It would be great if you could mark your car as stolen on the app. In such case it should lock the car when it comes to a stop and report the location of the car to the app. Alternatively it should show the route taken be the thief. Hope BYD reads this suggestion.
I think its due to lawful reasons, to avoid having an accidental incident some features cant be activated while the car is in motion. You know people love to sue these big companies
Bro took permutations and combinations to a whole new level. This is super comprehensive - thanks guys!
Again guys, thanks for this video. My wife has been watching the ATTO 3 more and more and really does like the look. This video was really helpful, not just for BYD owners, but as a Tesla owner,me also.
Thanks Ross! Glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful. Really hope the app will advance to Tesla's level
@@juicdgarage I think given time it will. The Tesla app continues to update, as does the car itself. I'm hopeful the Atto 3 and app will continue to evolve too.
Your lock/unlock sequence and combo is super useful, thanks much! 🎉
What a thoughtful thief. Communicating his intentions along the way. 😎😆
Very informative comparison and experiment. Thanks guys.🎉
Nice video guys, saves a lot of trial and error.
Really enjoyed this video. Great work guys
Very demonstration guys thanks 😊👍
2 things - it is sensible to NOT be able stop the car when in motion or stopped at lights etc. Could be a disaster.
Also being able to remote lock the car with the key inside is GOOD this happened when my wife left her purse and key in her Tesla. We were at a Christmas concert and she realized what she did. I was able to remote lock her car (I am an alternative driver) using my phone. So all safe - her purse and no one could drive or get into her car. Great logic by BYD and Tesla and it’s a real world benefit 😊
Yeah good point. I would've thought using proximity detection would mean I won't be able to lock the car at all when the key is inside. But makes total sense in your scenario.
@@juicdgarage Yup .. my wife often takes her iPhone out of her purse and puts it on the wireless charger. Then she arrives and grabs her purse leaving her iPhone and RFID card in the car. The Tesla is set to auto lock when you walk away and "BEEP" but like many ladies ... in a rush and doesn't hear the "beep" because the iPhone and RFID card are still in the car .. so what can you do ? Maybe the TESLA internal camera can check that there is NO driver and that the iPhone and RFID card are still left then do an ALARM after seeing there is no driver ? But often I am still in the car when she dashes out to the shops ....🤣
Great job with the video .. clear and to the point on the topic
incredibly helpful content! thank you
Great Video! Good job guys! I have subscribed and liked!
Thanks for the support🙏
Thanks for your efforts to make this video.
Nice work crew, covered lots of scenarios there, must be quite a bit of programming logic that goes on with some of these systems ! 😆🤠😎
100% that's why manufacturers relies on consumers' feedback to continuously make changes and updates. The people behind the logic are humans after all.
Very informative. Thank you for sharing.
Super useful. Love the suspense music too b
Excellent info, Thanks from Thailand!
Have you got an Atto3 as well? Is the app.same as the Australian version?
Good Stuff boys subbed
Great video! 👏👏👏
Good demonstration guys, we are waiting for the app launch in India.
Nicely done guys …..
it's understandable that the car can't be stopped while in motion. It could however turn off all secondary systems immediately, give a message on screen and/or by voice command that the car will stop working in a set time (counting down so even the thief would know not to stay on the highway), perhaps also saying that the car is being tracked, and turn off the motor the moment you stop the car. They could build in a safety in the app that makes you confirm when you ask the car to shut down while driving. Or better yet, just add a "car stolen" button on the app (hidden in a submenu so it wouldn't get pressed by accident). And a bluetooth connection would be great.
Good stuff boys!
Thank you very helpful
i tried this morning as I had my key in the caravan was I able to unlock the car and drive the car from the charging point in the van park and park it in front of the van, and yes i could...but your video brings lot thank-you
Thumb up for you😍
Good video🔌
Good video, well done. Would be good to a video on camera recording function for the car. Also how good the lane keep assist works for different scenarios.
I love technology! Nice car!
