    Ive been buying the Japanese versions. I have the 171,172 and the new 173. I have always felt that performance wise they are practically identical and to see that pretty much validated is nice. My main reason for buying each them, besides me being a makita fan boy and tool addict, is each new version just looks that much more comfortable in the hand. It is very true as well. I think they knew that performance was in a great spot with the 171 so it was just tweaks to ergonomics. The 173 is my favorite mostly because of the ring light and the shifted back base balances it really well. I gave my 171 to a coworker friend but i enjoy using any of the 3. The better results you got from the xdt14 perplexed me. I used to have the 14 and when i got the 171 i did some comparisons with different fasteners in a few different materials and the 171 came out faster most of the time. Not by a huge margin but therebwas a difference.

    • @PhillyFixed

      That's interesting - I mean, variation from tool to tool during mass production is definitely a thing. Although I've usually seen it with DeWalt, not Makita.

    • @ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL
      @ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Месяц назад +1

      The TD173D is the top of the line 18v, whereas the GDT02 (TD003G) is a budget/entry level 40v.

    Hmmm, I had thought that the XTD19 was the US equivalent of the TD172, not the 171 though I think they're mostly just a different button layout from one another, so perhaps it's meaningless anyway. From that second test, it almost looks like it might not be the US equivalent of either of them, but a third different driver, or it's just testing (or production variance, who knows).
    I also have the TD173, it might not perform much differently in the day to day than the 172 that I also have, but I really like that tool a lot, that light is just really useful.

    Makita Impact drivers are a Great example why Newer isn't Always Better ..😢 I bought the 40v Impact and Hammer Drill Kit when it first came out , I got a great deal on it , but after using that Impact for 2 days I brought the Kit right back for a refund, the Hammer Drill was Fantastic but I don't really use it a lot , the Impact was the reason I bought it but didn't like it and went right back to my XDT19 ....

    • @PhillyFixed

      Yeah, it's frustrating having their best drill on one platform and the best impact on the other. I do use the drill quite a bit nonetheless.

    Great review, presentation and tests and everything, but I have to say that this is unfortunately another impact driver review from a american channel that only focuses on power, and for impact drivers that is one of the less important features. Especially for Makita drivers that shine so much in literally every other category. Sorry to be negative and don't take this personally, I really like your stuff in general but I have to say this because it is really common.

    • @PhillyFixed

    I have a serious question guys.... And it might be an obvious one for most of you. But i have to ask... So.....
    Should i buy a combo (Makita) that comes with the XDT16 (impact) and a hammer drill(cant remember model). Comes with 2 batteries, charger , and bagFor like $400 something.
    Or ....
    Buy the XDT19 1/4" impact but it xomes with the tool, 2 batteries, charger, and bag.
    Think they both come with 2 5AmpHour batteries.
    I know youre thinking, "yeah dumbass get the deal with the lesser of the impacts but you atleast get a hammer drill with the combo!". But part of me knows im gonna use the impact alot more than the hammerdrill so i want the XDT19 because its way newer than the XDT16.....
    What do you guys think. Am i retarded?

    • @PhillyFixed
      @PhillyFixed  12 дней назад

      Honestly, I don't think the difference between the XDT16 and XDT19 is big enough to drive your decision. That said, I don't know if they sell that combo with the XDT16 at most places anymore. The XT288T kit includes the XDT19 and XPH14 hammer drill.
      Also, don't pay $400 unless you need the tools ASAP. That kit usually serves as the basis for a BOGO deal at Home Depot a couple times throughout the year. Worst case you'll have to wait until November (Christmas deals), but it may pop up earlier. Typically it's $399 and you get a free tool on top of it. You can keep the tool, or you can return the free tool for a prorated refund (again, only at Home Depot) and the kit comes down to the mid-upper $200's.

      @@PhillyFixed yeah i was confused at first because the product details said it came with the 19 but the picture of it showed the 16 .. so that's cool in definitely gonna get the XT288T . There's even a promotion to get an angle grinder or an oscillating multi tool for free too. That's 3 tools! I'm trying to replace all my various Craftsman, Kobalt, Black n Decker, Chicago electric tools. And go with all one brand. Makita looked good so I'm gonna slowly start replacing all of them. Next I'ma get is a cordless circ saw. Piece by piece.
