We get through a lot of drills and impacts at work with multiple users abusing them. A few years ago, someone mistakenly bought a load of G-series not realising they were incompatible with LXT, but we decided to keep them anyway. The impacts were virtually as good as the LXT equivalent in my opinion and the drills were pretty good too; just a bit less torque, as you said. The only real criticism I have is that the batteries lose their ability to hold a charge a lot sooner than LXTs. They were all dead in about five years, whereas we've got some LXT batteries twice that age and still going strong. I assume that's because of the simpler charging circuitry in the G-series. I reckon for DIY use, though, you've made a good purchase for your lad.
Excellent. I wish I’d have done my research. Brought my three combo drill and impact driver sets and it’s a bit of a waste really. Having said that at least they’re all set for whatever they need. My daughter uses hers more than the lads😂👍. Another great video bud🤘 Ps found you on Ebay 🙌
Oh boy, I have appreciated Makita for keeping the same battery system for decades but also developing on multiple voltage systems, actually the CXT 10.8V series (witch I bought randomly on a sale) convinced me into buying LXT 18v ones, quality wise the 10.8v was good enough but not so much depth of cut or torque. I use them both in multiple occasions. But now having a new line for Hobbyists witch is branded Makita and having a totally different 18v battery system makes no sense for me. The LXT and also an CXT series have already a lot of tools. why not expand even more on that? New battery new charger and new tool is no fun for everyone, with every tool owner that I have talked they have just one brand, because of the vendor (battery) lock. My bet is that owners of either CXT or LXT series wound buy the G series, and the ones that buy the G series won't buy the CXT or LXT ones, also maintaining another series would bring the current ones to slow progress, and we won't see any time soon a LXT belt sander or a glue gun which are the holly tools of almost every enthusiast. ( if someone from Makita reads this maybe it would be next year there) In conclusion, they just could said that this is our "mt" cordless version and it works both with these new cheaper batteries but also with the existing LXT battery. They could have resolve that via a pin or such so that the cheap battery won't fit the LXT series but the LXT battery would fit the G series. And yes maybe they want to protect the professionals from buing the low quality tools that can damage their brand and the hobbyists to not overspend of that one time, but I think that is wrong, professionals may be on a tight budget, hobbyist may want to become professionals. having a battery that works for both makes more sense to sales and also keeps the "one battery to rule them all" legacy.
A bit misunderstanding related to yellow connector on LXT batteries, the connector's purpose is to communicate with chargers, and chargers only. The yellow connections in there allow for individual charging, ballancing and measurment of cells inside the battery, the connector is not needed for the tool. No makita tool connects to those yellow lines. Makita LXT tool only needs plus and minus and in some cases (the star batteries & tools) also have the 3rd main connector thru which battery can tells the tool to shut down (undervoltage and possibly also for overcurrent protection).
@@UKTOOLTALK no problem, glad to share my knowledge, i design battery adapters and know a fair amout how the tools work. I think this also explains something you mention in video - why g series batteries charge longer - lxt charger can charge each battery cell in parallel, while g-series charges whole pack at once, but at lower current.
More information I love it!!, this is what I love about doing my channel it’s a melting pot of ideas and help, I think everyone who watches my channel has sussed out I’m not going to be getting a phone call from nasa anytime soon, cheers again dude 🤟🤟
