Makes one appreciate the era of carburetors, points, no computers. Hearing a lot of stories like this for many new vehicles. We're supposed to be going forwards technically but in many ways it's the opposite. Fifty years from now you probably couldn't restore one of these new bikes. Too many chips and code lost to time.
I mean... if you want archaic, outdated, slow and sketchy bikes, sure, go ahead and run back to carbs and spring forks. If you want something fast, safe, comfortable, it's just a matter of not using cheap electronics and components. Clearly Harley Davidson is trying to build all of these newer bikes like they are Chinese scooters of yesteryear; cheap electronics, cheap mechanical components, pass the failures onto the consumer. Harley Davidson has had its prime time in the past, and the throne has long since disintegrated to the dirt they're rolling around in right now.
@@Bacon676 If you want something that you're mostly helpless to work on in the middle of nowhere because it's full of chips and code likely written by nerds who've never ridden a motorcycle, run to everything futuristic and scoff at everything from the past. Btw; I was riding fast, comfortable motorcycles clear back in the 70's. Thousands of miles that I wouldn't trade for anything. Fast and comfortable isn't a new phenomenon unless one is young and just doesn't know.

I have a 24 CVO RG and I put a full header on it with wide band sensors and the HD auto tuner. Took it across the country from Idaho to Florida over 2 weeks 5200 miles. Bike is currently at 6400 miles with no major issues. My windshield delaminated but was replaced under warranty. I did get the regular check engine light on while riding through Wyoming but it ran fine then went off as I crossed into Colorado so I joke that my bike just doesn't like Wyoming air. Great video, here is hoping I have no major issues. Wish HD did more than 2 years on factory warranty but is what it is. One thing I will say, for some reason 24 CVOs have to be taken into the dealer to have the Screaming eagle tuner tune loaded... I tried everything with it including getting the USB to PC cable but it just throws a "headlight failed to turn off error". Talked to HD support on phone for 2hrs and they said I had to take it to dealer bc they have to plug into the mainframe diag machine and upload a special file. Needless to say that was a bit infuriating being the tuner states that you can use it at home with your smart phone. End of day the wide band tuner is on, and HD loaded the stock map with the screaming eagle tuner for me.
Ahh...the cam shaft sensor code. I spent 3 months trying to fix this particular code....1 year ago...on a 6 month old Pan America. They were down to swapping out the engine control wiring harness and it was going to be months before the replacement came in. No guarantee that would fix it. A the same time the clutch gave out on my 2023 Street Glide. "2 bikes and $80k and I'm not riding?" I gave up and traded out of HD.
Very informative, I own a 2024 RG, still riding the break in miles, so far so good, this video is the first I’ve seen regarding diagnosis of an electrical issue, thanks. Warranties are worth the money on all new changes of a product
I had something similar with those lights coming on and staying on. They told me i kept popping fuses. They had to call corporate. They got the lights off and no problems since.
I’ve got a 2004 sportster I purchased new. I take good care of it and am happy to say it has never left me stranded. I’ve looked at new bikes….but this bike is easy to work on and maintain myself. Hope things get better with your new bike.
22:12 you paid tor an extea warranty? With that low mileage and being a 2024 even if it was a private party wouldnt you be covered or is it over a year.
I didn’t pay for extra warranty, the dealer I purchased the bike from gives a lifetime powertrain warranty, and then the standard 2 year electrical warranty
Thank god I came across this bike. I am planning a tour around America. Like a 2 month tour. NY to Denver to Etes Park to Texas pretty much all over. Have to figure out the route. But I’m buying a BMW touring or a Honda Goldwing - any ideas guys ?
I had to get a whole new Wiring harness under warranty, and did not ride the Bike for a Couple of Months. The wiring harness Melted on my 23.5 CVO Street Glide

It seems like every time I ride my 2024 Road Glide the yellow triangle light comes on. As soon as I turn the bike off the light goes out. When I power on the bike to see the DTC codes it tells me 0 codes.
Similar experience riding to Sturgis with my son in 2015. Road Glide broke down at US/Canada border in New York. Had to get tow to Watertown Harley. They were great and replaced crank position sensor and put a new starter in it. We were on our way next afternoon and no more issues for rest of 3000 mile trip.
July 10 Yellow triangle light outside of Flagstaff came on, went off. Kept riding, came back on then turned red. Headed back to Flagstaff, voltmeter dropping quickly bike died. 10.5 hours waiting for tow to Bellemont HD in 108 degrees on I40, next morning diagnosed dead battery, replaced it and faulty amp, was left with blown fuse in so not drawing power(no replacement part available. Left dealership, all covered under warranty. Made it to Needles, California that night. Next morning, July 12, triangle yellow light came back on. $1600 to get towed to Vegas, Red Rock HD where the charged the battery, replaced regulator and amp with new parts from a bike in stock, they were awesome! Finished route 66 and back up to Manitoba, Canada with no further problems. Glad your problem was resolved.