Love the opening, you bleeped and but didn't bleep the bleep word. Also nice to see the mics hidden and clever use of split screen. 👍🏼
Hahahaha nothing can get past your trained eyes..and ears.
@@juicdgarage BEEP yeah! 🤣
Interesting info from your testing. One thing I found the other day is that I was unable to unlock the charge port with the key fob but I was able to open it using the phone app. No idea why
Great video. Can you test Apple car play. I have so many issues with that. No voice on maps. Apps jumping around on the cars Home Screen. Call issue……
Nice Video. I find it annoying using the phone app. As you have to first unlock the app then use a long pin to unlock or lock the car. The card can be convenient if not wanting to pre condition the car
Thanks. Very helpful. A shame you can’t manage multiple drivers and use phone NFC or Bluetooth as a key
Great revue and car thanks for the great job. Would be also great if u have your key with u (not the card of phone) and the car is unlocked automatically when ur near by.
Having the key in and locking with phone makes sense,
Let's say you walk a block away and was like "Oh no, I forgot to lock!" and you lock with the phone.
You'd want that to work,
Now the reason why unlocking doesn't work is that there are 3 zones that detects the key,
In the car, outside the driver door, and behind the baggage (trunk).
You can only unlock/lock in the driver zone. (you can also lock from the trunk)
It's a nice car (I have it in red) I put Headunit Reloaded the first day I had it to have great Android Auto support and it works great with my Oneplus 6!
Hey Bud, what's Headunit Reloaded if you don't mind me asking. Picking up my wife's car tomorrow, so just trying to be a step ahead. We both use Samsung if that makes any difference.
Hope they can add the one pedal driving for this car.
#BYD - need to see this video...
Hello, greatings from Mexico... do you know how3 install apps without usb??? i cant anymore sice update to work an app BYD.... Thank u very much
Do you know where the sim is located and the way to set it up if a new sim is needed?
i woukd be nicr to know on wich models this works?
Good and useful video
Thank you
? But how the mobile app connected to the car
4G I assume...
Very useful tests, thanks.
Not being an EV owner yet, I'm curious to know how secure your charging situation is if you go away from your car, i.e. can someone remove the charge plug in malice?
There's an actuator in the charge port to prevent people from unplugging the car. That said, some stations have a stop button where people can press and unplug your car...
@@juicdgarage
Thanks.
A bit disconcerting if there are green eyed monsters out there displaying envy.
Thanks for the video, is it possible to use the app on several mobile phones or only in one?
Currently only works on one phone at a time.
The car have NFC. Hace you tried or is possible configure NFC Smartphone with the NFC car?, then you dont need wifi, 4g etc
Brooo i need need need to know if the bud iam buying is the Chinese version... can i turn the voice assistant to English? Pls help
Good video. Can you also use the NFC function of the phone (not the app) - you should be able to "scan" the NFC Card to your wallet on the phone
Good question. I have a Pixel 7 so it's not immediately available to associate an NFC card to the phone. But I'll find a way and test it out!
I don't think you can. The solution for me is to put the NFC card under the case of my phone. It works for me and the case is not preventing the NFC connection. Caution ⚠️: You should not charge the phone with a wireless charging with this solution, it can harm the NFC card.
in China,you can
Useful video, thank you. Small comment - the 'dramatic' music during the testing, is just annoying.
Thanks for the video guys, I won't mention one test you said turning off the car when actually all you were doing was turning off the A/C lol but good video all the same.
we got ours a few weeks ago and loving it but its not without gremlins, touching on just one bug, the navigation is so outdated it says things like school ahead where there hasn't been one for 20years and other stuff so what I would like to do is replace the installed navigation with Google Maps since they are combining with the Waze team and added optimisation for EV's this would be a better option to the native maps.
