If enough people say "what's one leaf?", it's no longer one leaf.

The second plant you showed where you cut the top off because it was stretching and didn't have many leaves - that happens when it isn't getting enough sunlight. Maybe but it outside. Other than that, great video
when I go to a nursery or Home Depot and there’s loose leaves in the pots of succulents, I take those. some people may think it’s stealing but I’ve asked the people and they have no problem with it. you could also look for sickly looking succulents at nurseries and they will probably be sold for extremely cheap then you can do this and make them the plant they were meant to be 🌱
a lot of times those leaves are just thrown away. at stores like Home Depot and Lowe's, they usually let you keep them if you ask since they get thrown away. Make sure if you get them at nurseries that you ask, since some nurseries reuse the fallen leaves to make more succulents
I'd also like to note, different succulents vary in the amount of time it takes to show signs of anything actually happening. The one plant I have would show roots within 3 days (usually) whereas the other species of succulent took weeks to show signs of roots
what one does it the quickest?

OF ALL THE VIDEOS THAT I WATCHED ABOUT SUCCULENTS, YOU'RE THE BEST!!!
Jordan, I just got a piece of Burro's Tail that had broken off. Watched 3 other videos on propagating succulents before I found your video. You had the best, clearest explanation of how to get the job done. Thank you!
+Linda Fiore wow what a compliment! Thank you! Good luck growing :)
I love propagating succulents. I have so many babies that have been growing for a few months now and they've been doing great!! I got into them quite a bit about a year ago and didn't know I was doing it first. Lol. I've been growing vegetables intensive other plants in my garden and inside for over 5 years now, so I knew I could get the hang of it. Once I did, they have been growing and so big for me!. Thank you for sharing the tips for a new people out there who need help in that are just starting out. I know a lot of people have problems with propagating as I did in the beginning but it's truly such an easy process and succulents are so easy to grow.
This video make me incredibly happy! I have a little guy that I've been babying along and I went to water it today and its not looking good, so I'm going to try my hand at propagating. I'm happy to know there is someone else out there who gets as happy as I do when taking care of and talking about my succulents and all my other plants that I have! Thanks for your enthusiasm :)
You are so fun! I love how you're just so excited about all these plants taking over your home, and they're all a bunch of a happy guys. The more the merrier. :)

That one you said isn't doing well & ready for propagation is actually doing fine, it's just "stretching" for light. Maybe try a different window & rotate it to get light evenly & the leaves with grow closer together. 👍🏼

Hey Jordan! I just found your channel and subscribed. I searched "how to plant propagated succulents" and this video was the first one to come up. I love this video however I have to disagree with something you said. You said that succulents don't die and we can't kill them.... something along those lines. I HIGHLY disagree (in a joking manner). I started getting into succulents and air plants a few years ago and I have killed many succulents in this time, I've killed air plants too. Either I watered too much, not enough, not enough sunlight or too much sunlight. 😔 I'd like to think that I've found the balance between water and light throughout my adventures and mass genocides of succulents. GREAT video and now I'm off to watch part 2! 🖒

Your plants are beautiful ❤️ I'm in the process of propagating my succulents now. Excited 😉
I had a beautiful succulent years ago that I cannot find again anywhere. I don't even remember it's specific name. It lasted me over a decade and grew so many "babies" that I started propagating and selling them. Then I got sick and couldn't take care of my plants that well anymore. I had 5 different containers with my favorite succulent and they all died. I never looked into how to properly propagate them before so I never knew they could grow from just the leaves (I thought it had to be from stems only) and I didn't know they had to be callused over when you do. Even though it's too late for that particular one, at least now I know all of this info for the new ones I've started growing. :)
5:27 "succulents don´t die guys", meanwhile I´m whatching this video because I´m pretty sure mine will die in a couple of days lol

every time I try to let the leaves dry out and callus over it ends up just rotting and dies completely

That may mean the end of the stem broke off, rather than pulled away fully/properly from the stem

Air drying is the best. Put your succulent leaves on a dry surface and keep it out of direct sunlight. Patience is virtue becausez it takes 1-2 or 3 weeks even a month.

