When our band played this we put in an extra scream in the end and turned the lights off and back on again to reveal that we all died, and it was really cool.
I've been learning clarinet for two years now and we're playing it in band soon. Our conductor played it for us and we were all like "Hell yeah, this is fricken cool". When I saw this part I nearly shrieked; I'm a second and I go up to a high Bb?! (Firsts, rest in peace)
My band went from this (grade 3) to a song called Minor Alterations a Christmas … (grade 5). The grade 5 one has an extremely high Ab. It’s F, G and then Ab but all of them way above the staff
I’ve definitely played worse - as a (junior in high school, but still) sax player, I had to not only learn the clarinet in a month, but learn every note from low E to altissimo G (!) in the process for pit orchestra, and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone - I hope this went well, though!
(Desperately squints at score and reads flute line) (Hits so many wrong notes that even she cringes and gives up) Maybe I'll buy the actual part. (Shrug)
My band teacher got this for us, but told us (the flutes) not to play the first few lines after it is marked in the music that we come in... Not happy because that was my favorite part...
I'm obsessed with this sort of thing and I've got a friend that was in an honor band this past year. She told me that they were going to have a particular song that I would enjoy but didn't tell me anything besides I would know it when they play it. Low and behold they play this song and got a standing ovation!
I like to imagine that this is part of a story that involves some other songs. The story starts with Northern Lights by Alan lee Silva, which then leads to The Great Locomotive Chase By Robert W. Smith, but then the train is revealed to be a Ghost Train, which is a reference to Ghost Train By Eric Whitacre. After the train ride, you get off and enter a Ghost Town which is inhabited by Ghosts and And a Really Old Man. And what does this town have? A Carousel of course, did I mention it’s Haunted? And that of course is a Reference to This song⭐️
My school played this piece in preparation for working with Dr. Svanoe. She is honestly amazing to work with. We did a commissioned piece called Band of Heroes and it was incredible.
@@nathanmed5469 dude, for a middle schooler it's somewhat hard depending on how good you are, like me(trumpet 1st), it was easy but for most other people in my band it was hard.
+Eric Kessler Hi! I'm Erika, the composer. Everyone should feel free to use their imagination make up whatever story they think goes with the music in this piece. I imagine that the poor little girl fell off the carousel long ago (nobody knows why), and she is the one that haunts it to this day. Hope you enjoy the piece!
+Erika Svanoe Oh my goodness! That's so scary! You did an amazing job on this. This is the only song that has scared me. So awesome! That song is going to haunt my dreams.
On the part where everyone is playing forte, what everyone did in my band is roll their eyes back and sway their head back and forth. We were also able to provide a white garden thing (I cant remember what it is called) and percussion would skip around it. It was so fun. Wish I could do it again 👇
My middle schools 13-14 year olds (eighth grade) band played this for the spring concert and music day at school I went n a mad search for it because it just sounds so cool and awesome! Thanks for posting this! The band sounded just like this! Btw: BARITONE FOR THE WIN
The first time I listened to this (which was a while ago), the song actually frightened me so much that I had a nightmare that night. Now I think this is one of the most awesome pieces I've ever heard. 😄
and my theory is this Erika. The carousel was built on the Eel marsh following the events of the first movie in the early 1920's. What happened was that this little girl was on the carousel when it sank into the swamp, along with the others.
We just got this music yesterday and we love it, we got around 30 practice days to get this and two other songs ready for our last concert, we shall see how it goes
i was going to go to that school but my mom changed her mind last minute i love this song though i wish she didn't change her mind bassoon part is cool though.
