@@ramajyello it's the same here in India. Indian companies are able to make well build cars with premium looking interior but Toyota is selling Fortuner with a high price. Fortuner is good looking on the outside. But the Indian companies beat the Toyotas in terms of features and design. But people buy the Toyotas with that hefty price. When people ask why owners reply it will last long (which is true). And when it's Toyotas hybrid a big car like that will only drink the fuel like a small car. But if people are buying, Toyota has no reason to lower the price. Financially abled people (not talking about the rich, but the upper middle class) in India might buy a bad Toyota car with high price because of the brand name. Both Hyundai and BYD and any other company don't have that power all over the world.
Had the Atto for over a year. Love it to bits, wonderful drive and ride, simply outstanding value. Super easy to drive, love the entertainment system, opening roof and sun shade. Access is very good particularly for those less able. I have to carry a wheelchair and it easily fits the back of the Atto. Finally, lots of grunt and good range. I rarely use DC chargers and around here they are mostly 50KW. My typical time on the DC charger is 20 mins.
Similar points to yours. Also have carted home 2.4metre Ikea flat packs, which amazed the staff who thought it would never fit. And last week it was a washing machine which made it in the back with millimetres to spare. Already go my money back on carrying loads and saving on delivery fees!
The LFP chemistry of the BYD is much LESS energy dense than the the NMC chemistry of the Kona. This means that the battery is bigger and heavier than the equivalent capacity. However, it is much safer being less prone to thermal runaway. Wouldn't have a car without it.
He is talking about the entire battery pack, and you are talking about the battery cells. Because LiFe has better high-temperature safety and BYD’s innovative structure, BYD’s LiFe battery pack of the same size is actually better than Hyundai’s LG lithium-ion battery. To me BYD looks much better. I saw the Hyundai the other day on the street. I was shocked by the front, where the light line goes across the front and the front lights BELOW that line! And they were quite dark. Soooo weird! That the charging is in the front is really a stupid idea.
In my country (India), Kona isn’t available. But assuming that it comes at a similar price point as BYD Atto 3, I would never choose Kona over Atto. This is because a lot of Kia Seltos and Hyundai run on the road, and a couple of my friends and family members own them the interior of Kona is no different to that. Having too much hard plastics, constant rattling noise, dual display integrated in the same manner makes it feel less value as compared to Atto which has premium feel because of the rotating infotainment screen, soft touch material and sport seats with extra support. So overall, Atto provides better feel to the owner
hyundai is the world 3rd largest car manufacturer now. they have repair services in many places. BYD probably doesn't have official repair services. Chinese people's don't invest money in customer services.

The Kona uses almost 10+ year old NCM6, not de facto industry standard NCM8/9. The Kona is after all an entry-level EV. LFP is also for entry-level, low-range EVs due to its low-energy density and weight -- and outcompetes against NCM6 in price.
@@chrischen7092 : just to be sure, Chinese's battery competitors' key advantage is their raw material cost. The raw material cost for NCM8/9 already cheaper than LFP -- we would just have to wait a few years for NCM8/9 to be commodified .
Mistake in the video @ around 8:20 you say the LiFe battery in the Atto 3 is more energy dense than the lithium ion battery (probably NMC) in the Kona. It's the other way around. You getting more Wh per kg with lithium ion chemisties as opposed to LiFePO4.

