I just can't give Elgato a single cent after my HD60S became a literal paperweight just because I upgraded my motherboard. The cause? They didn't bother to futureproof it for USB 3.1 ...despite usb 3.1 literally being out and used in consumer products at the time of the HD60S's development. Once motherboards released with only USB 3.1 and above and a couple 2.0 ports, it was game over. I made it work with a PCIe USB 3.0 expansion card for a while, but at some point, windows 10 must have updated the 3.0 drivers to be compatible with some 3.1 devices. The Elgato firmware is so dumb that it'll just automatically tell windows to use the 3.1 protocols that it doesn't support. If you rollback your drivers, the elgato USB handler will automatically update them again and un-fix the issue. It's almost designed NOT to work. It's been 3+ years since they acknowledged the issue and they still haven't done anything to fix the issue. they haven't even updated the firmware updater to check the USB connection before updating so you don't brick your device. They just put a warning on the download page for it.

I'm looking for more detailed advice if you could give. I'm streaming from my ps5. I would like to be able to use stream labs and OBS on my laptop to improve my stream quality, including my mic quality. My gaming headset I use is a Astro A40 with a Mix Amp plugged in through optical out cable, but I also have a Blue Yeti USB microphone available for my laptop. My question is, would you recommend using your Remote Play method (if it works), or a capture card with a chat link Cable? I am willing to try either of they work. Thanks in advance and keep up the great content!

If you got with the top 4 cards I mentioned they are solid and don’t have delay like that. And you don’t wanna play off the OBS preview due to an even greater delay. You want to watch off your display.

Do to having to upgrade my TV after my old one died on me, I got the 4K life and HDR going, but my old HD60 isn't able to keep up with it while I stream unfortunately. I've been looking at the HD60X simply because I enjoy using the Elgato products, but I do appreciate the knowledge you've brought to me concerning the other brands available. The USB HDMI capture device did surprise me as a bang for your buck option.
The HD60X wrecked my GPU in my series x. I did a warranty claim to Microsoft and they gave me a brand new console so I didn't have to wait too long. By the end of the night I was looking at pixelated colorful bars. After two months Elgato paid for my 3rd xbox😂.
Just stay away from Elgato capture cards imo - I have two HD60X cards that both have audio issues. It seems many many people online have this same issue. I've gone back and forth for over a week with Elgato support and they have nothing. It's likely an incompatibility with the current Windows version that they don't want to acknowledge.
That’s a great card, better option than the S+ as it goes for older cards. Couldn’t include all the cards in this video tho, it would of been stretched forever.
Thnx! Hoping to get a reply: Bare bones starting, can I capture (record not stream) from Switch to anything and then plug in or send that to my new iPad Pro and edit the video using iMovie and then send to RUclips? Quick question, in my case I have an 8gb ram, intel i5 pc. If I start streaming it handles it’s own very well. So with this context is the cheap generic capture card for my ps4 a good choice? I don’t have the money for the expensive ones, but I wanna know if it’s worth it to spend 20$ on the capture card to stream on my pc, or just use the built-in streaming from the console. Let me know if it will cause my pc to lag or any quality and technical control I need to know for what I want. Cheers.

Thank you so much for this video. It just so happens that the #1 capture card is on sale rn and is only $139. Initially I wanted the elgato HD60X, but that's $179.99 rn. I'd be silly not to grab it while it's at a lower price!
@@MidnightMan since I have a MacBook, would I be able to use my Mac charger to stream what the capture card gets from my console to my MacBook? And to get the response to “max charger uses usb-c instead of usb 3.0”, I can just plug a usb 3.0 to usb-c converter in.
This is a great video! But I was wondering if you’d be able to help me? I own a series X and I want to specifically make game review content. I was wondering if you could help me or make a video about what programs to edit with and adding commentary over already recorded gameplay! As well as a good microphone/headset. Money is not an issue for me in particular. Thank you in advance!
For great video editors I would go with adobe premier or davinci resolve. They are are advanced but you can do so much with them. As for a good microphone I recommend any of these: www.amazon.com/shop/midnightman/list/116GORDKPD2DR?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_m I own the wave 3 and it’s great.
i was curious why the mira generic capture card wasnt mentioned, it usually replaces the the basic single hdmi capture device because the mira doesnt need a splitter and when you look at the cost of the $16 capture + $16 splitter you end up within the same price range of the mira
that's a good card for sure, and it's more practical for gamers. There are so many capture cards out there I couldn't include them all, but maybe I can test it out for it's own video. We shall see.
I'm hoping to make some videos about the xbox series s and wanted some footage. I think the generic one will do fine. This is all mainly to get me out of my comfort zone and try to learn editing and video making. Hopefully It's a good challenge.

