I divide problems into 3 groups.
    1. I can fix it now.
    2. There is a fix, but not right now.
    3. I can't do anything about it.
For group 1, I fix it right now, so no need to worry.
For group 2, I let it go until the fix is possible, then I fix it, so no need to worry in the interim.
For group 3, if it's a problem beyond my control, there's no point in making myself sick with worry over something that is completely out of my hands. It is what it is. Life is like that, sometimes.

To be in touch with your emotions, is welcoming them as they are, not trying to fix them or saying there are good or bad. So you're not attached or trying to avoid them. I'm reading Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender, by David R. Hawkins, it's really a good book. I also do meditation everyday to help me slow my mind and relax my body.

I just want to take a moment to thank you. I have been having anxiety and panic attacks over the last several years. It was a new feeling because I have always been mentally and emotionally very strong. I did not even realize what I was experiencing was due to emotional trauma. I have always plowed through even the most difficult of circumstances and that’s why this new feeling that made me so uncomfortable was frightening. The harder I got on my self to try to make myself get through it the more the anxiety increased. You have been so instrumental throughout the years to help me manage my anxiety to make room for it and to understand my emotional well-being. I was so comforted to know that Olympic gold medalists NFL players etc. have suffered with their trauma and emotional physical responses. To know that these professional athletes who are obviously mentally strong, emotionally strong and disciplined have had to learn how to cope with these feelings made me understand that it was not a weakness on my part. Anyhow realizing what is happening in your own body and then figuring out how to change it is no easy task. That’s where you came in and I appreciate you so much because I have honestly reaped the benefits! There are no words to express the gratitude that one feels by being able to eliminate or greatly reduce and manage anxiety.

At first that’s what I thought, that it was… menopause. Recall that I said I’m strong and plow through things? People have often said things like, “ a train can knock you down and you get right up”. That’s the part that eventually caught up to me. Decades of pressures and stresses that I didn’t deal with properly. I was all mind. My emotions were my greatest WEAKNESS. On my journey with the anxiety/panic attacks, I now realize I must change. It’s a great change…. I’ve been forced to recognize and learn emotional regulation and rebuilding myself. It’s interesting 🤔 something that was confusing, frightening and robbed me from peace and joy has become the catalyst of a new improved me 😃. Its s journey and as you know…we benefit greatly from each other and from the resources online. Like this channel! #1 worked for me (putting time aside to address those worries) but not until I switched my mindset to being gratful (or least pretending to be at first) towards my brain for coming up with those worries, no matter how silly they were ... some sort of "ok yes I get it, doesn't sound great, doesn't look very likely to happen either, but if it did here's how we should probably react, good? ok, thanks, see you next time"

I'm not sure I've commented on your videos before, but I've enjoyed them for quite some time. I've found them very helpful as well as the fact that I'm just really amused we have the same name, general age/stage of life, and religion.
I was recently diagnosed with POTS (Postural orthostatic takicardia syndrome) and since getting treatment not only has the dizziness gone way down but for the first time in literally years I'm no longer in fight or flight. I was telling my husband this evening that it's weird. I feel such relief and excitement that I can finally be productive, but there's also this numbness that I can't explain. I can't be positive, but I don't think it's the beta blocker. I think it's because I literally have forgotten how to function out of fight or flight. With the drastic increase in POTS the last couple of years, and because it effects the automatic system and messes up not just physical health but mental health as well, do you think you could do a video on mental health and POTS? While I've seen a lot of evidence of correlation, I've not seen any actual mental health specialist talk about it

Misuse of imagination is a real worry driver. Imagination is an innate resource we often need to be taught to manage usefully. Education emphasises 'paying attention' and 'focussing' - and these are useful skills. Yet we'd do well by learning to break our attention and mindfully focus on other things - especially when it comes to worry! The compulsive what-ifs (?) that keep us locked in a state of hypervigilance. Often, worrying is a response to uncertainty or feeling attached to a specific outcome. Acknowledging this is a useful step - in addition to all your excellent advice. Thanks, Emma. Best wishes, Dominic

There are so many variables with the work I do that could screw the project up and cost me my own time and money as well as the emotional stress that goes with failure...mostly shame. I do well with taking out as many of those variables as possible. However, the stress that I put myself through every job is taxing. Thank you for sharing these exercises and will try them out. Catch 22. If you’ve broadened your outlook, & let go of anticipating the worst… but then the worst happens (more catastrophic than you first imagined years ago) - almost reinforcing you were wrong to relax. And then you feel immense bad feelings, so turn to reflection, analysis, worry, (unable to see fixes) … it’s a tough one to get out of.
I’ve tried to engage my brain in work, being useful. But it’s a temporary reward.
I wish counsellors knew many of these topics and could unlock the tools / options of sight.