@@yudogcome5901 Sorry - he specifically said LiFe is more energy dense which is just plain wrong. Both batteries are around the same size (64kWh) so even that argument makes zero sense. The Kona is lighter because the battery is more energy dense - more kWh per kg
@@yudogcome5901 LFP batteries are effective in lowering vehicle prices, but their physical energy density is inevitably low. China can't catch up with Korea in NCM battery technology at all. However, the current issue in the electric vehicle market is that the price is high compared to the insufficient infrastructure, so LFP appears attractive because the low-priced market is the trend. However, as time goes by, as the production cost of electric vehicles decreases and expensive brands become EVs, LFP will disappear from luxury brands.
BYD hybrid should be better. BYD hybrid has beaten up Toyota's hybrid in Chinese market because BYD has much bigger batteries(longer battery range) and drives much smoother and quicker.
Kona looks cool at the front, and lousy at the back IMO. Those rear lights are frumpy - and ugly. On the interior it's no contest, the BYD is much cooler. The LFP battery on the BYD is handy, but the charging is slow if you charge publicly compared to others. The regen on the BYD leads to longer range in the city than the WLTP, but shorter on the highway where there is less braking.
To save your battery life, Manufacturer recommended charging you battery between 20% to 80%. but not with BYD's LFP batteries, you can easily to 10% to 90% (or 100%, just after 90%, charging getting slow)
All lithium ion batteries, including LFP, suffer degradation under high SOC. LFP however has to be charged to 100% because it has a flat discharge curve which makes it difficult for the BMS to estimate accurate SOC/range without recalibrating the BMS.
@@tooltalk LFPs are expected to have significantly higher cycle life, so when you talk about degradation I am assuming you mean significantly less degradation.
@@GDM22 LFP has significantly higher lifespan under stationary batteries (or ESS) workload. I’d love an EV (my ford Fusion energi plug in EV just got recalled so I’m in the market for a car with no time to research). Thanks.
I think the BYD looks way better personally, also the turn signal on the Kona triggers me a bit, why TF is it so low to the ground? That throws me off any time I see a Kona while driving around....
Don't mislead people with strange comments. There are significant differences between NCM batteries and LFP in terms of physical characteristics. LFP batteries should be 40% cheaper. Do not buy an electric vehicle that does not use NCM batteries. After a few years, LFP battery cars lose their value. Currently, the best performance and control for electric vehicles is the Hyundai EGMP Module. Do not confuse car users with inaccurate information.
Why would LFP batteries lose their value after a few years. The next version of the Blade battery has 25% higher energy density and CATL have an LFP battery coming to market with a 15 year, 1.5 million km warranty with zero degradation after 500,000kms.
A lot of people don't know this but BYD doesn't actually stand for anything. They just made the Build Your Dreams up later. That's why it's so easy to get rid of. 😂
My opinion the BYD looks better The Kia feels like there was epty space on a body pnel and the they stuck a light in there and did not bother to align it
The BIGGEST plus about the Atto 3 is that the battery is the only difference - as far as I know. Everything else is the same. No bullshit where you need to upgrade for certain features.
@DukeLM I don't need to test it Wumao, I just need to observe actual incidents that have happened in China where BYD vehicles involved in serious accidents with other cars have had instances where airbags have failed to deploy.
Just drove a demo kona ev (50km on it and they're asking $73500, so we are not sure but with 5yr peace of mind im tempted after filling car up with premium fuel today)
I test drove the byd and wanted to buy it, but my wife wanted to buy something else, so we bought a more expensive one; the Xpeng G6 seems it has some higher tech stuff that's better than atto3 like surround smart voice command; no need to say "hi" back passenger say open windown(his window) opens... and self park/drive... and wifi... and phone controls.... n 755km range.... 800V fast charging...
That is all dependent on how they are used, for most an Atto is a city car, and EVs are unbeatable as city cars especially if you have off street parking for charging. The complexity of a Hyrbid drive train for me is completely off putting.
There are more than 1.5 billion Chinese people around the world. If they say they like each other in comments, the comments become meaningless. Anyone can see that BYD has an old design and has not been verified.
So which one wins if comparing a new Atto 3 with a *second hand* top spec Hyundai Kona EV? I'm tossing up options for the second car, urban duties only, work commuting and runnings errands in the metro area only. Still got an ICE for road trips. BYD Atto 3, far better vehicle and actually modern tech on a dedicated EV platform, but starts at $48k drive away. Or get a top spec 2019 Hyundai Kona second hand with less than 40,000km for $38k. No remaining 5 year vehicle warranty, balance of 8 year battery warranty. Or the real cheap ass option, MG ZS EV, very basic vehicle but only $35k drive away. For basic urban transport and no road trip plans, hard to beat that price.
When it comes to battery, you're telling a lie. Kona's battery(NCM) is way more durable than BYD's battery(LFP). Even charge more than 80%, it doesn't effect on NCM battery's durability. Ironically LFP battery needs to be charged 100% to calibrate. Because voltage gap in LFP battery is so small that it is hard to calculate the remaining battery. And also NCM battery's C-Rate is way more higher than LFP considering usage in car. LFP battery is originally made for ESS so that it guarantee the durability in 0.5 C-rate. But when we drive, average C-rate is higher than 0.5 which affects negative influence to durability. And C-rate also affects to charging speed. As we can see in your video, kona's charging speed is faster than BYD. It means NCM battery can charge fast and safe. At last, recently in the US, many teslas die because of the super low temperature. Mostly Those teslas are using LFP battery. As a car reviewer, need to check the fact and study but you seems not...
@@cosmoobserver3416 well... I think you don't have knowledge about C-Rate. LFP is not suitable for HIGH C-RATE. And it means easy to fire and explode. In the official spec sheet from LFP manufactor(BYD, CATL), Stable C-Rate of LFP battery is 0.5C. Compare to LFP, NCM battery's(latest SK Hynix 9+) stable C-rate is more than 5C to 6C which is 10 times higher than LFP battery. Considering average driving C-rate is 2C, LFP has lower stable C-rate than it needs. So, inevitably, it keeps using more than 0.5C and it can damage battery life cycle and cause the fire. At last, almost electric car fire accidents(including hybrid) are using LFP battery. Belief is free, but Science doesn't change.
Having to look at that motor cycle screen, along with lack of button controls would drive me crazy. .Your report seemed to indicate a better driving experience in the Kona. BYD with its integrated headrest and lack of lumbar support sounds terrible for long trips. Kona is just too expensive . With the BYD , you get what you paid for. I've just read this morning the $$ prices have dropped significantly $ 44 plus on roads for the New Atto 3 . Also better tyres . Makes it a no brainer .
@@jxmai7687 I am sure he would be, but BYDs relative to other brands are well priced in Australia, it is all relative, that is what matters, paying a lot more for another car because you can buy an Atto in China a lot cheaper is a rediculous argument.

