Also coming down from the tablelands, we were generated 12 km going down the hill which was quite cool! Love watching your videos they got me a specially excited for this trip and hiring this car😊.( Plus we haven’t paid a cent for fuel.)
LFP batteries are a boon. I have both the Atto 3 (standard range) and the Tesla M3 RWD. Charging both to 100% without fear of abusing the battery is a big deal when it comes to road trips.
Great video, actually you can sleep inside the car, just get a fitted inflatable bed suits the atto 3, push the front seat forward and flat the back seat. Use the outside intake air and you can sleep nice, even without sleeping bag. The aircon does not use much of power at all and it is really comfortable compare with tent.
Great video. I would highly recommend ABRP (a better route planner) which gives much better metrics for planning and live range estimates while you drive. We really need better destination chargers at snow resorts. Imagine how much time you would have saved if you could arrived at the top of the mountain nearly empty by just simply booking a powered parking spot. Then you could have left with 98% charge and topped up on the way down.
I swam to that island in the lake at night once, alone, in cold weather. Very brave of me. I always pat myself on the back for that. Sure, I had extreme muscle contractions when I got back, and would have died if I spent much longer in the water, but it's all part of being a brave, brave guy
@@fredsonpittsburg9073 If you're from the US I presume, then 51K AUD is equal to 34K USD. So probably similar price, maybe a bit cheaper over there. If the Atto 3 was around 65% of the price then I may have bought it but in Aus it's around 80% the cost of the model Y and imo the Tesla is easily worth more than that.
Interesting! Nice work and thanks for the great video, I appreciate the effort. Its good to see a comparison between this car and the MY standard range I decided on instead. I preordered the Atto 3 but switched after test driving the MY. In my experience with the Tesla I've gone to perisher a few times this year from northern Sydney and I only need to do the 1 stop in Canberra for around 20-25 minutes. Then I stay at a powered campsite at Kosciusko tourist Park and sleep in the MY on a fitted bed with my partner. On return we have full charge from the campsite so just the 1 stop at canberra for 20 mins. No need for a rooftop box in the Tesla. We even did the trip with 3 people this weekend plus boards inside the car no problem and stayed at a hotel in jindy. The staff were kind and let us charge there for free, they even provided an extension cable so we could power the car from the room itself. Obviously different price points, i know. But good to compare nonetheless. Maybe the atto 3 could do the single charge in Canberra if you didn't have a box on top?

Took my MY RWD to Perisher last year. Charged at Goulburn, Cooma on the way there, and Canberra, Goulburn on the way back. Canberra and Jindabyne really need more DCFC. Problem with going downhill from Perisher is that the battery is cold soaked so regen is limited and ABRP doesn't take that into consideration. My average before 1.2 update was 440km for every 100% . Then went for the very first service and they also updated software to which added Android auto and my average becomes 400 per 100%. Another update layer and byd fixed 12v battery drain but now just getting under 400 per charge.this new update not sure what it is for but my sunroof keeps closing every time I hit certain speed. So I can't even use it now. I love the fact that wind coming from the roof instead of side windows. Kinda defeat its purpose if it closes by itself on certain speed. We about to test the car again this weekend for a long drive to see if it affects the range. melbourne-ballarat took 40% off but ballarat-melbourne only 18% so I'm happy with that. Werribee-healesville took 35% via yarra range and healesville-werribee 25%. But melton-rosebud took a massive 42% via citylink-monash-eastlink. And another 53 return. Not sure why. Also could be heater on and heated seats on as well.
I checked the car today at the dealer very close to the place where I live and if you bring the front seat forward you get almost 1,9m. Now I'll make a plank of wood to fill the gap and it should be fine to sleep inside. The dealer said about camp mode: just leave the car turned on. It doesn't need much power. Next week I'll test it out 🙂@@juicdgarage

😂
Great Vid - my atto 3 ext seems to not get past 250km with or without roof add on on long distance … 😅
Hmm.. haven't actually tested the highway range but that seems very low.
@@juicdgaragetrue - will keep an eye out for a highway range test when you can 👍
Seems very low is that standard range one? You driving in sport mode everywhere?
Why not just sleep in the car ?
I actually did on my stop at Canberra, The stretcher in tent was more comfortable 😁
how long is the length you can lie down if you fold the seats?
@@CineMuck84 yes, I actually did that for a night... it's about 1.6m - 1.7m
Thanks for real world example. I'd sooner sleep in the car. A pity no heat pump. Alot of cabling. Seems like a hassle.
The range and planning for your trip is rediculous.
Just Read an Article - "Man forced to ditch Ford EV truck during family road trip to Chicago: ‘biggest scam of modern times’"
It's a Ford, they are all shit
RUclips recommended this video not really sure I would like to wait 1hr to charge my car when I can just put a full tank of fuel for 2 mins sorry but EV at the moment is not for me
Agree in some cases it may not make a lot of sense, especially what I did here in the video, but for what I use it for (daily commute and city driving) it makes perfect sense. In fact I even save myself the 2minutes because my car is being re-fuelld when not in use
@@juicdgarage totally agree i still believe we still have a long way to make EV the standard car but i can see good progress i will wait until then at the moment it doesn't make sense to me financially.
11:00 every time RUclipsrs do this I cringe so bad he obviously got in his car before to turn on the camera and acted he was surprised by the warm cabin.
Cool story bro.
What a generic 2015 design they made🙄🙄🙄
Still way better looking than fugly tesla.
Cool!! Is possible to sleep in the car overnight?
From Thailand
I don't see why not 😀
