  • The BYD Atto 3 boasts a massive range of over 400 kilometers on a single charge, so let's put it to the test. From Manila to La Union, can a fully electric vehicle go the distance and make it back? With charging stations and accommodations at strategic locations, it just might, or at least that's what Caco thinks. Will the crew make it? Will they run out of charge on the way? Find out on this AutoDeal special.

    EV chargers are somehow increasing throughout the country. If chargers were available down south, EVs buyers will definitely increase. Most of the EVs are tested only up north, in exception to Nissan Kicks that they drove from Manila to Misibis. Hope to see more EVs being driven to Quezon and Bicol, where roads are more challenging.

It is still kind of limited though and hassle na din diba kase if you are an EV owner, mas mainam kung may mga chargers na sa mga gas stations. One more thing, most of the travelers down south prefer to travel night time. If the only options are SM chargers, hindi na sila available after the mall hours. But for sure eventually magkakaroon yan. I just hope that won't take more years before it it could have. Sa bansa kase where I am now kahit maliliit na gasoline stations and R&Rs may mga EV chargers na. Very convenient talaga and you won't have the stress finding the plugs if you ran out of juice.

    It would be awesome if you will also use telemetry data (top speed, average speed, distance, total elevation gain) for both the EV and your backup car.

    I spend roughly p16k/ month on diesel. If i install at least a 7 kva solar system(without batteries ) at home, it would cost only p200-250k. Suppose I buy an EV, i would not spend a penny on fuelling the car. The ROI for the solar installation is less than 2 years. The price of an Atto is comparable to an ICE CUV. The blade battery of BYD is safe and lasts 8 tp 15 years (6,000 cycles)... Buying EV is a no brainer.

    Great video as always. I am confused on the math. If the BYD system is saying you have 47% battery left, that would be 28.2 kwh in the battery out of 60 kwh. But you used 41kWh, which leaves 19kWh, or 32% of the capacity. It could be the computer is giving an estimate based on driving history and conditions, or it could be the 47% figure spoken of was earlier in the video and by the time you were at Shell, it was actually less. Can you update on what the BYD computer said was the battery percentage left? Also, did it match the distance driven and the 41kWh you used? My guess is that is why the other owner was interested in your range.

    • @Le_Mon9
      @Le_Mon9 8 месяцев назад

      The difference in consumption between the silver atto3 and the test unit was due to driving style of the owner. Remember caco and team elft at 7am while the silver atto3 left at 9am. That's a two hour difference and they're at the shell recharging station at the same time. That means the owner of the silver one was heavy on the throttle.

    This was a fun little experiment. Although EVs can be cheaper than ICE vehicles when it comes to consumption costs, there is the often-overlooked factor of time. Sure, you can get marginally cheaper rates charging compared to fueling up, but the time it takes to top up a fuel tank is significantly faster than that of an EV battery. And to Caco's point, although you can charge at much slower rates to drive down the costs, know that this will result in even longer charging times so take all these things into consideration when planning road trips with EVs.

    This is a great Vlog. I found it really interesting and gave me an idea. Since, in a way.. a 1.5L SUV is kinda compared with than EV SUV and the cost per kilometer is way apart.. (EV 1Km+2.00php ++, ICE 1Km= 5.00php), proved the cost savings of an EV is way better than an ICE. But how about an EV vs a hybrid (Toyota’s hybrid tech and Nissans e power). Would it be possible to have a cost per kilometer comparo for these. And during this comparo, allow the EV to mostly be charged at a charging station and not at a home so as we can know the max costing. This can greatly help people decide either an EV or hybrid and give a chance for people who live in condos to have a better perspective if they can shift to an EV because they can have a ball park figure of the cost in charging. What do say Caco and Autodeal peeps? Would it be possible? Just a thought 😂

    You really didn’t test its range. At 47% charge left, you should’ve continued without recharging to find out how far the battery can take it. By my calculation, it consumes more in the highway and won’t be able to take you back and forth without recharging negating its 465km advertised range.
    Also, it showed that when traveling far, recharging costs more. Does fast charging cost ₱35 per kw in NCR?