Coming from your previous byd ATTO 3 review video and you mentioned it is a Medium SUV in that video but are stating it is a Small SUV in this video? Which is it please? 😭
If you hit anything hard enough to damage the charge port you are not driving home in either car, long wheel base means front tyre damage, and or radiator damage.
@jimmyp1433 I remember Clarkson from Top Gear was testing the autonomous emergency braking on a Mazda. It literally hit the wall at least than 3mph and broke the radiator and rendered the car useless. All modern cars are extremely vulnerable at the front so it will make no difference where the charge port is. Bad location? Yes, but will have the same outcome, a completely un drivable car.
So I am going to go against the grain because everyone seems to be in support of your review. We bought the Kona premium over the Atto 3. Our opinion is it is nicer inside and out, nicer to drive and the one pedal drive (which you conveniently didn’t mention) in the Kona is just awesome. Also Kona has HUD and BYD does not. There are a lot of things you left out. It has better warranty, cheaper to service and local dealers. Also Hyundai to us is more trusted than something that has recently come in to Aus. Yes I do agree the price point is about $4k too high. But I reckon that’s Hyundai Aus ripping Aussies off because all the govt incentives cap off at $68k. So they have just made it that to reap some dollars back. However we novated leased the vehicle and saving is great. Makes it the same price as the Kona hybrid and it is a much better car to drive. BTW we have no rattles and the front charging port is not an issue. I don’t know why people are hung up on it. Just trying to knock the Kona down to meet your agenda. Yes it is not overall appealing being at the front, but it is very handy being at there front too. That’s my opinion and I’m sure people will want to disagree. Also I test drived the Toyota BZ4X and I actually think the Kona is nicer than it.

The Kona uses almost 10+ year old NCM6, not de facto industry standard NCM8/9. The Kona is after all an entry-level EV. LFP is also for entry-level, low-range EVs due to its low-energy density and weight -- and outcompetes against NCM6 in price.

LFP batteries are effective in lowering vehicle prices, but their physical energy density is inevitably low.

Here in Canada we have very expensive Tesla or ICE cars.
As a car reviewer, need to check the fact and study but you seems not...
correct!
NCM batteries are far more explosive. Your life is yours, anyway.