Question is how do we go about 1. Installing google maps and 2. Have it replace the navigation button on the opening screen? I've watched a couple of RUclips videos of a Russian guy using easy fire and a phone or plugging in a usb to the media headset behind kick panel and installing from a pc, I'm a little worried BYD might say this could void warranty? I doubt it can but if you could look into installing third party apps and do a video of results that would be awesome, TIA
With the BYD the only way to turn the car on and off is turning the A/C on and off. I am investigating the different options for third party apps... hopefully a video soon 😁
@@juicdgarage unfortunately as your video shows that isn't effective, maybe if car is stolen there should be a way to call service centre and have them shut down the car remotely as with my Tesla once they have police close enough to effect the arrest
It's been pretty much more than a year. I wonder has BYD actually solved all these important issues. And also the live location tracking of the car. Anyone know?
Cherrybrook station car park top floor?
The atto3 has( keyless go ) option, that mean if you open the car from application you have 10 min to start the engine, after i will not start
We tested this feature and found that 4 minutes is the transition point. ie after 4 mins of unlocking from app, we were not able to start the car.
Could you guys do a video about what the software is like on the BYD? I’m thinking of either getting the Atto 4 when it comes out in Aus or the Model Y. I’m hesitant about BYD because their software may not be as refined as a Tesla
Absolutely
Good idea!
we have both Atto 3 and a Model 3 and your right the Tesla is far superior but then its a lot more expensive too, but to the software, our M3 has premium connection which unlocks a few things like traffic aware cruise control which is activated by pulling the gear stalk down once, (down twice engages lane control to keep you in the lane should you drift) the atto engaging cruise control is fiddly with the little buttons and indicators on the smaller screen harder to read small text, I've gone to engage the atto CC and let go of the pedal only to feel the car decelerate its not the best and definitely not the one touch of the Tesla, in which speed can be adjusted by the right scroll on wheel.
the Atto connects to wifi and hotspot but won't transfer data via these it has to be a cable plugged into the usb. Spotify comes free with premium in Tesla but it uses its own account so if you have Spotify you can't transfer playlists etc, I don't so haven't used it in the Atto.
it will be nice to be able to install third party software on the Atto I'd love to change from the pre-installed Navigation to Google maps since google is combining with Waze which they own but they will give a better resulting product as google maps has also been updated to give more support to EV route planning.
If anyone knows how to get other apps easily onto the Atto please let us know.
my Tesla has had about 50 updates in the near 4 years OTA seamlessly improving things I hope byd will get better.
One thing I really don't like about the Atto is when I get in and power it up the Home Screen starts from scratch in that I have to individually start radio then the home button or mic to start the radio etc, before I move off but then when I turn the car off and get back in I have to repeat the process to get the apps up and running again, what it should do is like every other car has always done when you start the car everything starts from where you left it, radio on right station, navigation up and running or not, this is a pet hate if your constantly in and out of the car.
@@waynes9163 I agree. I actually find the radio quite clunky and never got around to learning how to use it. I find myself just using Spotify for music and podcasts.
If there is no reception, could you use the Mobile Hotspot on your phone to force a network around y6our BYD and thus use the app? Or does the app need reception to work?
I think the phone will need to have reception to hotspot. I am unsure if the car would jump to different connections automatically
Waiting for BYD APP release in India
good Vid, but what if you use the app for a friend and they drive somewhere where there no phone reception . does the car shut down because the car connected to phone App ?
I think once the car is unlocked for a session, the car will continue to operate normally until the car is turned off and locked. Meaning that if the car ended up at a location with no reception, there will be no way of unlocking it without being there physically with a key
I am curious if you could use ur phone nfc to unlock the car by clone the nfc card to your phone first, would be interested to see that in action
Good question. I have a Pixel 7 so it's not immediately available to associate an NFC card to the phone. But I'll find a way and test it out!
Well done. The one about locking your phone in the car makes it practically useless to use your phone as a key. I have the NFC card in my wallet but do I always have my wallet with me. No. It would be great if they could use the NFC chip in your phone to unlock the car. Then they would be able to sense if the phone was still in the car.
i can use nfc stored on my phone to do that. if it is not activated outside of china then it may be due to "national security issues".
my Tesla locks when it detects I've moved away "lock on leaving" it even closes any windows I may have left open, I'm having to remind myself and the wife to hit the top button on the remote of the ATTO to lock it when we walk away, waiting 2 minutes for the car to lock itself is too long
@@waynes9163 but if you don't carry the key fob with u then tesla won't do that. why carry a key fob with modern day ev?
