  • Any major metropolis worth its salt should have a reputable food market. And Budapest’s Great Market Hall is no exception. As the Hungarian capital’s largest and oldest indoor market, this spectacular collection of food vendors offers a taste for any palate. Looking for seriously delicious charcuterie? How about a taste of the classic Hungarian snack Lángos? Or maybe grab a bag of the country’s famous, smoky paprika to bring back home? Hungarian food writer and cookbook author Zsófia Mautner takes us on a tour of all that and more at this one-of-a-kind urban foodie mecca.

    This market is partly one of the reasons I believe Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. As someone who's been there it's magical.

      HelloOnepiece I studied at Corvinus for a semester back in 2012. It's a beautiful school. Try the little soup place called leves across from the market. They have four different soups every day and they're all amazing.

    I went to this market a few years ago when I lived in Hungary. It's very pretty. Definitely worth a visit, even if just to look around. Budapest is definitely one of my favorite cities I have ever lived in and/or visited. And Hungarian the most impossible language to learn! 😂

      Ooh ah this market is expensive because it is a charm for tourists, since it is easily accessible by tram, trolley, bus or simply by foot and is very close to the river and many hotels. the best markets are those you abruptly just stumble upon, i can assure you those will not be in the downtown/central districts. especially not around the castle or such tourist attractions. but don't be fooled - budapest is very cheap and affordable for tourists since hungarians usually do have a low income

      when it comes to basic stuff like meat and vegetables so not the souvenir crap our market hall in the suburbs (Újpalota) is actually more expensive than this.

    1:37 How did she made this smily faces in the jar?

    What are eyes made of?

    • @imgayy152
      @imgayy152 6 лет назад

      I think the eyes are made out of olives.

    • @Odseparator
      @Odseparator 6 лет назад

      Olives? So small like on the right? After some thought I think carrots (on top left) or pickles (there is a kind of smiall cucumbers) with a seed of pepper to make a black dot.

  • @imageez

    Langos seems like a fun sandwich. Is it vegan, or you can choose the kind of meats?

    • @imgayy152
      @imgayy152 6 лет назад +1

      imageez You can choose the toppings they put on it.

    • @dorkagreznevics1941
      @dorkagreznevics1941 6 лет назад +2

      imageez as far as i know it's cooked in vegetable oil, which is vegan and you can choose the classical garlic type, it's pretty good and there might be other vegan options too

    • @bencecsoda4977
      @bencecsoda4977 6 лет назад

      the basic lángos topping that was favorized for many years was some garlic rubbed on it or some garlic oil, some tejföl ( kind of like sour cream ) and some cheese on it. After that they experimented with other toppings and maybe even went too far just as you saw in this video.