I bought an EVGA Pro because of this video, but realizing too late that there aren’t a lot of tutorials for Evga cards. Do you have a video explaining how to set up the EVGA with A wireless headset/gamedac for PS4/PS5 so that I can record both gameplay, and game and mic audio all at once? Thanks
If the headset is connected to your console, that’s where the audio is going to go. It can’t go to both your computer and your console unless you use your computer and remote play through it, then it would work on both. This video explains that last method ruclips.net/video/6QQUse46dkM/видео.html
Man I have a good question to you! Its possible to active VRR and ALLM on PS5 when using a splitter/capture card? My experience says that the answer is NO! But i really want to see your opinion! Congratulations for your video!
Good question! The newer cards coming out support VRR which will allow for flexibility in the amount of Hz your display outputs. The top 3 cards in this video support VRR.

Question - so I have a ps5 and a gaming pc. I have a webcam setup and usb mic for my pc. If I don’t care about game chat and am recording RUclips videos then can I just the cheapest 4k 60 capture card and call it a day ?
The chat audio on PS5 goes with the game audio, you won't have one and not the other. You can go with the cheapest option, just keep in mind you'll need to pass all your audio over hdmi, meaning you'll need to listen to all the game audio from the computer and not directly from the console.
Yo I got a question. So if you were to purchase the generic usb and wanted to still use a usb microphone for stream commentary, I noticed you said there was no line in audio available for it. So would i be able to connect my usb microphone into my MacBook assuming there’s an extra usb port and it work for stream commentary ? Any help is appreciated!

I’m planning to make the move to it shortly, so I’ll have a greater amount of time to test it hands on. Odd that audio wouldn’t be recording properly, HD60X analog can’t be switched on M Macs because there’s no software
hi, so I want to start a minecraft youtube channel on my nvidia mx230 laptop core i5 and the gameplay is fine, I get around 60-100 fps, however when I start recording with xbox game bar or obs or any other recorder, it drops down to 20-50 fps, so my question is, can I use a capture card on the same laptop to record my gameplay without fps drop? (I'm planning on buying a cheap 10-15 dollars capture card to start my channel with but not sure if it will fix my issue), please respond
Yo GTA5 and Mafia games blocks the music when i capture footage using the console capture. Will an external capture card allow me to record the music too?
Im super new to RUclips, I decided to just stream to twitch while in a solo discord voice chat.. it did work but my mic quality sucked so I need to get a better mic 😅 but hopefully that can help anyone else who also cant afford the pc setup right now
do you have to plug your microphone into the capture card in order for it to record your commentary? or can you just plug it into your console and it will record your commentary?

