Here is a video on my 2002 Camaro SS running the 1/4 mile.

#1 suspension mod to a 4th gen F body should be subframe connectors and bigger sway bars. Just stiffening everything up underneath makes a huge difference even before touching shocks
You are absolutely right. As far as shocks verses sway bars this video is 1/4 mile biased so that's why I mentioned adjustable shocks. Thanks for commenting we like to get everyone's opinions and experiences with modifing these cars.
@LSx Motorsports ah gotcha. Then instead of sway bars, get a stiffer panhard bar. Car will stick a lot better at launch
I am sure there are also guys watching this that are also interested in good handling so you're first comment is on the money.Sway bar upgrade can really help cornering and subframe connectors help both handling and traction. And yes upgrading the panhard bar is also good for both.
@@LSxMotorsports2021what'd be the upgrade for panhard? 4 link?
This. I ended up doing full UMI setup and Viking Coil Overs. Car hooks way better and handles like a race car. My 98 has 178k miles on everything and is very fast with just the suspension, free air mod cat back and tune. Will be doing rear end and trans next then motor.
You are so in love with your car ❤️ lol super dedicated and loyalist …specified CAMARO .. take his words he is into it ❤️😊 you did great job all the time!
A decent cam, 243 heads and an LS6 intake coupled with the standard bolt ons to this day is still a fine budget N/A street combo. If you can hook that up consistently you'll surprise more than a few people light to light.
Yes I absolutely agree. These cars are great for someone on a budget.
I did this and love it. BTR Stage 3 and ported 243s
Just came across your site . I like your video . Straight to the point, and lots of great information. You gained a new subscriber! 👍🏻Plus it’s cool your from 🇨🇦
Awesome glad you found us.We are a pretty small channel. Thanks for subscribing and leaving a comment we really appreciate.
great video. Good information!
Thanks.
Great video man 👍
Thanks.I wouldn't call it great but I would say it is an improvement.
Great video Corey! You giving away a lot of good info! The weather slowly getting warmer for us 😎
Thanks.Yeah be glad when we get this snow gone so we can make better videos.
I found Continental Contact tires best for summer , enough grip and you can control when they let go. Also quiet and softer riding than Goodrich
All sound advice and recommendations!
Thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.
great vid, working on my first build a 97 z28 ss, putting a rebuilt ls1 in
Thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.The LS1 is a great engine for sure but the LT1 is also a great engine.Good luck on your engine swap and let us know how it goes.
@@LSxMotorsports2021Thanks! I managed to get the ls1 for a steal from my neighbor, couldn’t pass it up
Great video!
Thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.
Great video and I'm glad I stumbled upon it. I just acquired a 98 Z28 6 speed with 7,500 original miles. I've been all over the place trying to figure out what I want to do to it so this video was very helpful and even brought up some things I was looking into. I'm looking towards street instead of drag since the car will be somewhat of a daily driver. Anyway... great video.
Thanks alot we really appreciate it.A 98 with 7500 miles that's awesome.Thats practically a new car congratulations and thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.It lets us know someone is watching.
@@LSxMotorsports2021 not a problem. The car was garage kept and is in practically mint condition. The only problem so far is that I have to drop the transmission and have it worked on but it is what it is. Not sure if the previous owner didn't know how to drive a stick or if just sitting around all these years did something to it. It's all part of the fun I guess.
For sure.Still a great find. These cars are getting pretty beat up so finding one like that is very rare these days.
My 98 has 101k buts she's clean!!!!
That's great. These cars if cared for can last for many many miles. Thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.
Solid advice! I'm on my 3rd 4th gen now, I've done most of the things you talked about. First mods were slp airlid and loudmouth exhaust, then Kooks long tubes. Then I installed a Tick stage 2 street heat cam and had my 243's ported. With a tune it made 431hp and 398lb ft of torque. One other mod I would definitely recommend (especially for t-top cars) is weld in sub frame connectors. Along with a strut tower brace it's like night and day as far as chassis flex is concerned.
