  • Here's an oldie, but a goodie! A great way to turn old records that nobody wants into cool retro and quite saleable bowls - using free heat from the sun! As a proponent of zero waste, I don't like the idea of using power to heat an oven or boil water for projects like this - so here's how to do it with no energy cost :)

It helps more than you know with the RUclips algorithm to increase my channel's exposure & growth.
Also, I now have an Amazon storefront where I share links to assorted tools & equipment I use and recommend. As well, I'll be adding links for various supplies and products used in my videos as time goes on. Even if you purchase something on Amazon totally unrelated after entering through one of my links, it really helps support my channel with a small commission.. and it costs you nothing extra at all! 😊👍

I'm doing it. I attach a single underneath in reverse as a stand. Connected with a biro lid as a plastic rivet

Great idea, and one I've been giving a try. My problem is that when placing the record over a bigger bowl to melt into, one side always seems to drop down before the other, creating a very weird and asymmetrical bowl. Any tips? I feel like I've tried everything, even made a cardboard/tinfoil solar oven to help spread heat more evenly.

I did have that problem a bit as well. I guess unless the sun is directly overhead the heating is a little uneven. I think I corrected the issue by rotating the record every so often..

There are loads of countries that don't have sunshine and long long cold days.. otherwise its brilliant if you live in a hot country

Yes, that's true! We have plenty of hot summer days in Australia, so may as make use of them!

Saying that I had to play at an openair event with no shelter, I placed the first record on the turntable waiting for the band to finish. As they were about to finish I changed my mind on the first selected record and went to change it for another one. I went to pick up off the platter and suddenly realised it was hot. The record was at a rIght angle with more paw print on it... That was an expensive £20 mistake! And that was a summer in Sidcup UK!!! hAHA ;)

Apparently highly toxic gases are released then heating them, even on very low temperatures. I'm starting a research on this topic - highly advise to anyone wanting to try this to leave it, as it is highly canceroganic.
If you really have to please do it outside, do NOT use your oven at home, cause those gases stick to the walls there and you don't want that on your food

I do agree that caution should be used when heating any unknown substance and outside is always the best method! Let us know your research results.. 👍

@@TheUltimateRecycler I will do my best to send it to all the DIY videos :) will take 2 months though, as i have other projects in the line. But this one is getting more and more important, as it connects with the daily use of plastic in basically everything that we use and eat ant the effects on our hormones. This is insane, almost unbelievable.

i would only do this with records that are unplayable. vinyle is coming back now and 78s will sell to the right people and at the right price. maybe take them to record fairs that deal with 78s

    • @TheUltimateRecycler

We get so many records and even though vinyl is coming back - it does depend a lot on the genre! There are many that won't sell - to anyone - ever! Thanks for watching 😊
