    Thanks for the info, got my letter 9-30, took the bike in 10-1. I was advised that it was fine, there was no repair needed and hopefully they installed the Zip tie, lol. Yes I could have done it but I wanted it on record at Harley, in case I have problems down the road.

    Thanks for another great video! I had the recall done last Wednesday (dealer did not even know about it yet). And even though I installed the Trashin' skid plate two months ago, there was already some slight rubbing visible on the harness. So apart from the extra zip tie they also added some extra wiring tube around the wiring part that was touching the engine case. No troubles yet, so I think problem fixed. A small issue but with huge risks....

    The recall kit isn’t the zip tie it’s a kit to repair harnesses that have chafing. Which, I would think that if the wiring actually chafed and grounded to the engine case, you would possibly have other damage.

  • @freebehindbars8654
    @freebehindbars8654 Месяц назад +5

    Surprised Harley actually recalled a faulty design. I was one of the 100’s of thousands that bought a 2017-early 2019 Touring model with a bad oil pump/cam plate design. Motors were sumping, causing damage in all, some to the point of failure. Not one touring model went unaffected, even if you never felt/saw a symptom. Owners had to go to HD or the aftermarket to correct a bad HD design.

  • @asoshkin
    @asoshkin Месяц назад +3

    Zip tie is not the recall it’s from preventing damage. The part that Harley is talking about is a new piece of wire with a connector that is longer than the original which has to be cut and removed and soldered back in with new one. If they changed your wire harness which is probably the same as the original one. Chances are that you still might have the same issue of that red wire being short and rubbing. You might need the new piece of wire kit. My CVO ST doesn’t rub but Harley is going to replace it with new wire as that wire is very short and not enough play to zip tie it without risk of unplugging or damaging the wire.

    • @OffWeekGarage
      @OffWeekGarage  Месяц назад +4

      Interesting! I’ve spoken to multiple folks who have had their’s done already, they say the repair, if no chafing in the wire, is just the zip tie. They are only replace the wire if it is already damaged.

    • @asoshkin
      @asoshkin Месяц назад +4

      @@OffWeekGarage Sorry if you misunderstood. Yes they will replace that particular wire if it’s getting damaged with a different longer one. but in my case for some reason even though the wire is not damaged they didn’t want to zip tie it because they think that it could potentially get unplugged or damaged that way.

In the meantime looking for a third bike . I’m beginning to seriously doubt that Harley‘s gonna be selected. Been looking at the new BMW RK 18 transcontinental. I’d like to get some thing I can drive from state to state, but I cannot afford to be stuck on the side of the road, looking for a bag of zip ties to fix the problem.

    • @OffWeekGarage
      @OffWeekGarage  Месяц назад +5

      @@grgygantz6760 this is a regular occurrence with all manufacturers whether power sports, automotive, etc. First year models have these kinks that aren’t found during presale testing, they get ironed out and they are a damn good motorcycle after that. We saw the same with the Rushmore style RG’s. I enjoy sharing all that goes on with my bike but my intent is NOT to dissuade anyone from buying one of these new bikes. I have a 2024 harley street bob that I bought in july. And it randomly shut off on me. Twice! I took it to the dealership, they finally got it figured out. I'm not sure if the recall is how they fixed it or if they just found the problem, but they just said that it was a continuity break between the voltage regulator and the battery. • @OffWeekGarage
      @OffWeekGarage  Месяц назад +3

      Yes, only 9 field reports from Harley service dept’s sending them off to Corporate. But, vibration is the biggest killer of electrical components in applications like this, so I think with time and the issue unsolved, the number of field reports would go up, so I recommend to everyone to give it a once over!

Bike ran fine today for almost 100 mile ride. Just curious if this was the start of the current recall you're talking about. Thanks!

    • @OffWeekGarage
      @OffWeekGarage  Месяц назад +2

      I got the triangle light, but mine showed up as a cam sensor failure code, that was due to the misfire caused by the short to ground, not an actual issue with the cam sensor or cam sensor wiring. The cam sensor was reading correctly, seeing the irregularity in running parameters due to what was going on with the bike dying/shutting off or misfiring.
