    I am in Mindanao now. Most everywhere I go, I rarely see a foreigner. I am sitting in the airport in Butuan with a couple hundred filipinos. I intentionally avoid places that might have a lot of foreigners. I came here for filipino culture. Not to see more people like me.

    • @itsManilaBaybee

      I get that, I was like that when I first came here. Mindanao (for the most part) is on the American embassy list as a do not travel zone. In May 2024 they downgraded the warning from level 3 to 2, but that's another reason you don't see many foreigners there. U.S. insurance (including life) is null and void In embassy red flag zones.

      I feel the same. When we're home in my wife's small town in Sorsogon I'm usually the only foreigner around unless my wife's cousins husband is in town. Or some random European happens through.

    The Fort :) I remember 20+ years ago when I first started going to the Philippines there was no BGC it was a big open space with 2 condo buildings in the making . I have travelled to just about every part of the Philippines and its all good , I do personally love the province for living , to be in the bubble as you call it is only good for so long , but if you are thinking of retiring to the Philippines you need to see it all and it fun travelling .

      I absolutely, totally, 100% agree. The bubble is tiny, and it's sterile. The only reason I lasted in the staycation vibe zone for 3+ years was Corporate BPO [and lockdown]. It's a beautiful little city, but give me province beach lifestyle.... Simple, but healthy and chill. Work still keeps me in the metro, but just outside the bubble. Maybe I should make a video about that?

    How are you going to meet new people if you stay inside the bubble? How will you build your social circle on transients? I we would rather get a place without the gym and go to local gyms or resorts. This way it forces you to explore and find restaurants, stores, markets and local entertainment which you won't find if you're staying in the condo bubble. Just a thought. If I'm incorrect, tell me why.

    • @itsManilaBaybee
      @itsManilaBaybee  7 месяцев назад +1

      The bubble is the city, it's a magnet for thousands of expats. And it has areas that cater to them so it's very easy to meet other foreigners in the bars and restaurants. There aren't really any resorts in the cities. And some expats still do prefer to go to a local gym, but more so to meet local women. The bubble isn't necessarily your condo building. Although some of them do have their own restaurants and shopping, It's the entire micro city (BGC, Century City, Rockwell, Eastwood City, New Coast...etc) that is the bubble.

I'm glad that you mention vetting, and if you want to do a real service for guys maybe coming to the Phils, you might consider an entire 5 minute segment of vetting a potential "wife" in the Phils. I started my journey in 1997. I married a filipina and actually vetted her pretty WELL, but she turned out to be a nutjob and we divorced 21 years ago. I got got custody of our child which actually tells you all you need to know about her. Anyway, I have been back and forth too many dozens of times, before smart phones and internet was nothing like it is today. I owned businesses in the Phils, absolutely bizarre experiences although i did manage to make tons of money. I am now married 15 years to another filipina who is the most awesome women i ever met. I have 100s of strange stories of my involement in the incredible 3rd world country called the Philippines. Keep up the good work.

Situations vary on both sides. I primarily address that personally through consultations. The livestream gives enough basic insight for guys to understand I'll make sure they get set up straight. Business and work is bizarre, it's been a love hate thing for me over the years. And life before smart phones was much better here. When I first came to Manila in 2012 most Filipinas preferred clean shaven. But in the last 5 years the beard has been very desirable. I find many Filipinas love it. I think part of the reason for that is the Netflix and American film influence. Back in the day there wasn't a lot of those films and shows accessible here, but now shows like Vikings, Marvel films, and others have popularized the look. it's also a hallmark. of what they describe as "macho" here. A masculine trait that many Pinay desire.

    • @itsManilaBaybee
      @itsManilaBaybee  4 месяца назад

      Yes, and then again maybe no. BGC is very small and it's great for dining, walking, chilling, and to some degree shopping - But it's not a big party city. It is however 10 minutes from Poblacion Makati which is a party nightlife scene. There is no real nature vibe in the NCR. But you can easily get a day tour or a quick domestic flight to amazing nature spots in the Philippines. Pattaya you have a beach option, in BGC, you won't. BKK will have multiple high end sky bars, and Michelin star restaurants, BGC/Makati won't. Thai food is amazing, that's hard to beat. Thailand has legal cannabis. I'm not sure what type of fishing you are doing, but if you want to catch English speaking fish - Then the Philippines has BKK beat. Almost no language barrier here. BGC is cleaner/newer than BKK, but Poblacion isn't.

    It’s very interesting that with the horrible logjam traffic in Manila you hardly ever see anyone on a bicycle. The government should furnish free bike share in the city. Could make a huge impact on pollution and congestion if the culture will accept it.

    • @itsManilaBaybee
      @itsManilaBaybee  6 месяцев назад +1

      Good idea! There are a lot of biker only lanes all throughout the cities. (Usually filled with motorcycles) But a hallmark of the policies here is that everything has a fee. Even free programs are, at some level, tax funded in most countries. So nothing is ever really free in most of society. Instead, they don't let you drive your car certain days of the week, depending on your license plate number. (So people get a 2nd vehicle)

    I met a guy in Key West who at 60 was going through a divorce. He was from Tampa, FL but said he was moving to the Philippines. He said his wife was getting the house and the business and he was getting out. He said he had a 19 year old girlfriend there and that for $2K a month, you could live like a king. He kept telling me I should go. It's funny, a lot of what you talked up, is stuff I am not interested in. I read a lot of articles on places to retire around the world and more than 90% of the things that are mentioned in the articles that are considered selling points, don't interest or apply to me. I do have a scuba diving buddy who went there to get certified as a divemaster and is pretty sure he is going to stay. He said you can live really cheaply and has found a girlfriend. Another friend who lives in Texas is married to a woman from there and he says he will probably retire in the Philippines.
