These trucks came out of what is now Tesla's Fremont plant in CA. The year is a good one, mine was new when I got it.. She is pushing 360,000 now, I'm looking for a rebuilt motor to drop in..
Got a 99 with 340,000+ on the clock. Thank you for the insight on what I'm gonna be looking at when I pop the valve cover and oil pan off on mine. Hope the parts are avalible for the rebuild! Looking forward to the follow up videos!
Would love to see some detail pics of the the head intake ports, ls there any improvements to be made by port work? I have the same engine with 130K, mine is flawless…
Soooo.....for like 600 bucks you can get a chinese head and be in business. Its cheaper than rebuilding a possibly cracked head and sorting out the undoubtedly burned valves and cracked seats. Ive seen people have had good luck with complete heads for these 2rz and 3rz motors. Just check the valve clearance before installation and youd probably be in good shape.
Hello there, I have the exact same truck, I love it! Because of some $problms I've been (was) trying to sell it here in Baja California (Mexico) but people are cheaping too bad on it because of a bad oil pan and a rack and pinion leak, and since I got myself back in business I'am thinking on keeping it and tuning this baby out, but It might need valve maintenance and I definetely have the DIY gene, I'am curious though, why you would want a carburated 2rz? I use my truck for everything so It might be way better for me to keep it and learn all these repairs, thanks a lot for putting this video out and YES PLEASE REBUILD VIDEO WOULD BE AWESOME, sorry por yelling out of excitement lol@@PaulGarage03
Thanks for your response I just changed the oil and the owners manual calls for 5.8 quarts. I change oil and filter used Castrol HM 5.3. The only this when I checked the dipstick it was about the F a bit. Seems like Toyota would have just specified 5 qts.
I like your efforts and direction . I want to rebuild my 98' 2.4L Tacoma engine. The original engine was replaced with a refurbished engine that lasted only a year and about 40k miles , its was warrantied , replaced again then lasted only one year again . This was very disappointing , I'm going to rebuild this engine so long as the block is good . This will be my first attempt and learning path , I've done most every maintenance on my Tacoma and want this truck running again, Ive been advised to buy a new truck but why get in debt for 50k when I can get my truck running for about 1k . Any advise on good quality rebuild parts and manual is appreciated.
Blew a radiator hose while i was driving so i didnt hear it, temp on the dash didnt change with no water on the sensor, pulled up to a stop light and it shut off and wouldnt restart
REBUILD! REBUILD!!!!
Would love to see the rebuild
Yep, rebuild video please.

why??you can gett 500,000 mile or more just keep the oil changed.
@@JohnnyCarroll-wi6tx That's one thing I've done every 3K or so.. The rebuild I'm still looking for would be a back up motor..

A build vid would be great actually, you can do it Paul.
Yesssss sirrrr show us the rebuild. Good job man
Thank for this I’m doing the exact same thing so just watching this walk thru helped a lot
The. Man. Knows what he’s doing.
Thanks for the informative video. I’ll be doing the same with my 325k miles Tacoma.
I have a 95 Tacoma 2rz with 253,000 still going great. Need a valve adjustment but other than that it’s striving for 300 plus. Great video
great video, thanks waiting for new videos about Tacoma!!!✌️
I watched this video carefully and saw everything you did is good.following your steps.
A socket and a 1/2" impact gun will take the bolt out of the crank snot; if you haven't already got it done. These engine are tough as nails.
I had my ½in impact chuggin on it for 30 seconds and it just would not come out

no.there is no port work.

Thats not bad at all, i may do that, and i could switch to a head with a distributer too, i wanna make a carburated 2rz
@@PaulGarage03 there is a way I'm sure

Thanks for a great information. What type of oil and viscosity and oil change interval
I used 10w20 or 10w30 synthetic, kinda just whatever was cheaper at the time, and i changed it every 4-5k whenever it turned black

LC Engineering makes good parts for these engines, slightly performance based but still great parts
I would like to see the build back video
Rebuild it please I got a 98 2.4 Tacoma.with 332.000 miles
How did it overheat?
Blew a radiator hose while i was driving so i didnt hear it, temp on the dash didnt change with no water on the sensor, pulled up to a stop light and it shut off and wouldnt restart

Yes yes rebuild yes
Do you got a video on how to take off the oil pan with the transmission attatched?
👍👍
granny was slow, but she had a reason.
I have the same exact motor and leak oil all over the engine. Do you know exactly where it’s leaking?
Hey how many miles on that engine ?😊
Please make another video!
Hey do you know why the camshaft wont sit flush 😊
none ya.
Thank toy
Dropping the cam caps ... unbelievable. Why are you mixing those up
It doesn't matter, you really can't mix them up. Each cap is stamped E 1-5 and I 1-5.
Pull the front cover off
