The newer Kona models have throttle mapping and reduced torque from a stopped position. The older models would spin up the tires right away. Great for grins, hard on the pocketbook.

I've had my 2024 Kona EV SEL for 5 weeks. It is the mid-level trim but with the larger battery, light gray interior & the same color as the one featured in this video. Hyundai calls it Neoteric Yellow but in some lighting it reads more green than yellow. This would not have been my first color choice but the local dealership had just received it & made an error on the sticker price. Instead of on $7500 rebate, they listed two. For a new EV with loads of safety features, the color didn't matter for that price and the color has quickly grown on me. I'll never misplace it in a parking lot. Of course the Hyundai app allows for flashing the lights & horn if it gets lost.

And must learn to read other people movement instead of relying on their indicators. Must calculate your surrounding and always give you an ample space for errors. And must learn to control your car at all times. If you can't avoid an accident just because someone cut you off then that mean you put yourself in a pinch position.

Oh that'll still be the case for years to come, at least. EV adoption is still only just starting. It's actually crazy how early we still are in the EV transition in the grand scheme of things. The tech is still advancing rapidly and finding itself and the portion of how many people actually need, let alone want, to buy an EV are still in the single digits of the overall market. This is going to be a decade+ long era of transition. And millions of new people will be being on boarded throughout and learning the norms of the commonly compared specs and EV driver behaviors, the equivalents of which for gas cars are second nature to all via multiple decades of cars being largely unchanged on a core level.

Hate the Kiai / Hyundai new tail light locations which are set too low. Unless you are right behind the vehicle all others behind can not see the turn signals. The front and rear lights are going to be broken/scratched in parking lot abrasions (buggies and others backing into your vehicle). Instead of a scratched bumper you now need a $600 light bucket.

Not an excuse for the price difference but there are some advantages.
Kona charges at 100kw, OTA updates, more interior space, longer base warranty, more efficient at highway speeds, V2L, power liftgate.
