Just look at how many 90s hardbodies are still running around. Hardly ever see any toyotas from those days. Yes toyotas are great too, but for simplicity and value and what a truck should be, Nissan has always won hands down for me. I had to get an SR Tacoma 2wd to get very close to what I wanted which meant a color I wasn’t crazy about or the 4 door cab. Great review, love that you did one on the base model, most reviewers shoot for the moon with the top models that most people either can't afford or don't want to get gouged on. Comparing it to the new Taco this Frontier has a number of advantages to it, the much better looking steelies, 2nd row seats and opening doors for emergency or little kid use, an infotainment screen that doesn't look like it's glued onto the top of the dash and will survive some abuse, struts to hold up the hood, and finally a real god-honest analog gauge set for the dash. Some things I see the Taco does better is the option to get steel coil springs in the rear for a better unloaded ride, lower maintenance electric power steering, and finally non-metallic bed so you don't need a liner. Since I haven't gotten a chance to drive either one I can't comment on the powertrains, brake feel, or suspension tuning but as soon as the dealers around me get some lower line models in their stock I will definitely check them out.

    • @CEALLIFORNIA
      @CEALLIFORNIA  5 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you very much for the kind words! I will say the steelies on this I agree do have a more attractive look. Also an infotainment system that works far better than Toyota’s. And I will say the Frontier has a much better driving experience than the Tacoma. Not only does the engine sound nowhere near as coarse, but the chassis doesn’t move about in an obnoxious way when braking or accelerating in the Frontier, like it does in the Tacoma. It also shifts smoother than the Taco.

Your review is spot on. The lack of power adjustment for the mirrors is an inconvenience but no big deal. The back seats are for toddlers and double amputees but not everyone needs or wants the crew cab. It's short on the latest tech, but who cares? BUT, now Toyota has eliminated the rear doors and the jump seats in it's extended cab trucks (an obvious cost cutting measure) In doing so, Toyota Tacoma has been eliminated from my consideration for my next truck.

    Looking forward to getting one of these in 2025, my family’s had Nissan trucks since the early 90s and they all lasted for years, I predict this generation will be running strong 15 years from now and all the Turbo 4 bangers out there will struggle.

    Thanks for doing this review. Straight and to the point. One question I have is, how is the leg room in the front passenger seat for someone of your height? If you have the seat adjusted all the way back, are you comfortable or are your knees still really bent?

    • @CEALLIFORNIA
      @CEALLIFORNIA  7 дней назад +1

      You know I actually am not sure. I had my girlfriend in the passenger seat at the time and she’s a lot shorter than me or else I’d ask her 😂 I am going to assume that it goes back decently far as well. Especially considering how comfortable I was in the driver seat, I can’t imagine the passenger seat is vastly different. In a lot of these King Cab/Ext. Cab/Double Cab style trucks the front seats usually go back pretty far. I don’t think you should have an issue. These are just some of my assumptions but I hope they help! Thank you for the kind words and thank you for watching!

    Nice review. Refreshing to see base truck review. They should offer a rear seat delete like they did in the Titan King Cab. 2 wheel drive is all I need. Less stuff to go wrong. Better Payload Capacity also without the added 4 wheel drive weight. I would hope that a factory tow package is available on the S trim. Think I will check one of these out.

    I'm glad someone else appreciates this truck!
    I looked for a white S KC 4x4 specifically for my work truck, and it was hard to find. I paid MSRP in '22, it came with the technology package. I prefer all the black exterior details over all the color matched stuff. A six foot bed is the minimum I can work out of. I had the previous gen Frontier in a long bed CC and the turning radius was horrible.
    Mine came with two hooks on the front. No tow package, but it is an easy install. The wiring is plug and play (etrailer).
    I took the rear seats out for more tool storage.
    Yes, the mirrors are adjusted by hand. It doesn't have the "oh shit" bar over the driver door, just the passenger side. The blind spot indicator is useful as I have a work canopy on the back.
    One thing about the nine speed, if you move the shift lever to the left it goes into a pseudo manual mode, and you have to button shift it up or down through the gears. The gear you're in shows up on the dash, but only in this mode. It's useful when I go on gravel forest roads to just lock it into one gear.
    Nice review!