I am new to having an anxiety disorder. It makes me want to cry all the damn time. And it's even worse, because I'm also struggling with depression at the same time. So, it's like I'm constantly battling between the past and the future on a constant level. It's so tiring. The tiniest things, such as asking a question, put so much pressure on my chest. Sometimes I just simply don't want to live. And I don't know what to do.

I have Complex PTSD and it's ruined my life. I'm also diagnosed with Schizotypal PD so the "magical thinking" part was not lost on me!
This was a very good video and I would recommend "The Chimp Paradox" by Professor Steve Peters, it's similar to what you discussed but has its own specific and simple model.

To me, I worry a lot about the future of this earth. The news, politics, and wars are all things that I worry about a lot. To combat these worries, I don't usually do things like "scheduling" times to worry. I combat these problems by doing more things that increase my happiness. I love to solve Calculus Problems, do Sudoku, Watch video game RUclips videos, and listen to Disturbed music. That's usually how I combat my worries.

I have attempted to meditate many times in my life and prior to this CD the only success I've experienced is with live guided meditation. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq This is the first CD I've used that cuts through my unmedicated ADHD and enables me to truly relax and experience a quiet and energizing interval. The instructors voice is very soothing and pleasant to listen to. I am easily able to sit successfully through the entire CD, and for quite some time after. I cannot adequately express how tremendously helpful this CD has been on my spiritual journey!! Two thumbs up and 10 stars!

This is helpful for people who have not experienced significant childhood traumatic abuse. In those cases worry may have actually saved their lives by keeping them from acting in ways that might have caused their abusers to behave even worse. Sad but true.

    • @Chickaqee
      @Chickaqee Год назад

True, worry saved their lives then. But if the trauma is in the past, then it becomes a maladaptive behavior to behave as if the trauma is still ongoing. Actually that's the goal of therapy for CPTSD, to teach the body and mind that the trauma is over, it's actually safe now

My thing is. I worried about getting fired and got fired. So my brain was worrying about getting fired because of actual things that were happening that made me feel as though I was about to get fired. Sometimes worry isn't irrational and what I need is to figure out a way to think "well even if it does happen, i'll be fine rather than it probably won't and this is an irrational fear".

Worrying often comes from things and subjects that are never fixed in the common culture. It is many times a question of thoughts and matters that are not addressed in anywhere and not told in anywhere as such that they would not cause trouble or worry. There are big holes in things that are addressed publicly regarding many things that are important and cause much worrying in life. Usually, things that are addressed properly do not cause worry and things that are left out of it cause it. They are always experienced alone with things that are thought to exist only with him or her and no-one else, because of wrong and misleading information. This kind of loneliness is very important in matters that connect to this subject. There is not enough information available about the certain things that cause it and they are not handled consciously enough in the public culture. There should always be a general consciousness about the common things that cause worries in life and they should be taken in to notice with these subjects and not ignored totally. It is very childish to ignore things like this and this is something very fundamental. More care for the importances of things should be shown in this connection. Worrying is a consequence of irresposibleness in the society or in the public channels, in connection with wrong and misleading information.
Usually homelessness is a major thing that causes a lot of worrying and nothing is done to improve anything about this. Losing health is another thing. It's like they don't care anything about how these things are experienced, although it is important and has always been. No-one should ever understate the importance of worrying that people experience in life. They should be seen as a signal of the most important things in life as being in danger and treated as such.

On the flip side, if worry is excessive thinking about the worst case scenario, we could help ourselves by making it into a game where we also think a lot about the best case scenario - then we can teach ourselves to have balance between the good and the bad.
