Success. I have a 2001 tacoma 2.4. Ck engine light came on. p303 I replaced plugs and coils. That did not correct it. What did work was 2 cans seafoam and 12 gallons premimum. it took a couple trys to erase the code but it is off now. Ill follow up later.
@@grainbuzz1 I put 2 cans in at once but it turned out to be a fuel injector. I replaced with 4 inexpensive injectors from ebay and it fixed the problem. no 303 code anymore
Success. 2001 tacoma 2.4 160k miles ck engine light came on p303. no the seafoam did not work . Replaced coils and plugs. moved on to compression. #1 138, #2 135 #3 135 # 4 132 This seems on the low side but consistent. moved on to injectors replaced all 4. Fired right up. no engine light. Now ill put some miles on it and report back. This little truck gets a no bs 23 mpg. I have parked my cummins, diesel is over 6 bucks a gallon here in Calif. david @JohnSadlersAutoRepair
Thank you. I have a miss fire on #1 & #3 . I will do a compression test and depending on the results will decide to send it to a pro or do it at home. Either way I really appreciate the info. I feel better about making a educated decision v going into something blind.
Could you confirm what you sprayed into intake? At about :55 you said brake cleaner and at 1:50 you said carb cleaner. Didn't get good look at the can.
golf603 I used crc brand brake cleaner. The chemical I spray in the engine is BG Products, it's a 3 part kit. air intake cleaner, fuel injection cleaner and 44K you add to the fuel tank. I have several other videos that explain in more detail.
Got a 04 Tacoma 2.4 with about 170k thinking about doing the head gasket service on it because it’s throwing a P0301 code and misfires when warm but when cold runs perfect, changed the plugs n coils. Still no different, Would the head gasket even be necessary to do if it’s just a burn valve? Cylinder 1: 150psi cylinder 2: 160psi cylinder 3: 155psi cylinder 4: 170psi
Great tip, thanks for sharing. How did you find out it was a burnt valve? Was it because it smoothed out after running the b&g cleaner? Or did you perform a leak down?
This is the second one that I remember with the same mileage and not well maintained. It's possible the fuel injector on that cylinder has a weak spray pattern also. The customer didn't want to spend more than an hour diagnostic time so I didn't do the leak down test. I drove it before and after, runs quite a bit better now, still rough idle but not as bad. Will check after a tank full of gas with the 44K from BG Products.
@@andygallagher2861 Not sure anymore Andy, most people end up buying a used engine from Japan. They have low mileage and hold up pretty good! There are several companies on the Internet that offer good warranties also. Shop around, let me know if you need any help.
im having the same problem with my Toyota, ignition coils had cracks in the so I changed them. Ran fine till it got warmed up and started again. Im gonna try a compression text tomorrow but im thinking its an injector it only happens when the vehicle is warm?
i brought it to the dealership to have them look at it the said injectors was the next thing so instead of paying them im doing it myself. If this doesn't solve it im gonna leave it at my mechanic to fix. I haven't check the compression yet will do while im installing the new injector(s).
Good advice. I've checked compression and the lowest is where the misfire code is, #3. I've also got a "p0402 exhaust has recirc flow excessive" does this shed any light on whether my issue is with the valves or if it's the cylinder? Could it be too much fuel from the injectors? Or is there some other sensor that dictates the fuel amount? any advice is appreciated. Thanks
J-Delta Duck Hunts Masters Masterpieces I would squirt a small amount of oil in that cylinder and check the compression again. If it goes up more than 20 lb it's probably the cylinder rings.
I had same code in 99 toyta tacoma. I cleaned the EGR, but I think it was the spark plugs that was causing it. I changed the spark plugs. After spark plug change truck is running great without any issue.
Great job sir. My cousin just threw a bunch of parts at his Highlander, because he's an expert and didn't need to diagnose it........ 303 code still present. He told a shop to do a PCM, that didn't fix it. Hahahahaha. He is 1200 into it, and it's not fixed. At least someone else is out there diagnosing before parts are tossed at it. I'm waiting for my cousin to come crawling to me after I told him I would drag it for him. I love watching incompetent people blow money. Hahahahahahahaha. Egos are a humans downfall.
Bill Jeff Thanks Bill! Yep, see that a lot. Unfortunately people spend a lot of money, buy a lot of parts that friends tell him to or they decide to and it still doesn't fix the problem.

Awesome!!! Keep me posted.
Did you pour the 2 cans of sea foam at once with one fill up? Or did you pour one can per fill up?

whatever happened with this toyota tacoma??? B&G fixed it ????? or was it a valve???????????????
ran alot better for 3 months, then bad again. This time very low compression, burnt valve.
What does it normally run to repair a burn valve?

That's so Great David!!!
In the situation in case stranded somewhere can I pull a spark plug meaning disconnect it and run on three? Just to get home
You can try it, if the check engine light starts blinking it means it is damaging the catalytic converter and you're better off getting it towed

They did a valve job and still the same they did not change injectors there the original ones
Bummer
did I miss it, what fixed the problem?
Hi Gabriel: Had a burnt valve , ran good for 3 weeks after I cleaned up the carbon
@@JohnSadlersAutoRepair but what is causing the carbon build up??
@@patriciomunoz2830 Carbon builds up naturally over time. Poor quality gas increases that problem due to not burning efficiently.