@@qilu2004 I don't have a key fob, it connects via the phone app or the card both of which I always have with me but in emergency a call to service centre and they will unlock remotely.
14:00 if the key is in the car, you cannot lock it with the button. But you can still lock it with your phone. Because it is impossible to accidentally leave both your phone and the key inside the car, and lock it with the app. UNLESS you are also inside the car. If you accidentally left the key and your phone in the car, but you are standing outside, how do you use the app to lock the car?
There is no problem here. It is working as designed.
You're right. I guess my hypothesis was if the car uses the key proximity to prevent you from locking the car, it should be applicable to all modes. Didn't put much thought into the different scenarios for this one haha
I noticed a "STOP" in the app which is greyed out just below the car name top left, I wonder what this will do when activated ? I was hoping it would stop charging remotely to save me having to unplug lead when desired charge level is reached instead of no way to manage charging other than disconnecting. Any idea what it's for?
I think the STOP is the status of the car. When car is on it'll say STARTED
@@juicdgarage not what I’ve experienced the STOP is greyed out whether car is running or not, it seems to have no functionality I can find?
If you turn on the ac when you are far away, does it acts like the scenario in which you turned on the car, and then someone can get in the car and still it?
no, when you turn the ac on remotely the car will remain locked
@@juicdgarage thanks!
Nicer
I have locked the key in the car, when I have a second key in pocket. I also read that if the car is driven using the phone and the phone goes offline, then it will stop. Would need to test second scenario.
Interesting. I would've thought the session will remain active until the car is turned off and locked/times out.
what about remote detonation ?
So if I steal a BYD Atto 3 so that I have 2, I should make sure I remove the sim card?
Then what?
If you loan the car to someone could they set up the app so they have control after the key and card is returned ?
app is link to your email when you purchase the car so they won't be able to set this up even if they have the card or key
ur right next to the car for those test bros
Just as you mentioned, the simplest thing to stop someone unauthorised from driving away in your car is “PIN to drive” like Tesla does.
You really want to go through the hassle of putting your "pin to drive" every time you get into your car? Why would anyone unlock their car and walk-away?
Can you lock the keys in the car and take NFC card to beach for example
yes
Can you turn air con on but car is still locked? And if thief break glass, unlock car, can thief start and drive the car?
If the aircon is on the car is technically on as well. So my guess is yes if they break the window they can drive away
Should try to LOCK the car from the App - at diff mode - car in motion, stationary at D and such
Ok.... great video, next question, what happens if someone steals your phone or hacks into your phone app you have just lost your car! :(
I'd say it's exactly what happens when someone steals the key to your car - except they'd have to hack through three layers of passwords. And in the event that they hack into it you can potentially change your password or get the dealership to deactivate it whereas with a key you can't.
You can using the NFC function in phone to unlock the car in China, so it doesn't need the phsical NFC card.
I think we may have this option stripped from us here in Australia...
what i didnt understand iis when your car has stealed . is your friend bring smart key or nfc card with him to turn on the vehicle ?
I am simulating a scenario where if you were to unlock your car remotely via the app and someone got in within 2minutes.
@juicdgarage awe so that's mean even someone didn't bring the nfc card , app or key they can drive after door unlocked ?? Within 2 mintes
@@vickjourneyif someone unlocks it remotely from the app, yes. As demonstrated in test 1.
The app did not use Bluetooth to lock and unlock the car without touching the soft button on the app.
Why won't the byd app work with my android phone samsung A31. Is there a way to acess the app with this phone model?
Not sure. Make sure you have Android version 5.0 and up
ok kool@@juicdgarage
Does this work on BYD E6
I don't believe the E6 have the capability
how do you pass registration? I have BYD Han and i want to get registration but it says mail is not bound to any car. how should i do it?