    Well presented video, I appreciate it. The updated Frontier has been on my radar for awhile now, I like it's no BS approach.
    I love that Nissan didn't go 4 cylinder turbo and instead is still using a naturally aspirated 3.8 V6 with a big boy pants timing chain instead of a belt, and it's very good 9 speed transmission. This is a comparatively simple powertrain that promises to not give headaches down the road. Fuel economy of the turbo gas engines really isn't notably better either, and it can easily be worse if not driven with care. You can have "Eco" and you can have "Boost" but ya can't have "EcoBoost" 😄
    The interior of the truck is fine, no fancy configurable TFT cluster , but also no nonsense and with enough function and "frosting" to satisfy me. Nissan also offers the Crew Cab Long Box configuration, which GM and Ford no longer does. Wondering about the sound of the stereo, I've heard it's not bad, and that the Fender audio upgrade isn't all that necessary. Of course in line with what other makers do, the audio upgrade is part of a package that requires other add ons so it costs quite a bit.
    I have a '17 Canyon and the CCLB format is sweet. The non upgraded audio sucked ass though, so I bent over and got the Bose system, which is decent. As for the long box, why wouldn't I want an extra foot of bed space? At the time I bought my '17 crew cab long box Canyon, the long box was another $300. Yes please!
    My 2.8 diesel has been awesome, averaging 28 MPG lifetime at 78K miles and with 440 TQ at 2K, it is a thrusty low RPM treat to drive, but I have niggling worries about engine failure, GM has had significant issues with holed pistons in the 2.8 diesels. I am doing all the things to prevent that (long story I won't detail here) but if my truck ever does sh%t the bed I'm looking at the Frontier - back to old school no turbos for me...

    • @CEALLIFORNIA
      @CEALLIFORNIA  4 месяца назад +1

      Well those GM diesel trucks have a cult following. The people who buy them usually ONLY want that. They won’t compromise. The mileage is also pretty damn good on them. So I think you have a great truck now. Especially with the long bed. More bed space the better. My F-150 had an 8 foot bed and I miss it every time I think about it… Great truck! I hope your diesel lasts for many years to come. But if it ever comes to you having to buy the Frontier, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in the slightest!

I have no problems with turbos and such, I just didn't want to pass it down to my kid in a few years with those extra moving components to maintain. I just traded my 2020 top of the line Honda RTL-E Ridgeline, for a base model certified 2023 Nissan Frontier S. King Cab with 11k miles on it. I gave up heated leather seats and the trunk & multi function tail gate that opens like a door or regular tailgate. The Honda had every gadget you could think of, which at times was overwhelming. I never did figure it all out. I like the Frontiers old school gages, simple heater controls and actual knobs for radio. Indeed the touch screen is quicker than the Hondas. The 3.8 has more horses and better torque. Long term, simple is better. Yes the Honda rides better and less road noise because rear suspension is independent. The AWD you do not mess with. But again Simple is better. Keep it Simple Stupid. Seats in the Frontier are amazingly comfortable. I sit up a little higher in the Nissan. The ride is acceptable and there is power galore. I got a bargain at only $28k. Most everything on the lot was Pro4X with price tags way out of my reach. No SV's and just this 1 2023 Certified S 4x4. Perfec!. My insurance agent was confused why I would trade in a 2020 Top of the line Honda Ridgeline with only 20k miles for an entry level 2023 Nissan Frontier with 11K miles. As an old Fart I appreciate old school simplicity. Easy entry, comfortable seats and not all the electronic distractions common on new vehicles. I was fortunate to find this early 2023 as no Auto start stop BS & also No electric parking bake. I had a 2021 Nissan Frontier crew cab with same engine & transmission but old body style. Hit a deer 3 days after purchasing it. This did not come with a spray in bed-liner, but I will purchase a rubber bed mat from Amazon. The only dislike is no power mirrors. But no vehicles is perfect, all have their quirks.

    All "S" models do not have electric mirrors. You have to step up to the "SV" Model. You get powered driver's seat adjustment at the SV trim level. I have the 2022 SV King Cab and love it. It is the first major design in 16 years. I have owned three Frontiers in my lifetime: the original 1995, with the 4-cyl engine, the 2010, with the 3.0 Liter, and now the 2022. My base price was $31,000. I have only the two-wheel drive. No need for a 4 x4, which is only for status purposes anyway. Lower gas mileage. I average 36 to 39 MPG on the highway at 70 MPH. City, I get 25 to 27 MPG.