Did 1129 miles one day. Never an issue. I did however manage the service department at a Harley dealership at one time. Maybe that’s got something to do with my current preferences.
Bad gas ,water in the gas. The fuel tank is small so it doesn't take much, did you run super low on fuel? I would put some starbrite star tron fuel treatment in the tank put a little extra then add some new fuel to mix it up, pluse clear the code ,then ride, it get better the more you rude and should be good in 15miles
Newer Harleys doing a great job of helping raise the value of older Harleys. Or even other Brands...My 2012 Victory Cross Country broke a clutch cable which I was able to fix on the side of the road with a trip to the hardware store. My vacation would have been ruined if I needed to waste time at a dealership. More locked down computers increase that possibility if you cannot fix it yourself.
Can you go to your diagnostics page, reset the code, then turn the bike off. And walk a few feet away to get your fob away from the bike for a few minutes. Then when you go back to the bike start it. Might have to reset codes a second time. Also, the traction control light flashes until you hit 5 mph

Hi, I was riding with Adam the first few days of the Convoy, and he had no issues with the bike. I note that he did do several modifications to the bike and dropped some weight off of it.
Just finished your video, I have done IT wiring in the past. A tone generator clipped to the sensor wires WILL show you where the fault to ground is when you move the sensor wand along the harness. It's a $100 tool. It amazes me that they don't know how to do that.

All breeds of motorcycles have their inherent issues. It’s just that there’s more Harleys on the road in the USA so it’s going to be higher profile. Yamaha had ground spider corrosion issues. BMW has electrical issues and the old R1150RT had a transmission input shaft that was stupidly too short and would sheer off the splines. There’s other examples but I made my point
@@patcady310 That's not true. There are plenty of Goldwings on the road, and you never hear about issues from them. I have a Yamaha Roadstar 1700. There are some with over 150,000 miles with nothing but oil, tires, spark plugs, and brakes. Victory and Indian are both more reliable, same with the Honda VTX series. Harley riders even tell you, "Don't get one if you're not mechanically inclined. Their manual even says their bikes are "supposed" to burn oil. There are multiple videos on youtube of people with major electrical issues with the 2024 models and getting the runaround from the dealership.
Hey Brother, you might want to see if your bike has ground wire going to the frame. I had that problem but the Harley Tech caught it early and Tac welded it.
I have the 24 SG and I feel the same way as you about this being the better HD I have had....not the best.....but better! My bike had an issue with being able to accept updates and it took them a week to find out it was a loose wire. It would not impact the bike operation but you never know when a ECM/BCM will go south. I am really happy with the heat disbursement on the engine right side.....I am in the Houston metro and early in the morning I was out and about. The temps got up to feels like 92 degrees really quick. I do not feel like my right leg is cooking like I did with my 09 Ultra! Great videos by the way.....got any good install videos coming up?
Pan America owners have had the same issues. Entire wiring harnesses being replaced. That's crazy. I have not had any major issuers but having a bike not be reliable on a trip is not a good feeling.. Great video glad you made it home. Should have called HOG. Its a new bike and you have a membership. Its suppose to be free towing.
I would agree, all new vehicles with all emissions and electronics......buy the warrantee after factory ends.....USAA sells aftermarket for cheaper than dealership 👍
I remember all the Harleys parked along the Autobahn and Autoroute when my girlfriend and I went to Monaco and Italy on my two stroke GT550 in the late seventies and early eighties. I did not see any this summer, but maybe they are coming back soon?
I’m in the same boat, black on black 24 RG had the bike a month, less than 500miles on it and I’m experiencing similar bugs. Had the bike towed with *paper tags* still on it a week ago.🫤 Talked to tech yesterday and he said same thing, they’re going to warranty an entire new harness. Be watching for update. Definitely lost confidence, but your video gives me hope. Hope it holds 🤞 Thx man 🤙

The cam sensor seems to be an issue on the new bikes. My coworker has a new road glide just like yours, about the same mileage and it's gone out twice so far.
I got 8300 miles on my 2024 road glide. So far so good either way electric issues. Did have a small oil leak around 3500 miles. Rear tire went balled after 3000 miles and warranty covered new rear tire and rear barring they said was shot. Thank god for warranty!
I very nearly brought the new street glide but ended buying the new triumph rocket storm...from reviews and feedback on both bikes I'm happy with my choice..both great bikes but the rocket is insane..😎
After decades of various Harleys I made the switch and bought a BMW 1250RT. I just couldn't bring myself to pay close to £27k (UK pounds) for a Road Glide knowing I would have to add a stage 2, sissy bar and top box etc etc. The BMW is awesome having just returned from touring in France. The bike didn't miss a beat and the tech leaves Harley in the dark ages. It was an emotional switch but glad I did it.
I was really considering upgrading to the 24’ from my 23’. Seen too many videos of them throwing codes and stranding riders. This must be the 25th video. Wish you luck out there bro, but it wont be me upgrading. M8 for me!
That's why in 2023, I chose to ride a bike rather then a computer. I chose one that has a hi tech v-twin engine but NO computer beside the ECU. And since I'm not in Californication, nor in Cacanada. I don't eve have oxygene sensors to fail. Didn't have a single peep in 18 months and 12k miles.