Glad I could be of help!
Thank you so much for this video. It just so happens that the #1 capture card is on sale rn and is only $139. Initially I wanted the elgato HD60X, but that's $179.99 rn. I'd be silly not to grab it while it's at a lower price!
The thing about capture cards and the generic capture card with an hdmi splitter is that it requires 2 hdmi cables
I recommend the Mira box capture card to avoid having to use a splitter an extra hdmi cables. Price balances out
@@MidnightMan yo those are like half the price of other reliable capture cards thanks man
@@MidnightMan since I have a MacBook, would I be able to use my Mac charger to stream what the capture card gets from my console to my MacBook? And to get the response to “max charger uses usb-c instead of usb 3.0”, I can just plug a usb 3.0 to usb-c converter in.
This is a great video! But I was wondering if you’d be able to help me?
I own a series X and I want to specifically make game review content. I was wondering if you could help me or make a video about what programs to edit with and adding commentary over already recorded gameplay! As well as a good microphone/headset. Money is not an issue for me in particular. Thank you in advance!
For great video editors I would go with adobe premier or davinci resolve. They are are advanced but you can do so much with them.
As for a good microphone I recommend any of these: www.amazon.com/shop/midnightman/list/116GORDKPD2DR?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_m
I own the wave 3 and it’s great.
i was curious why the mira generic capture card wasnt mentioned, it usually replaces the the basic single hdmi capture device because the mira doesnt need a splitter and when you look at the cost of the $16 capture + $16 splitter you end up within the same price range of the mira
that's a good card for sure, and it's more practical for gamers. There are so many capture cards out there I couldn't include them all, but maybe I can test it out for it's own video. We shall see.
@@MidnightMan thanks for the reply, im going the mira route, this hd60 aint cuttin anymore
Oh yeah for sure!
@@MidnightMan mirabox was just dropped off, its as plug and play as the hd60 was when i got it. very grateful for the 3rd party options.
hi, could you send the link of the product?
I'm hoping to make some videos about the xbox series s and wanted some footage. I think the generic one will do fine. This is all mainly to get me out of my comfort zone and try to learn editing and video making. Hopefully It's a good challenge.
Keep it up my friend ❤
Can I use one capture card to plug into my gaming pc or ps5 depending on if I wanna stream Fortnite or 2k ??? (My gaming pc and ps5 would be connected to my laptop)
Would a capture card grab the party audio? If you had a Bluetooth headset how would that interaction work? I’m on ps5
Just discovered your channel and dude are you the real life Miles Morales!? Love it man, great content keep it up
I want to record my ps5 gameplays, will my pc with ryzen 5 3600 and GTX 1660 super work well with elgato HD60 X?
which capture card should i use if im recording on xbox and want to edit my recording on pc?
in this video "Cloner Alliance" look so Smooth u can see?
Midnightman to the rescue!
Cam knows what’s up!
Thanks. I tried to use the built-in system on the PS5 but when exporting to my MacBook some of the files were not working. Sometimes free is not always best haha!
thats the truth lol
Hey out of all the capture cards which one do you think is The best for switch And which one is best for streaming(gamaing) on laptop ?
The top 3 caps a mentioned are great for both of those things
@@MidnightMan So you mean at the end of the video where you put first second and third place? Also do they come with good audio
Any Programm recommendations that are free?
I maybe late but let me ask you this, did you figure out how to get the ps5 game chat out of the kuhaimi capture card that would be a great video.
I bought an EVGA Pro because of this video, but realizing too late that there aren’t a lot of tutorials for Evga cards. Im having a hard time getting my microphone audio from my Steel Series Arctic Pro Wireless headsets in the OBS recording.
@@MidnightMan thanks man! appreciate ya 🙌
Wait I’m confused I need help .i have a monitor that supports 144hz but it’s 1920x1080
@@MidnightMan Yes! Capture cards ok. But when we talk about splitters?
would love some advice for setting up my capture card and ps5 and monitor. so i have the x gaming monitor ultra 4k hd capture card and i lenovo think center tiny desktop pc how is all this suppose to connect? it shows up on my monitor but not the tv
@@MidnightMan awesome thanks, and thank you for replying!
@midnightman please I need your help man . I keep having blurry gameplay with my evga….
Yes. It’s where I’m at currently on my twitch. But an usb hub and plug your mic into that. Then in OBS, set up your USB mic as an audio input.
what if i just want one for game recording & editing not streaming
HELP OR NOTE THIS: xr1 pro does not seem to work well with Mac M1. I can't record game chat. I tried all different set ups. Yet, it does have nice camera pass through. MidnightMan my friend if you connected this or know some one who did let me know. I don't know if it works. I have the hd60s+ and hd60x, and getting chat while recording game 2k 60 is not happing.
Thank you for the help as always, but I wonder if this was a overlook. I know you don't use M type mac. Let know what you know, or figure out. thx
I’m planning to make the move to it shortly, so I’ll have a greater amount of time to test it hands on. Odd that audio wouldn’t be recording properly, HD60X analog can’t be switched on M Macs because there’s no software
Can imuse this to connect my xbox series x to my samsung galaxy tablet s8+ instead of using remote play
Great video!
I need this stuff for my 2003 xbox
Does the first place work with tablet? if u use a converter?
How to i get a audio like in pc with capture card i only wanna know about the audio for Call of Duty
hi, so I want to start a minecraft youtube channel on my nvidia mx230 laptop core i5 and the gameplay is fine, I get around 60-100 fps, however when I start recording with xbox game bar or obs or any other recorder, it drops down to 20-50 fps, so my question is, can I use a capture card on the same laptop to record my gameplay without fps drop? (I'm planning on buying a cheap 10-15 dollars capture card to start my channel with but not sure if it will fix my issue), please respond
It’s the EVGA compatible with Mac? And if I have a 2k monitor 120 fps it’s compatible with the pass through ?
For the EVGA card, will my party chat hear me if my headset is connected into the line in port?
Welp I’m about to get a job I wanna stream for a living ain’t nobody stopping me💯💯💯🙌🏾🤩🤩
Yo GTA5 and Mafia games blocks the music when i capture footage using the console capture. Will an external capture card allow me to record the music too?
Im looking for one that works on ps4 and mac
I would go EVGA XR1 Pro or Avermedia LGX 3
@@MidnightMan Thank you MidnightMan, for answering this question since I had the same question.
Im super new to RUclips, I decided to just stream to twitch while in a solo discord voice chat.. it did work but my mic quality sucked so I need to get a better mic 😅 but hopefully that can help anyone else who also cant afford the pc setup right now
Dude I need your help with my Nintendo switch and capture card
I’ve seen people use the PS5s feature that streams the consoles screen to your PC for playing games to use it with OBS without a capture card.
do I need a minimum of 120 fps for the cards to work properly
so the hd60x can work for mac, but it just doesn’t allow the 4k features correct?
The 4K utility tool does not work (can't use CHAT LINK cable) on mac, you can record in 4K using OBS on mac though.
Everything is right connected but my monitor is black and in OBS i can see my ps5 screen! Help me
I use te Elgato 60HD X on my ps5 with MacBook Pro and chat link and rode mic.
Wow Thanks! But I live in Poland 😂😊
do you have to plug your microphone into the capture card in order for it to record your commentary? or can you just plug it into your console and it will record your commentary?
Commentary is captured by plugging it into the computer
