Machu Picchu Train Peru 🇵🇪

- ■ MACHU PICCHU, PERU: Having landed in Cusco two weeks ago and being in complete awe over the history and particularly the architectural ruins scattered around the city, I quickly realized I did not want a repeat of my visit to Sri Lanka's Sigiriya.
Long story short, I went there without knowing much of the background of the empire that created the now famous world heritage site and thus wasn't able to appreciate it to the extent that I could've.
I therefore decided to tour other parts of Peru first (Arequippa, Huacachina, Paracas) whilst I also got down to studying the Inca Empire and the Spanish colonial adventure that proved to be its undoing, before eventually returning to Cusco for a visit to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.
I did so not only to be able to narrate properly for you guys as I go to film these sites but also because nothing's more annoying than knowing you didn't get the most out of your visit to what may prove to be the only time in your life you'll get to visit a site.
So without further ado, here's the train journey from Cusco to South America's most famous tourist attraction, Machu Picchu. The company I opted for is Perurail, one of two companies that operate this route through these incredible valleys. The other being Incarail.
So did the train journey live up to the expectations? And what was the food like? And what about my hotel in Machu Picchu?
your vlogs mean so much to me because for someone with an immigrant family living in california it's ridiculously expensive to buy a house (nearly $1M) and even though i want to travel as cheap as possible, the priority for my family is being able to afford a house so these natural style vlogs that makes you feel like as if we're there travelling along with you is very immersive so thank you so much
And the cycle begins
Maybe move back home money isn’t everything brother as long as You’re happy
I grew up in a similar situation. If you’re over 18 move away from your parents and do whatever you want in life. You’ll regret it later, trust me.
Houses are cheaper in other areas of the country. I moved to Illinois.
And I am here with $5 daily wage, never have a hope to cross my border.
I took that train trip almost 40 years ago, and believe me the trains have improved a lot!
Wow! I'm jealous. Do tell.
@@HaraldBaldr Hey man.. Mine keeps leaking.. If i where in public - people would think I was playing with it!
@@HaraldBaldr In fact, that village at the base of the mountain didn't even exist, or was an insignificant crossroads. I did stay at the hotel on the mountain--the train was timed to get you there for lunch, and then most people would go see MP in the afternoon and go back to Cusco. I stayed overnight at the hotel to get a full day at MP, starting in the morning when the tourist hordes weren't there. The thing that impressed me most about the surroundings (disregarding MP itself, if you can) is that the noise from the river was omnipresent: the mountains act like a megaphone so the roar was everywhere at all times. Very impressive!
@@otte9669 You were pretty brave (yeah, I'll go with brave) to risk a trip during the predations of Shining Path.
We did the same trip around 18 years ago... the train has changed.. the people are still as friendly.. oh and we stayed at the same place ... it can rain in the valley and be clear blue at the top... enjoy.
this has to be one of the most epic train routes ever.
How have I missed this video? I thought I had watched all your Vids🤷🏻♂️. And I must say I’ve travelled on plenty of trains in my time but nothing as awesome as the one you’re on here!
This man got me worried something bad happened to him omg its such a relieve seeing Harald
Yeah but I think something bad more likely to happen to Mr Bald than Harald, plus Harald looks like he can handle him self. :)
Same.
Nah he just chillin and enjoying life .
@@79RockShox The video from those islamist extremists in Chechnya targeting Bald worries me tbh, know he can handle himself tho

Harold I’m so glad I discovered you last week. You’re great, funny and informative. I had no interest in world travel until I saw your vlogs. Doug approves!
Harald is inspiring me to travel.
Heraldo para jeff?!!!
Wow, this was probably one of my favorite videos due to how cool this train ride really is. Nature here is spectacular.
This is one of the most beautiful places i’ve seen you travel to in my opinion. Im going to look into this for a holiday of my own

It would do if it was a beer in your hand.

That celeb seemed so impressed and all happy on his insta feed, but he was sleeping through that beautiful trainride, i would do so much to be able to be there and see that amazing nature :O I would not nap through it! haha
This reminded me of my five day train adventure in a one bedroom cabin from Toronto to Vancouver
Fantastic ride, especially through the Rockies!
Harald,
I love how you include all the random views and interactions along your way, makes me feel as if I am there, too! Huge fan 😁
Thanks, appreciate the feedback
Harald Baldr Aww, you answered! I’m an even bigger fan now. 😊
Finally a new video... I literally paused whatever that I was watching when I saw the notification...

I always take a front seat for his videos and by that I mean I watch it no matter where I am . He is that good👍
I was super excited when I was the notification.
I stopped watching joe Rogan immediately. Harald o’clock ☝️
Dude, I know you made a move to be "different" from other youtubers by making the least edits possible and an immersive experience. I've been watching your vids for about a year out of NYC. Please understand that you have not only made me regret not filming in my 2.5 months in the phillipines but also have given everyone the FREEDOM of escaping their daily troubles by being immersed into your videos. In addition you've also given hope to travelers (not tourists lol) to give vloging at least a try. Mark my words, you are the FUTURE of youtube. This is what the globe wants now adays and all your hard work and stress has and WILL pay off. YOU are the solution, thank you and congrats brother!
Peru is beutiful scenes! The sky is soo amazing!!! Watching all your videos has inspired to go! Gracias

Never left, but was doing research and touring. If internet connections hold up I shall upload as fast as I'm able to get it from my laptop to the interweb

Peru is wonderful, when you arrived in this city it looked like Japan to me and what a beautiful landscape seeing from the train! Absotulety stunning Harald!

I showed this to my dad and he told me he stayed at gringo bill in 1987! what a coincidence!
Gringo's bills has been paying the owner for a long time then :)
It's actually nice that you're following along in my footsteps from a few years ago, but taking better pictures! :) Nice to see those places again. We were in a different hotel though, but it is really necessary to arrive in Aguas Calientes the day before and do Machu Picchu as early as possible the next day.

I never thought this city near to Machu picchu would be so beautiful!! I want to move so bad 🤣
I love the big windows in the train. That train looks amazing especially with that wow view
Just when I was about to go to bed.
The trains in Peru look way fancier than the ones in US....wow!!!!
pascal passy ....its embarrassing we dont have a bullet train from NY to LA like in europe
@@robdcollector2808 the US brags about being the richest country in the world, yet we don't have efficient mass transport.
@@robdcollector2808 Embarrassing? You know how big the size of the US is? It's as big as the whole European continent! And yes, there are trains (Amtrak), it's just that traveling from one coast to the other takes 7 hours by flying which is way faster than trains.
@@Roosyer yes embarrassing. The public transportation in this country is a disgrace. You ever travel abroad to Asia, Arab gulf? Our airports are a disgrace, even trump said it. Amtrak is a major hassle and has very limited routes, a total joke compared to the trains in Europe.
50 yrs ago it was nice just like the people .50 yrs later sucks just like the people ..
The town at the feet of Machu Picchu is called Aguas Calientes if I remember correctly. It has changed and grown so much since I visited in the 1980's and the train journey now is more luxurious. I climbed up the mountain to the ruins and I look forward to seeing your video of the treck up there. Enjoy!