More hints from the last vid, and I see some gold sticking out by the bags. Waiting for the release of the 2024 "O" mounts to get the same set up on the rear. Glad it worked out, looking forward to the next vid as I have doubts about my shady purchase dealer can/will fix any issues that come up with my 24 SG (got several dealers to choose from at least).
Good catch on the suspension!! That’s coming up after my next video on the dealer service dept experience, I will not go back there for service which I try to avoid all dealers for to begin with 😅
Great video! I’m glad you were patient and allowed Harley to make it right instead of trashing them and saying you’re going to buy a Fn Honda like the current trend. 💯
You mean like the '98 Honda Shadow 1100 ACE that is nearly spotless, that I paid $1.00 for,.....that I pulled, rebuilt, rejected the carbs,....cleaned the fuel tank, replaced fork seals and battery on and ride every day without any fear of the thing quitting on me out in the boonies.......that Fn Honda? I would proudly push my Fn Honda around the county before I'd pay $30,000 for one of those overweight midlife crisis.
My sister's Jeep Compass had a weird electric issue. Turns out Chrysler knew about it but wouldn't warranty it because it was supposed to be fixed on her years model. Well, it was just the cam sensor that went bad, AND the little wiring harness to the cam. I modified the wiring and no issues since.
Google got me on those man!! They’re not genuine Harley, genuine Harley hats pretty much all suck, so I went with what I like, just type in Harley Davidson trucker hat on google and some of these will pop up in all sorts of different options!
#1…what happens after you ride another 4K miles? #2. i’d ask for the original wiring harness….so you can trace the wiring failure in it. #3. i’d still install a small heat shield to protect the cam shaft sensor.

Spot on, the new bikes are meant to be thrown out and not rebuilt like the old stuff. Our throw away society.....
I mean... if you want archaic, outdated, slow and sketchy bikes, sure, go ahead and run back to carbs and spring forks.
Nothing aggravates me more than the parts cannon, fire parts at a problem until the problem goes away, that’s not diagnostics at all.
Seriously, I understand why Harley makes that call after a few hours, but it’s like watching a movie and turning it off right before everything unfolds. I’m an engineer, I want to know exactly what happened..

Interesting, did they ever say what they had to do to make it right?!

My 2017 has been dead nuts reliable, never once left me stranded despite all the early M8 concerns.
My 2020 has also been reliable for 17k miles so far. The first battery I had in it even lasted 4 years before it started acting up
I also have a 2017 SGS with absolutely zero problems except for an oil transfer to primary which was solved by me with HD venting hose. Pretty reliable and fun to ride.

Can you see what codes the yellow triangle light comes on for? Mine triangle light comes on but not my engine light. When I power on the bike to see the DTC codes it tells me 0 codes.
Similar experience riding to Sturgis with my son in 2015. Road Glide broke down at US/Canada border in New York. Had to get tow to Watertown Harley. I have an old 06 goldwing gl1800 with 30 something thousand miles on it that sits out in the garage. I change the oil about once a year and just ride the heck out of it every chance I get. Did 1129 miles one day. Never an issue. I did however manage the service department at a Harley dealership at one time. Maybe that’s got something to do with my current preferences.
I knew VVT was a bad idea for HD. It took them how long to get the oil pump right on the M8? Now add this system?
Bad gas ,water in the gas. The fuel tank is small so it doesn't take much, did you run super low on fuel? I would put some starbrite star tron fuel treatment in the tank put a little extra then add some new fuel to mix it up, pluse clear the code ,then ride, it get better the more you rude and should be good in 15miles
I haven't finished the video, but clearing the code would of been the first thing to try and see if it comes back.

It's a computer on wheels, what did you expect. My 1989 FXRS has never left me stranded. It does shake, but Harleys are supposed to do that.
I’m seeing many used 2024 touring model Harley’s for sale online. Wonder why?
With all the motorcycles that exist, I am dumbfounded that people still buy Harleys.
What's crazier is they are threatening to boycott Harley because of the CEO supporting LGBT and DEI, but they never thought of boycotting due to unreliable overpriced products.
u dont ride a harley davidson.....if you dont ride a harley davidson.....the name is a prestige.......nice prestige when youre stuck on the side of the road

Victory and Indian are both more reliable, same with the Honda VTX series. Harley riders even tell you, "Don't get one if you're not mechanically inclined.
