On of the Baritone sax players in my band added a grunt over the top of all the stomps and our band director decided we should all do it. Sounded super cool with 60ish kids stomping and grunting it added to the marching effect a lot
@@kyckrox1 Not professionally, per se, but as a legitimate instrument! I was also the 1st flute, but the recorder definitely deserves more respect. We played it last year I was in 7th grade and I play flute and I had to play the tom drum and everyone else was so quite and all I could hear was me and I though I was doing something wrong
I'm in 10th grade right now and my band is playing this at music in the parks. Tomorrow I am auditioning for the flute solo at the beginning (technically it is a soprano recorder solo but we don't have one of those lol).
I love how I scroll through the comments, and there are just common instruments being listed. and I'm sitting over here like. I'm an oboe playing this music. 😢
The beginning sounds beautiful with the flutes and oboes combined so don’t worry about being the only one. There is only one oboe in my band too and I think for this song she will do amazing and so will you so don’t feel left out 😁
My band just started playing this today dude me and my friend aiden were like “dude this is so fucking sick” everyone was thinking this was the best piece we’ve ever played and we’re only in intermediate band and I play alto sax which there are the best parts for its
In my honest opinion I say Oboe flute and recorder have the best parts, leading with a solo from a recorder is quite rare but gives it that nature like vibe, not to mention how beautifully it combines with the oboe and flute???? Amazing pieces, but I also admire the alto sax too☺️
I played second trumpet for the song. We sat right in front of the low brass and next to the percussion, so it was really loud. 10000/10 would play again.
@@Sid-gk2zfI'm a good year late from your comment, but when my school played this some time ago, I was the recorder! As of now, I collect them; I have 7.
That’s a brake drum you’re hearing. It is a metal car part basically which the percussionist hits with a metal mallet and it sounds a lot like a bell of some sort
Lol everybody in the comments is in middle school and here I am as a high school senior playing this. It’s ok though cause we needed a grade 2 to play at the Midwest conference and I couldn’t have asked for a better piece.
My band did this song combined with our beginning, intermediate, advanced, and percussion ensembles. I was a beginning bass clarinet and had started halfway through the year, so I'd only been playing for a quarter when we started this song. It's still my favorite piece to this day. I now play clarinet in advanced band
Hey! Seventh grade percussionist playing the snare part. I’ve got a tip if you are learning this song! Look it up as you already have and then turn the speed down to practice so you can feel the rhythm. Then when you are comfortable with it, turn the speed up until you get to the normal speed. This helped me with every hard song and it made things so much easier because you can go at your own speed. Hoped this helped :)
Ok so I had the mallet part of this for our last concert (8th grade) and I killed it man I was the only one who actually took time to memorize the part
Played this in 7th grade, vest band director I've ever had. I play such simple stuff in highschool now i really wish we played stuff like this in highschool. I play the trombone, funnest song I've ever played by FAR

I agree with @Knowledge Hub on this. I played this in concert band last year for contest, and we did great! Compared to the 1.5s and 2s we're doing this year, this was just a fun piece that had a fancy rating.
i agree my band tried plaing this and it was too hard and i play first clarinet if we play it next year it will be a challenge but i dont think it should be a grade three a grade 2.5 should be its true grading
HOW DO THEY SOUND SO GOOD, my god we sounded so bad when we played this lmao but we’re a high school band with all years mixed together so we had pretty new kids in secondary 1

This song was legitimately a nightmare for me at first. I played the mallet part for it, and I played it at the second district all-district band in Kentucky. I mean…I didn’t practice, so it was my fault, but after the concert, I figured out how to play it. This is 100% my favorite piece I’ve ever played in my concert band experience as a percussionist, and the marching band experienced person in me really gave some choreography to the part lmao. The second chair was my best friend (for I was the first chair mallets in the top band with him), and it made this all the more fun since he was just as expressive as me.
I played this recently at the ASBOF, got gold. I have a performance at the town hall soon playing this as well! I play bass guitar and have the tuba part. I’m grade five, mixed with grade 4 and 6. Only bassist in the band.
I remember when I played this in 6th grade omg I was so happy playing this song I couldn’t stop smiling and when we finished, everyone was so hype about it and we were all cheering when the curtains closed (after we got off stage of course XD)
This takes me right back to quarantine, my band was about to play this in May but the concert obviously got cancelled. So I listened to this all quarantine long and oh boy am I getting flashbacks

For any bands playing this currently, tell your director to have someone start playing a halftime drumset grove at 3:02. Trust me on this one