    • @shinababes
      @shinababes 8 месяцев назад +1

      I don't think testing the range was the point of the video. It was trying to demonstrate a real life scenario of traveling on a EV with that kind of range, charging included

  • @christianbass10

    The calculations maybe inaccurate due to the fact that if you use a slower charger it would also take longer time for it to charge. Which means the slower charger in which according to sir Caco around 12 pesos will charger the vehicle longer than the fast charger.
    So, on a fast charger that costs php 35 pesos would charge 1 kwh in 5 mins for example the slower charger would do it 25mins for example so the cost goes up as well.
    The cost per KWH is actually really per kwh added to the battery but esssentially the time it takes to fill that 1 kwh.
    So a good solution is to install solar panels for your chargers with batteries to store the energy it gathered. But ofcors this means you will have to spend more at first.

    You saved roughly P2.50/km but how long did you stay at that gas station to fully charge that car? Filling up an ICE vehicle will take you less than 10min. Savings on money or savings on time?

    Question ❓
    Is it stll excepted from coding? O and by the way how about the maintenance?
    Is it cheaper or expensive? Like if your batteries are really down how can you fix.Or have someone fix fix it for you
    Same price lang ba sila.Or mas expensive?
    Ang mag paayos ng regular engine.Neither gas or diesel engins
    Compared sa ev engine?

    • @StarsStripes-vh7kw
      @StarsStripes-vh7kw 8 месяцев назад +1

      All full hybrids and BEVs are coding-exempted until 2030 in the PH. For maintenance, it is cheaper to maintain a BEV annually as you have fewer mechanical parts (no oil changes needed, etc.). However, when your BEV battery needs replacement, that will be costlier. For hybrids, it is more expensive in the long run as you technically need to maintain a gas engine and an electric motor with their batteries (well, depends on the brand and model). The environmental benefits of BEVs still cannot be ignored, especially if your city or town has clean energy sources.

    I wonder how the batteries hold after 5 yrs. Will they degrade fast just like phones? How much it cost to replace the batteries after it depleted.

    • @benzengap6804
      @benzengap6804 8 месяцев назад

      It depends on where and how you charge. The blade battery will not degrade suddenly as it only charges 80 kWh. Also, it is recommended for LFP batteries to charge 80-90% regularly and 100% every 2 weeks in order to calibrate the battery.

    Mga dating 300km range na EVs, a few short years after nasa 400 to 500km range na.
    Very sparse charging stations, now dumadami na.
    Hopefully magkaraoon naman ng improvements sa electricity grid. I saw Meralco is looking into micro-nuclear power plants was it? And there was some news as well on solar farms.
    Things are looking up for EVs.

    That's great, granted it doesn't spontaneously blow up under you. Isn't that what that brand is known for? How about degradation of the battery? How long until it degrades and loses charge capacity? Why does it regenerate when braking? What about using the turning wheels to bring back some juice while the car is going?

  • @laspinas1986
    @laspinas1986 8 месяцев назад +6

    See, this is the issue I have with EVs: Let's say a typical trip to La Union takes 4.5 hours. In the event that you need to juice up during your trip, that adds another good 60 minutes to your trip to add a fraction of percentage (via fast charging), that is if you get a charging slot immediately. What if there are more people lined up before you? Versus typical few minutes using ICE / Hybrid. Then once you get to your accommodation, another challenge is finding a charging port in the parking slot in a hotel, resort, or airbnb. And if you do find one, it wont be fast charging. So you need the entire night to charge up the car, again, if you find a charging slot in the parking. And if you do, will they even allow you. Such a hassle.
    Still, I'm positive about EVs even though we know theyre not environmentally friendly.

      Also, I would like to add that some EV Charging station/network like Shell Recharge (as of May 2024) forbids the use of adapters nor doesn’t offer other EV charging interfaces like NACS/Tesla, GB/T (where grey market EVs use), and J1772.
