  • A collective shock was felt when David Bowie passed this past Sunday, a couple days after his 69th birthday. We immediately teamed up with the Art Gallery of Ontario to pay tribute by singing our original arrangement of Space Oddity with 500+ singers. It all went down last night in Walker Court and here's how it sounded, looked, and felt. RIP Starman: to say we'll miss you doesn't even scratch the surface.
    Recorded in Toronto January 16th by Choir! Choir! Choir!. We usually meet Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There are no auditions and everyone is welcome to join. Find us at choirchoirchoir.com + @choirchoirchoir (Tw/Insta). Hear even more at soundcloud.com/choir-choir-choir.com

    I was lucky enough to be in the crowd for this on Saturday. In the moment I knew it was something special. Now that I can watch it from "afar", I'm haunted by the beauty of it. Nearly 5 years of singing with Choir! Choir! Choir! and I can say that this is probably the single best thing I've ever been a part of in all the time I've been lucky enough to sing with them. Hopefully, Bowie would be proud of the beauty that people can create with the gifts he gave us.

    Brilliant. For those that are posting that people are reading lyrics, therefore, they don't know the song; this is an arrangement of three part harmony meaning that they need to know when they should be singing, Just enjoy the collective tribute.

      @TheSpupEh 8 лет назад +76

      +James Lahey Thank you! In addition, none of us will have seen or heard the vocal arrangement before we walk in the door that night. Many of us can't even read music. All of what people can see on our YT channel is the product of AT MOST a couple of hours of learning by ear. It's a drop-in choir with no auditions so you never know who is going to be there on any given evening, or what level of musicianship you're going to have in the room. And yet, somehow, it all comes together beautifully, week after week.

      @MaeNotEast 8 лет назад +25

      +James Lahey I have listened to this song hundreds of times and I'm sure I would have checked the lyrics throughout. I might even have decided to read them all the way through to make sure I didn't use the wrong word (is it floating through the door or stepping???) or get the verses in the wrong order or skip a verse completely. Or, in the case of singing a group tribute to a singer I've loved for 4 decades, I just get too emotional and cannot think of a single word past "Ground control to Major Tom."

    • @johnnythreefour2902
      @johnnythreefour2902 8 лет назад +6

      Sabrina Phillips
      No, that's dedication and talent. The word genius has an actual definition, you don't get to just make it up as you see fit. Every day I get up and do my job. Every day. That doesn't make me a genius.

    • @zackg007
      @zackg007 8 лет назад +3

      +Johnny Threefour actually, their genius lies in their arrangements. These are not sing alongs. Daveed creates the 3 part harmony arrangements, and teaches them to a croud of non musicians and performs it in under 2 hours. The arrangements are mind blowingly beautiful and 100% original. I get what you mean, and I hate the constant incorrect use of the word "literally" but in this case I think you are wrong. This is a form of artistic brilliance. There's nothing else like it.

    I didn't even know this existed until I read about it in the Toronto Star. So I came looking for this tribute thinking "okay, no big deal, I'll give it a listen BUT no more tears and it won't be THAT good anyway." Oops. It is that good. For some reason I was thinking the audience was there to listen, NOT that the audience was the choir. I think I made it to the second sentence before crying over this preformance. I honestly thought that I was finally resigned to the loss of an artist I came to love in the early 1970's. This is a beautiful tribute and the choir should know how much their preformance has moved so many of us. Thank you.

    David Bowie, an early adaptor to the postmodern alienation of our age.. .and things like this really help, if only for a moment. Love and prayers to and for you, dear reader. pg

    My 1st date with my boyfriend, JoJo was going to the AGO to see the David Bowie exhibit in October, 2013 (my idea). While it was certainly my best 1st date ever, (& yes, we're still together), it marked my beginning of my journey as I explore so much of what "was Bowie". I was so impressed with his art, whether it was in his music, his album covers, his costumes in concert, his lyrics, WOW! Prior to the AGO visit, I was not so deeply aware of David Bowie's artistry. I will always feel humbled looking at his artistic output to the world. If I can give even 10% to the world, in comparison to David Bowie's 100%, I will feel like I've given my all. p.s. I was brought to tears as I watched on-line this singing tribute to Bowie at the AGO. I'm sure his spirit was with you all on that blessed night. Thank you for sharing on-line this outpouring of love for an amazing artist. I almost felt like I was there.