Thanks for watching. You got a good working car.I got the subframe connectors and strut tower brace on mine. They definitely helped but mine are bolt on.The weld in ones are the best way to go for sure.
431 to the wheels? I made 410 on mine with ported 243's 228r cam. Lt's, lid...
Those are good numbers too.I definitely need a good set of ported heads for mine.
Dude if you don’t mind, please make some videos of your car. I saw it in you profile pic and it’s absolutely gorgeous
Good mod list, good set of drag radials and a good converter can get you real close to high 11s without having the heads, cam, intake done yet.
I agree.I try to always tell people not to follow my build. In the beginning I had no interest in 1/4 mile times. That changed when I started this channel. Also thanks for watching and commenting.Nice to know someone is watching :)
@@LSxMotorsports2021 of course. I just got a built trans so nice to be on the road again the way its supposed to be.
@@lifebringsus4393 What do you have for a car?
@@LSxMotorsports2021 2000 camaro, I have a few vids on the channel.
Oh cool I will go take a look.
Very helpful & informative video
I acquired a high mileage auto 98 z28 all stock just wanted it running been at the shop had a transmission rebuild but still having a turn key click problem but they said it ran after putting it back together trynna figure out what i can do before i go into modifications & ls swap
It won't start as in will not turn over?
I did a street daily driver budget build on my 99 trans am im at sea level in south texas, any ways stock car ran a 13.99@100mph was a 2.73gear car, already had ram air box and exhaust cut out before the axcel. Added 3.23 gears dropped to 13.6, added a circle d 3200 budget torque converter was an 11in basically modified tbss and dropped to 13.3. Then added cam and long tube headers with tune and dropped to 12.67 cam was a comp xer 224/230 .581/.588 on a 114 lsa car drove like stock and could barely hear the cam, then added ls6 intake and dropped to 12.47 then added 799 heads and dropped to 12.20@112 never retuned it for the other mods this was my daily driver until i bought a 5th gen camaro then i went more serious in the car and im running 11.17@119 now with bigger cam and a 4k stall and 3.73 tbss truck intake and 95mm throtle body and suspension work. Oh and dont buy yank torque converters I recently had a bad experience very bad customer service if you are looking for a torque converter go circle D you wont regret it
Your 4th gen sounds very similar to my 4th gen.Your 5th Gen sounds like a real beast.Very good advice for the budget minded 4 th Gen owners.Actually pretty funny you mentioned a Reworked Trail boss torque converter because I just purchased one recently. Thanks for watching and commenting and I agree with your recommendations considering your build on the 4th Gen is almost identical to mine.
I have a 99 base manual, I added poly bushings on the rear sway bar and made a load of difference on turns, and added rear air suspension
Yeah there is a ton of parts available for these cars. You can make them into pretty much whatever you want.
Yup mine like almost a foot off the ground lol I go over speed bumps like nothing
Yeah they look great when they are lowered but it can be a hassle to work on them and to avoid pot holes and speed bumps.
I would figure out your goal for the car. If you just want a little more guts, don't do much to it.... Exhaust, intake maybe, lid, underdrive pulley and a tune and enjoy what little refinement they have. There is a trade off ...more power less refinement and driveability. Manual Cut-Outs are cheap and make power or Electric, but they are expensive but cooler.
Very true.
One very important thing you left out is a trans cooler. Heat kills automatic transmissions. When you upgrade your torque converter add a trans cooler and a temp gauge.
Yes your right,I left that out by accident.I should be writing things down before doing videos but I never do I always wing it.But I absolutely agree.I actually recommend a cooler even with the stock converter if your doing alot of 1/4 mile runs.I plan to do a converter this next coming summer and was looking at coolers with a thermostatic controlled fan which I plan to install in the area where the fog lights are. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
My 99z28 put all bbk stuff 11 years ago still good long tube straight pipe dumped big cam heads intake tb tune it rips ass destroys 4l60
Oh for sure BBK makes good stuff. For me I wish I got speed engineering headers because they match the dual exhaust that I ended up going with.Had to modify the exhaust to work with the BBK headers but no complaints with BBK.They fit good and still look good too.Oh and thanks for watching and leaving a comment we really appreciate it.
