    Don't do this. Heating up PVC releases phosgene gas. Extremely toxic.

      Can you maybe provide reliable scientific sources? I'm trying to make research on this topic but can't seem to find understandable information about how much toxic cancer gases are released, and at what temperatures and so on. Highly appreciated :)

      For anyone like me that is thinking the same in the future. Honestly it's more than likely a "kiln" that would EVENLY heat the LP (without hitting the melting point obviously) for a longer period of time; you'd probably have it on a cone of sorts to let it fold IN to the bowl shape.
      You'd basically need a pre-heated press that could keep it at temp while it's being pressed slowly WITH gravity and the pressure somehow being even in a way that wouldn't warp the LP off of center/straight tear the hole off of center.
      tldr: ball and socket system hotter than gramps hip before the replacement surgery.

    Here's another great idea. If you have any records you don't care that much about and not going to play again, why not buy some clock making kits, records make great wall clocks. Or you could just pin the records to your wall, they are great for that as well if you want a room to have a musical nostalgic look. I've often been in charity shops and sometimes found records without sleeves. I'm thinking of picking some up and doing that actually.

      Not being sure if these were pure PVC and not knowing the impact of the black carbon - I don't recommend eating off them. Let alone the chemical altering process of melting them (and the label dyes etc....)

    its perfectly fine to make bowls from record. But never use a good record, look for ones that are heavily scratched or that have cracks and or warps already. Makes more sense than throwing them away as they are unplayable as they are. But never use playable records. Pro-tip? Hit a thrift store.

    I will never ruin one of my records by turning it into a bowl, besides making them from chocolate is a lot more fun when after everyone has eaten the contents you break a chunk off and eat it.

      That does sound interesting.

    • @Kenoscope
      @Kenoscope 6 лет назад +1

      Chocolate bowls are a heck of a lot easier to make and at a lower temperature. Basically you temper chocolate in a double broiler, then pour your chocolate into a metal bowl that is sitting in an ice bath. Swirl it about until it has thickened to what you want, pour off the extra and let cool to room temp. Pop out of the metal bowl and fill with oh, cheese puffs, small candy bars, popcorn etc. When it is empty surprise your family/guests by popping off a chunk and eating it.
      Cleanup on isle three... never mind.