Jordan Rosendale is the part 2 in this uploaded?
My mother leaves always dry out and die before the new plants are established
Totally love this vid & it’s not hella slow. Kinda funny & fun to watch. Thanks!
The jade leaf I found in my elephant bush just started growing roots after 3 weeks, I am so excited! I have it in a snapple cap and I mist it.
Can I freeze the leaves for later?
probably not, because this would damage the plant and most likely make them unusable. You may be able to put them in a ziplock bag and keep them out of direct sunlight. Tip, if moisture seems to form on the bag inside with the plant, don't panic. This is completely natural as long as there isn't too much, and isn't molding your plants.
Pls tell me abt the soil media
I use a 50% succulent and Cactus soil about 40% Coco Loco potting soil (which is really rich in organic compost in nutrients plants need to grow so I don't have to worry about fertilizer too much, I use the same Coco Loco potting soil, straight for my veggie garden and other house plants as well) and 10% perlite. Sometimes I use less coco loco potting soil and more perlite, but the same percentage of cactus soil. It depends what the plant needs and if it's susceptible to over-watering then I add more perlite.
wow, incredibly thorough and amazing video!!!! Thank you! I appreciate the time you took with the growth process as well as your editing skills. ..very talented and entertaining!!
+WetH20 thank you!
Love learning about succulents!
Hi there, I have a question. A couple days/weeks ago I removed part of a leaf of my Crassula arborescens subsp. undulatifolia because it was half-broken off. I left it on my balcony in sort of a bucket and discovered today that it is actually building out roots. Same with another partial leaf that had come off. Now is there any chance propagation will actually work with those partial leaves? I mean if they're building roots that must mean it is working, right?
+Svenja M. I'd say if it is growing roots then yes. But idk for sure. Just treat it as though it will work and see what happens :)
***** Okay, I'll report back! So far I've laid them flat on soil and I am spraying them (like you showed in the video) every day with a fine spray bottle. And several roots are shooting out. Wish me luck!
Hi there, a month ago I was asking about my partial leaves. Turns out all three are making a new plant! They're getting bigger and bigger and it's such a joy to see.
@@louibeans Thanks for the update! As you found out, yes, even damaged leaves can be propagated as long as there is no damage to the place where they were originally attached to the mama plant. I've grown a completely new plant from less than half of a leaf!
I am confused about what to do after you get tiny little plants growing out of the leaves? The first one I pulled off and planted in the soil by itself, but it doesn't seem to be growing so I think I killed it. Now I am trying to plant the roots of the baby plants in the soil while keeping the mother leaf attached, but that is awkward since the roots are growing in the air and the leaf is curled (making it difficult to get the roots in the soil). My third idea is to bury the mother leaf deep in the soil, keeping the attached baby plant above the soil with its roots in the soil. Any suggestions? Thanks
I'd like to see the answer to that question too
You have to wait for the leaf to shrivel up and die off. The baby plant is getting all the energy from the leaf till then. Don't worry too much about the roots. As long as the environment is not too dry or hot, the leaves get the moisture from the air and like I said, they get the nutrients from the leaf, they don't need soil till the leaf starts dying off.
@@jelatinosa You can wait for the mother leaf to shrivel up and die, but sometimes that never happens. I have many plants that I started by placing a single leaf in it's own pot and let grow and root itself naturally. It also helps to flip the leaf upside down the opposite way it was growing on the plant originally that way the roots are touching the soil and can grow down and the baby plant up.
To answer the original question:
Once you have a little pup and roots you can take that leaf and place it in a 2 in or larger starter pot (depending on leaf size) with the roots touching the dirt. I make sure the soil is just barely damp and don't water it for the first week. You can also let it continue to grow in the soil you placed it on originally and let it root naturally and then once the baby plant gets a bit bigger you just dig it up and transplant it into a pot. I use a plastic fork to carefully transplant my baby succ's and cactus once they have developed a strong root system. There are so many different ways to do this, these methods always work for me. Don't pluck the baby plant from the mama leaf though!
@@jamiefoley8756 that was my point, not to separate the baby from the the mother leaf. If she wants to get rid of the leaf she will have to wait for it to die off as it will eventually always do. It might take a while but, it will die off eventually.
Wow thanks. 😊 Yoir video is the only one that finally mdkes sense to me. I hesitantly bought a succulent from Walmart for $0.94 that had lost its root. It was just sitting on top of the soil. I was hoping I could bring it back to life. I knew about callusing it but couldn't remember how. Thank you for this clear demonstration. I'm now going to check out video #2.
Love this video! Good job! Thank you for helping me!💜
5:27 my die all the time...... cuz i freak out about watering. That's it.
Yep! Bought 3 succulents in a small mirror frame. Watered them once with a spray bottle forgot for 3 months. Then watered them too much once and when I checked a week later when I picket up the frame half the succulents fell apart lmao just saw this and am trying to Dave them
Silagane don’t spray them, use a squeeze bottle and water under the leaves on only the soil.
@@MimiTheHamster Hi thanks for the advice! Since my last comment litereally all of the seemingly dead leaves have very cute small new succulents! Its fantastic to watch and soo cute. i will try this from now on thank you! :)
I've been trying to propagate but I terribly fail. The roots grow I spray them everyday, have them in bright light but then they rot. The roots turn black and for from one day to another it dies. What can be going wrong😕
jazmine ramos try not spraying them or watering them at all for that matter. roots will grow if you don't water them. I've never sprayed my propegations and I have had the easiest time with them sprouting. Until they they grow a flower, replant and wait a little longer, then water
Also use filtered/distilled water.
The method I use is I don't spray any of my propagated succulent leaves until showing signs of roots, then you only want to spray maybe once every 4 days depending on how fast your soil dries out. Make sure you have drainage in all your containers and have a good Cactus potting soil mixture with perlite to ensure that soil doesn't stay wet for longer than a few days at a time. I let all my small succulents dry out and stay dry, completely, about two to three days between the waterings to ensure no rot sets in because it's kind of sensitive at the stage, but they do need more water than bigger establish succulents so it can be tricky. I would suggest just to get that soil moist on top until you show babies and then you can start soaking all the way through. But always let your succulents have a dry period for a few days in between waterings and you should have healthy beautiful succulents like I do!! 😉 Hope that helps!
Too much water
The excitement of this video is so fun to watch 😊😊🥺😊