Yukon diff gears work so you won’t be howling and you can up the ratio from stock 323, I did 342
Yeah I think I am learning that the hard way.Bought the cheapest gears Richmond makes and can't seem to make them quiet.
Thank you for the video! What would I need to tune my 2002 Trans Am. Hardware, software, maybe instruction books? Thank you again, Mike in DFW
For a 2002 Fbody I believe the best tuning software is HP tuners and the channel goat rope garage is a great place to learn how to use it. You also need a windows laptop but doesn't have to be an expensive one.
Thank you! I assume I need to install a wideband AFR sensor too?
Yes you definitely should have a wide band to safely tune.
This is an amazing video, you’re a smart guy
Thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.
I ground down the throttle body stop about 1/8 inch. Doesn’t open the butterfly much more but does dump more fuel. Yup fuel pump on mine began lowering pressure and I got better mileage until it quit. Had to wait to get an original pump, not Chinese junk
I agree on the fuel pump.Dont want to have to change that anymore than you have too.
Great video and channel. I'm in California so i can't do long tube headers. Are shorty headers worth it?
Well that's a good question. Some people say yes and many say no.My opinion is on a 4th gen or older camaro yes it is still worth it if you have no other choice. On the 5th gen and especially the 6th Gen I would say no because the exhaust manifolds are really good on the newer cars. The power gain will definitely be less but seeing that you are limited on what modifications you can make they will still add a little power.
Around 350hp to the wheels. You need new axles and a Z06 transmission. Also subframe connectors or you will get torque dents in the rear body panels.
Finding and swapping a T56 out of C5 Z06 wouldn't even be worth the time and money vs a "regular" t56, the lower ratios in the trans compared to a 4th Gen T56s are minimal. You have to convert the tail housing on any C5 T56 to work with a 4th Gen. Waste of time.
Great video!! Just curious on what the half shaft mod is, I have a 2000 trans am and did some research on it and can't find any info on what it all entails
The throttle plate or butterfly sits in the middle of the throttle shaft with half the throttle shafts covering the front and the other half coving the back.I cut the front part of the shaft off so it just has the back part of the shaft holding the throttle plate.I don't know if I explained that too well but it is a waste of time anyways I think.I never noticed any improvement with that or the porting of the throttle body. But it was free so I did it.
@@LSxMotorsports2021 thanks I appreciate it!
Thank you for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.
@@LSxMotorsports2021 no problem! Love the videos and look forward to all your new ones!
Good video.
For nitrous you thinks 75shot or 100 shot on progressif mode its a good Idea for safe?
Well if set up properly nitrous can be a easy way to add some serious power fairly cheaply. There is always a risk of something going wrong and grenading the engine but that's true with anything you do to these cars.
@@LSxMotorsports2021 ok thanks for your opinion
nice list but skip all that stuff and get a procharger
That would be awesome.
👍👍👍👏👏👏 камаро z28 94 в России 👋🇷🇺
I have a stock ‘00 SS I just picked up (40k miles) and I just started doing my own work. I’ve installed the intake kit and now im looking at headers. Can the Speed Engineering long tube headers slide onto my stock setup?
No they won't.Aleast not without alot of modifications. But I believe the do sell a ypipe that will make them work with your stock cat back exhaust.Congrates on picking up such a low mileage SS.
@@LSxMotorsports2021 They do have a y-pipe option. I’ll definitely be ordering one!
Did you find a difference with just the intake upgrade ? was it the lsxr? bought a stock 2000 Camaro ss recently myself and wanted to upgrade to ls6 intake but they are not available.. thanks in advance !
