- ■ BOLIVIA, LA PAZ: The Llama is Bolivia's national animal. They bring good luck and is thus greatly revered amongst the populace. It may this seem strange that Llama corpses are sold in the streets of La Paz. Naturally this was something I had to investigate... by buying my very own Llama to take home as a good luck charm. But can I bring it to Europe? And would Bald allow it in the hotel room?

"Quiero" means "I want" and like you say it might sound a little rude or demanding. You can use "Quisiera" that means "I Would like".
Progressive Lance says quisiera. Harald says quiero.
My latin american friends never say Quisiera only Quiero

Not at all, it's ok to say "quiero" just add a "Por favor" (please)
I am from Argentina and "quiero" (I want) is very common to use when you shop. Nothing wrong with that. If you don't want to sound rude, just salute at first: "Hola" or "Buenos días"/ "Buenas tardes" "¿Qué tal? etc.....

Most of the vendors are indigenous people, they tend to be kind of shy and some don't even speak Spanish very well.
@@comrade916 Tourists need to have some respect to the culture there. Perhaps reading about the do's and don'ts prior to going would make your trip more pleasant and less intrusive to the locals.
Yeah it's true most people who sell that stuff aren't fluent in spanish themselves cleary communication was a barrier but at the end he got Jeff hahaha

@@joelloyd2025 Those were witchcraft shops, not meant for the tourists. People take it very seriously. I can imagine just implying if those were for eating when they're sold as charms and for rituals wouldn't be well received. Also shoving a camera in the first place was rude to them. Harald explained this too in the video, plus the fact that his spanish indeed sounds rude. They acted normally.
Spanish is different in all Latin America, but I usually say "disculpe" before every question. It means pardon me also I would suggest use "usted" instead of "tu". And always say "gracias".

USA keeps organising coups against the Indigenous president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, in order to steal their lithium. furthermore America has had a history of meddling in the politics of Latin American countries for centuries. read up on the Monroe doctrine.
and before that the Spanish genocided and colonised all the indigenous people in Latin America.
they have no real reason to celebrate White people there.
For a country with not a lot of tourism they sure do have a lot of souvenir shops
The little tourism they have is mostly from Latin America and Spain, so they do catter to tourists, but they are not comfsortable with English
the “salar uyuni” is the most popular attraction of Bolivia, the most of the tourists only go to that place

I'm Hispanic but I notice that with Bolivians- they tend to be extremely shy and skeptical when it comes to the camera shown in their face, which is not particular for other Latin American countries. Latin Americans are very social and I'm surprised that Bolivians are not like this.

The polite Spanish isn't necessary for a tourist. It's understandable that he isnt being rude when hes asking for an item or saying that he wants, his tone isnt rude.
