  • Today we remove the cylinder heads on my 99 Camaro. Main reason for removing the heads was excessive smoking and oil consumption. This video is a step by step on how to remove cylinder heads on an LS1.

    Good detail in the tear down however the fuel injector connectors are easily removed......you need to push in the arc part of the clip towards the connector; it will spread the ends and allow you to easily lift the plug off the injector body. no more flying clips. I know, i know.... for an American car, i didn't expect engineers to make it that simple in the 1990's but they did!

    I forgot to say but my z has the traction control option, too. We gotta find out how to bypass it and get rid of that lil actuator and make it like it never had it!

    So
    For the injector clips
    What I noticed after losing two of them was they don’t have to be pulled out completely. They slide enough to release tension and then you can pull the injector out

    The ASR option was $450. Biggest waste of $450 ever 😄 sorry you have to deal with those cables in the way

    all of those injector clips can stay on, just push them in and pull and the harness unplugs from the injectors.

    What year is your Camaro?.. I have an 01' and was wondering if it has an MLS from the factory or composite head gasket..
    Is your original head gasket MLS?
    Thanks

    How do you get around the steering pump to get that driver side head off?

    • @lsxjosh4375
      @lsxjosh4375  Год назад +2

      I had to take the pulley off the pump and then take the whole pump off. Hardest part is getting the pulley off.

    Why did you take off the valley cover?

      Looking back at it I’m honestly not sure. I think I wanted to look at the cam lobes which doing that gives some visibility, but don’t think it’s required.

    What kind of socket did you need for the oil sending unit?

    • @lsxjosh4375
      @lsxjosh4375  Год назад +1

      Orielys should sell a “gm” socket for it. I forgot exactly what it was called but they had two different styles I believe, I don’t remember exactly which one I bought.

      It’s really not bad just time consuming. The only issue I ran into was the ps pulley broke when I tried taking it off so it made it a pain to get the pump off the head and since I had the headers welded they didn’t want to clear the bottom head bolts. Other than that the only thing that would be irritating but not horrible would be torquing them once installed. I installed mine out of the car since I ended up rebuilding the engine.

      Maybe a cutout but that’s about it. I took the corsa muffler off and went with magnaflow since it was stupid loud after the cam. Even with the magnaflow it’s still loud but at idle could be a bit louder at times.