I think he was talking about a cold air intake.Which you probably wouldn't feel a difference but you would hear more intake noise. You seem to be talking a intake manifold which you probably would feel a difference with the LS6 intake. And if your talking the Fast LSR intake manifold you would definitely feel a difference but you would need an adapter kit for fuel rails and the stock throttle body because I don't believe the stock setup fits.
@@LSxMotorsports2021 thanks for your reply. I already have the slp intake not sure a k&n is worth it. Likely leave that the way it is. But I would like to upgrade the intake manifold and swap the cam. I'm thinking I should do the heads and headers at the same but wanted to see what is a better use of my money
The best mod will always be a ls3 lol
Well I agree the LS3 is a great engine. A set of CNC Catherdral port heads will flow just as good while making more low end torque.
When you said you were going to include the LT engines in your videos, you got an instance Sub. Most RUclips guys deal with LS and that's it.
Thanks.I am actually a big fan of the Gen 2 LT1.I hope to get more videos next summer on the 94 Z28 that we have on the channel.I think the owner is interested in doing some more modifications to it so we will be there to get that on video.
I have a 95 Z28 convertible, and I'm constantly looking on RUclips for channels that have LT1/LT4 upgrades.
Would you be okay if I post some of your videos to a LT1 Facebook group?
Absolutely.Any help getting views is good for us.
@@LSxMotorsports2021 will good, I hope it helps. I look forward to seeing you your future videos
Grubworm check out his lt1.
How do I tune OBD1?
That's a good question. We are actually trying to figure that out ourselves because the 1994 Camaro Z28 that has appeared on the channel is going to need some tuning next summer because the owner is interested in doing a cam for his car. From what I can tell there is a program called LT1 edit and another called Tuner cat.We are going to dig up whatever info we can to see what's the best option. But it could be awhile before we feature anything on this channel. So my advice to you would be to contact someone who has experience tuning these cars. One example would be PCM for less.I had this guy do a little tuning for me about 20 years ago and I see he is still on the Internet.Wish I could be of more help but tuning is very new to me also.
Swap in an LS 2.
That's not much of an upgrade. Small bump in displacement yes but the heads and intake are a very small improvement over the LS1. If your LS1 is in good shape a set of aftermarket or ported heads and cam will perform much better than a stock LS2.
@@LSxMotorsports2021 who said stock? If you are going to do bolt on upgrades then obviously you do the same to the LS2.
This is true but finding an LS2 is the problem. They are not that common in salvage yards and I don't think GM sells them anymore and it they did it would be hugely expensive. At that cost you may as well buy a stroker motor. This channel is about getting the most out of what you already have as cheaply as possible. Of course there is nothing cheap about modifying cars but it's usually done over several years. If cost wasn't an issue then a stroker motor or an LS3 would be the way to go.
@@LSxMotorsports2021 To each his own. My LS2 giggles.
Gen5lt1. Go big or go home
Have been beating the living shit outta my Camaro since 05' I've only had to do the brakes once, On my second clutch and trans, but I've had to swap out the 10 bolt half dozen time's. Couple times I only got only4-5 hard launches on sticky tires before they howl. $200 a pop at the junk yard! Till last few years they have gotten scarce for that price. So I did a 31spline 8.8. with 3.73s out a explorer paired with my t-56 out of a GTO that has the 2.92 zo6 gears and triple coned synchro's. Tranny shifts like butter over 7k but I don't like the low gearing with a stick car. it's almost as bad when I had 4.10s I only gained 3 10ths of a second vs 3.42s and lost half gas milage.243s are good but overrated! If your n/a Just go with 862s or 706s the smaller valve develop power faster and the better cc chamber. make more overall power and I'm comparing them to my 243's that were actual ls6 heads with better lighter stainless hollowed sodium filled valves I made biggest power gains from the cam swap and NOS!
Solid advice. Thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.
Why ruin a perfect gen 1 sbc in a gen 3 platform? A gen4 camaro, yes LS makes perfect sense
Dude you don’t even have one so why talk…
I don't have what?