Did you get it second hand? I think it's best to reach out to the dealer/manufacturer. I logged in the first time as shown in the video
@@juicdgarage I am the first owner but it was bought by company. I didnt buy it myself
@@sabitbagirli7399 make sure you're using the same email as the email used to purchase the car
If you start the car remotely from your physical key and unlock it, the thief can get inside the car and drive away. Just tried.
Can you start the car with the NFC card only?
Yes
BYD then need to activate Bluetooth, so at least locally with no signal you would be able to get into your car, if you don't have your card or key
isn't that always available?
car can be locked and unlocked from the app from anywhere so even if you lose the card and your phone so long as someone you know like a partner has the app if you can call them they can open the car remotely and it can be driven just be aware should you turn the car off you would need to repeat call to partner, its also time sensitive so call from close proximity to the car as once partner unlocks it anyone can get in and drive, better it be you lol
@@qilu2004 bluetooth is always there if its turned on just like your phone but it has limited range 50m I think but don't quote me.
@@waynes9163 i know. the key is to park ur car somewhere with internet connection. bluetooth is for close range situation. basically the key fob is never needed.
@@qilu2004 we use fob all the time to lock unlock open tailgate and turn AC on or off
I think your proximity to the car with your key, may have affected some of these results.
I drive an EV - Polestar 2, asking on behalf of my parents as they plan to buy the Dolphin, how many NFC card(s) were given from the dealer?
Just one
So if I’m going steal the car I will need to park it in an area that has no reception and make sure I don’t lock the car so I can continue to use.
Thanks for the info, now where can I find an Atto owner thats using their phone to open their car 🧐
Hahaha think it times out after 4 minutes fortunately
My BIG concern, if the phone is hacked, or, the owner's BYD account is hacked, then the car would be at risk??!! 😮
anything that has been hacked is at risk so yes it would be as would your banking and anything else on the phone
@@waynes9163 then bring out 2FA is at least another line of defence, but the phone itself is acting as the terminal of the authentication
Why are you pressing the power button for the air-conditioning and talking about the car being turned on or off?
With the BYD the only way to turn the car on and off is to turn the A/C on and off
@@juicdgarage The car actually doesn’t turn off. Electric cars are always on, just in different modes. You’re just turning on and off the air conditioner which also turns on the screen etc
if your car doesn't have reception, you can still use bluetooth connection while you are close to the car and lock/unlock the car, or u can use nfc key stored in the phone to do it. but u cannot control the car remotely, as it is not connected tk the web.
Hmmm interesting...didn't know about the Bluetooth connectivity
Tesla app using Bluetooth
@@samsunggalaxy1318 it is best not to use bluetooth because you need to open the app. nfc is much more convenient.
The button is for a/c, not to turn the car on or off.
In the BYD, turning on the A/C turns on the car and turning off the A/C turns off the car
Ah - that makes sense. Can't have the a/c on without the car being on. But, if I understand it, you can't use the app to turn the car off if someone has stolen it? More's the pity.@@juicdgarage
Being able to stop the car in motion remotely without seeing the car is dangerous and may cause accident and even death.
I like how he thinks turning off the air conditioning will turn off the car
does it not?
I’d rather the BYD than put up with scary Phantom breaking on Teslas
Isn’t it shocking that you can’t track the location of the car from the app?
We can track location here in China. Maybe BYD is worried about western media or official accusing of privacy problem. Considering what happened to Huawei and Tiktok, They must be very careful.
yeah, I know Australia has got a watered down version of the app. The app is way more advance in China
Be more worried about people filming themselves using phones while driving 😮.
"security issues" again, we don't want our privacy shared to a Chinese car manufacturer, who might share our data to the Chinese gov, Bla Bla
what? that fuction is taken off? i have used that to find my byd han a few times after diners/parties when i could hardly remember things before the drinks. and in case of theft, don't u want to.know where your car is?
At 1:57 Using a walkie talkie in a car park just might be the same as using a phone on a street.
