Pita Wrap: Leashes Unleashed

I expect this one is going to wrankle some feathers. I get lots of comments about how “irresponsible” it is to show videos wherein I’m not wearing a leash. So I thought that the issue of wearing leashes deserves a video all to itself!
Here are some of the main points I make in the video:
00:37 training without a leash in very, very small waves when no one is out can be productive
00:54 leashes are not 100% positive, “goods in themselves” - people can abuse their leashes
1:49 non-expert surfers surfing around people in general ought to wear leashes
1:54 it is only ok for expert surfers with masterful board control to not wear leashes in certain conditions when others are out
2:24 most experts wear leashes when they need to
3:00 not wearing a leash as a “fashion trend” is not cool - the absence of the leash doesn’t make you a better surfer
3:33 the reason why any expert would ever not wear a leash: a more free relationship to yourself and the surfboard which comes back down to supreme board control
4:43 the ability to surf small, inconsequential waves without a leash is an achievement and an accomplishment
5:32 again, wearing a leash does not stop your board from hitting people, at all
5:48 a provocation to the moral police in surfing - let’s see what grounds your metaphysics!
And that does it! I know this video will not be the last word on the wearing or not wearing of leashes, but I thought I’d share my own philosophy.
