah, ""clean"" EVs. What a joke :DD.
These vehicles were banned across Beijing as of 12-31-2023, midnight. The public campaign said for safety reasons.
Meanwhile, there's little to no enforcement of safety rules for electric motorbikes, which zip along sidewalks, knocking down people, especially elderly, with impunity. Despite there being cameras every 50m. It's all part of the "no joy for elderly" policy.😢
Their time is coming to an end in Shandong too - so they need to up their game and become legal or that's the end of this amazing industry...
@@electricelliotrichardsXi needs to invade Tiawan first or risk being disposed in an anti corruption campaign.
The safety of cars is often down to the road infrastructure. If you can reduce points of conflict, and keep speeds low in cities, then you don’t have to worry much about stuffing your car full of massive crumple zones, and the like.
True but we still share the roads with delivery vehicles of all sizes. Distractions, medical emergencies and incompetence just to name a few that can still leave you injured, disabled or dead.
These cars are not allowed on highways and large roads. People buy them for use in rural areas.
I have no problem with those cars. I'm European & not a spring chicken anymore. When you see what we used to drive 40 or 50 years ago... The best safety features are: A focused driver with knowledge & muscle memory for edge cases + correct maintenance (tires, brakes & lights).
People are ok with motorbikes at 130 kms on the highway (which to me is suicidal behavior). Bring on the washing machines on wheels that cost 2 🍏 📱!
$600, Replacements for bicycles. Very nice.
It's for the elderly. it's a replacement for a mobility scooter that is fully enclosed and has air conditioning.
@@dgurevich1Is a car for people without car driver licence. This type of micro car exist in France. This type of micro car is named "Voiture Sans Permis" ("Car Without Driver Licence"). However you need a driver licence to drive this vehicule but is not the same driver licence to drive a real car.
Looking forward to the next installment.

$800? Even E-bikes are not that cheap!
Looks like "a real car show" look at that RANGE ROVER SPORT? Imitating big cars seems to be the new trend 😂😂
Good for Africa countries like Kenya 🇰🇪 that are developing 😂😂❤
I would happily spend 600$ on one of these, wish import costs weren’t so high though
There are some awesome little micro cars in China and still (despite the HUGE shift in technology and endless investment) some utter crap. I'll never forget inspecting a little trike van at the Canton Fair and as I shut the door the windscreen popped out held in by a messy line of silicone. The sales guy didn't even flinch saying 'Show car NO problem!' then asked for my business card. It was utter comedy!
What I really don’t like about Chinese EV companies is that they bring their cars to Europe and charge us almost double price, even though shipping cost is super low for them. It’s great that your videos at least point out that situation as a side product. Those companies really do us dirty.
we have locally produced version of these here in Tunisia and believe it or not we export them even to Germany for last mile delivery like milk floats in England.
Looks like a lot of fun 😅
"It's a shame they're not safer"? .... They're 100x safer than any 2-wheeler in the West.😊

What a good follow up from your Liuzhou trip. Safety is an issue but in busy cities where the medium speed is 30km/h it can work well, especially in 3rd world countries.
And I think this vehicle maximum speed is also 30 km/h 😂😂😂

I would love to buy one of these and just have fun because they're so tiny and little, perfect for city driving😃😇
Elliot, can you give some explanations about the abilities of these machines? Micromobility will be considered in much different light. If they travel at 15 or 25 miles per hour, and cover much smaller distances, they don't necessarily reqire the same safety equipment. I'm more concerned about how we could create more reliance on interchange parts and ease of long term repairability. China may currently be setting itself up for massive car industry collapse with overcapacity and an inability to sustain so many brands/models. I'm hopeful that just as we've seen some aging people and people with disabilities in the Netherlands use microcars at slow speed on cycle paths, that electric microcars could prove to be a far more sustainable alternative to full sized cars that are mostly shuttling an average of only 1.2 people each trip
In the next episode we drive these so cover some of those points. I think the problem is they are unregulated so there’s no standards for batteries or safety - I think they are a good solution overall but need a little more work to make them up to standard.
Been to Latin America lately? They're exporting these en masse. There is solid demand for dirt cheap, low speed, license-free (dangerous, but that's how people down there fare) 4-wheel mobility in the third world, the US and Europe be damned.
@@electricelliotrichardsIn the US, back in the early 90s, a Republican Senator from Utah struck a sort of devil's bargain on behalf of the "dietary supplement" industry.
The law was changed to allow them to be sold, within certain limitations of marketing. They could not legally claim to cure any illness. But they also were not subject to any testing or verification of ingredients.
Now, pharmacy shelves are filled with bottles of powdered peas and carrots, but labelled as everything under the sun.
The best that can be said of the system is, thank goodness peas and carrots are cheap. Otherwise they might as easily have been filled with lead or arsenic.

This is a very good point and I agree - but I think for the industry to mature, safety should become more of a priority than it is now.

I watched a video of these "old man" cars being seized in a Chinese city because the authorities decided to make em obsolete overnight. Id love a little car like this to just get around the city, the Japanese used to make these "homage" type cars back in the day.

Everything so expensive in America because of the stress on safety. Cars are designed to crash at 40 miles an hour, but in cities, you don’t go that fast in China so they can make stuff smaller like this.

Chinese manufucturers need to outsource design work
So how many of these types of vehicles are sold in China every year, Elliot? Such a shame that they don't meet the right standards as there could be a very lucrative international market, even in Western cities, if enthusiasm for micro cars in Europe and the UK is anything to go by. Did you enjoy your time in London at the latest Everything Electric Show?
Yes the show was wonderful! They definitely sell hundreds of thousands of these each year but I agree there could be a big market for these
@@electricelliotrichardsThat's great. Urban centres worldwide could certainly do with a lot more of these types of vehicles rather than the ridiculous tanks we (often but not always) seem to favour. Should the Chinese manufacturers ever figure out the energy density equation for vehicles of this size (& they probably will before the rest of the world), marry it with the relevant safety requirements for outside of Chinese markets, then an awful lot of manufacturers, probably including Tesla, could be in a world of do-do 💩.
Cheap to buy, cheap to run, & in very basic terms, does what it says on the tin, what's not to like if it meets your daily round-trip needs?
For a wee bit of context, I'm not so fussed about looks - I have routinely availed the use of my shopping trolley for 3+ decades, including, schlepping for miles off to car boot sales. I like to say: Have wheels, will travel! 😂😂 It's absolutely amazing the weight & size of the loads you can transport with one of those things, especially if you have a bit of rope to lash stuff to the frame - I've often gone home strutting my Steptoe & Sons look!!! 😂😂😂
I need one of those shit box, driving very tiny car can be very pleasant if your daily car is BIG
these are so sick. i want one of each
Really should just consider a Fiat at this point....
Jokes aside, this is how urban vehicles should look like, not those god awful street tanks we have everywhere
They-the Chinese Government- need to implement new classifications and legal terms for this type of vehicles in a way that it doesn't "obstruct" the proper "legal" road vehicles, in their own domestic use/markets.
the Chinese government should think "inside" for this type of vehicles instead keep pushing their EV to the cynical and politically biased overseas markets.
They-the Chinese Government- should not underestimated this type of Industries since this exact type of Industries is the one that push their Industrial Revolutions to what now have become.
as simple as lowering the Licensing Fee for these type of vehicles to even more reasonable amount and putting strict regulatory standard on safety will naturally push the Industry to become more competitive in the long run.
Bro these mfs needs to be stopped 😂 wtf are these cars?
The day 1000 dollar low speed chinese EV cars hit the american market, the car market is fucked.
