  • It's a home run with this hilarious and beloved comedy, starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna. With baseball lineups and locker rooms left empty during World War II, the newly-founded All-American Girls Baseball League brought talented women to the big leagues-and brought fans to the stands. The indomitable Dottie Hinson (Davis) finds herself leading a rag tag group of players who end up winning over the heart of their has-been coach, Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks). Lori Petty, Rosie O’Donnell and Jon Lovitz round out the all-star roster. Based on the true story of the pioneering women who blazed the trail for generations of athletes.

nostalgia is enticing but also blinding. as much as I love this movie, Moneyball is the clear winner. superior acting, script, story...it's just better. call me biased, but Moneyball is a real story. this is loosely based off of one.

Robin Williams was in Mrs. Doubtfire With Sally Field. Sally Field was in Steal Magnolias with Julia Roberts. Julia Roberts was in Stepmom with Susan Sarandon. Susan Sarandon was in Thelma and Louise with Geena Davis.

I believe her husband recently passed away (notice how she caresses her wedding picture in the opening scene), and she then moved in with her daughter (who references the baseball glove being in "one of the boxes that was sent over"). So she's probably still grieving the loss of her husband and her home, and spending a lot of solitary time in her new room.

Why was Dottie telling the pitcher to throw high fastballs only on Kitt's fourth at bat of the game?

Sheesh. I don’t think any of these “Actors” ever held a bat before this film. Lol! It’s ridiculous but I liked the movie.

Actually fun fact I found out recently is that every actress that auditioned had to be able to swing a bat so all of the batting cages were full before they picked the actors lol. I couldn't imagine going to the cages when I played softball and seeing adults so bad lol

there are few things more satisfying than punching the pocket of a baseball glove. i defy anyone to put on a ball glove and not punch it.
