    Great video, one helpful hint for people with a stuck tub. You dont need any extra tools just skip that step and go on to hammering our the shifter rod from the bottom side with the tub and all. Once out the tub is free, pull it out and then hammer the shifter out of the tub from inside the tub. Tub puller is only needed when you don't want to replace the bearings.

    Dude! You saved me a ton of money! My girlfriend was having a fit to buy a new washer which cost between $700 - $900! I told her, for Heaven's sake, buy me the kit and tool and I'll do it and save you some serous cash! If I fail, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? Thanks to your video I did the job no problem! THANK YOU!

    Most repairmen would quote this repair very high encouraging the owner to replace the washer. This is the kind of repair that a homeowner does themselves when saving money is more important/critical than convenience. Excellent video btw!

    Just gotta say 6 yrs later and this is still helpin folks man, better explanation than most and even included your mistake AND the correction with a forewarning so we dont have to hassle with the order of when to add the washer.... Thanks to this video i was able to find it was just debris in the bearing and some pb blaster andspinning by hand was able to work it out of the bearing way with out having to replace bearings or the otherwise fine spindle.... The plastic magnet ring in the bottom beeded cleaning too as the debris was STARTING to erode the plastic ruffles that match the spindle

    This was a great video. My brother & I were able to do this repair very easily. It really worked out great with two people. I would like to say that we have a great deal of mechanical ability when it comes to replacement of bearings and seals. We used to repair scaffold hoists for a living. The step by step instructions were very good & helpful. This was the first time we have ever tackled this project. So, the video was very helpful. The only thing we regret was the cost of the Driver Tool. We are retired and probably could have done this job without the expense of the Driver Tool. But, without our Machine Shop, we felt that the expense was needed. We know how important it is to get bearings and seals lined up properly. The Driver Tool was able to do just that. Now, with that said.....Is there a need for others to share in the cost of a GOOD used Driver Tool which was used only one time and for only 15 minutes?? BTW, our repair was a total success. We could have NOT done it without this video. Thank you!!

      My washer kept shooting kept shooting a code (F8?) and after watching a video from this channel I too almost bought the tool until I took a closer inspection with my flashlight and discovered an old wash rag stuck between the tub and agitator😅 That tool is not cheap saved around $120? It’s leaking water now but I think I’ll just buy a new one

    Great video. Replaced everything much quicker than anticipated.
    One thing to note, the Bravos XL has 2 screws you must remove to open the top. Putty knife does nothing. Also, to properly tighten the stator, use a small T handle Allen thru the cap holes to keep it from spinning as you tighten.

    Great video. A couple of comments.
    1. My instructions did not say to add grease to the bearings, so i did not
    2. You were the ONLY one, to call out the issue of the bottom washer seating improperly when installing the bottom bearing. I too set the bottom bearing twice and the washer was not seat correctly. However, the bearing press tool will seat all the way to the bottom and you do not know that the washer is wrong until you try to remove the press tool. I had to remove the bottom bearing twice. I found your video and the washer seated perfectly! Thanks
    BTW if you seat the bottom bearing and the washer is not in the correct position, it will jam it up into the spacer, resulting in the spacer getting bent. I had to spend quite a bit of time to hammer it back to round.

    Thank you so much for your video. I ordered my kit and the instructions were far from easy to understand. They of course didnt show removing the basket and we spent an hour trying to remove the shaft and couldn't figure it out until I watched your video. Next time I'll pay the extra for the tool but we made it work with some washers, nuts and a threaded rod. Thanks to you we also figured out how to put the seal in correctly. Whirlpool and Maytag need to have better directions.
    Thanks for your lifesaving video!

    Great video of explaining the process and the mistakes he did and how to correct them. I just finished doing the bearings and seal, it works great. I do want to share an extra pointer. The bottom nut was pretty hard to get it started. I would recommend to try to make sure it fits smoothly before placing the shaft in the washer. Once, you can get it started outside of the washer, then when you put the shaft in its place, the nut will easily go on. That was an issue I encounter, but easy to address before you get started. Again, thank you for the video.

    Thanks for the video it helped me troubleshoot a rotor position sensor fault code F51. Since the procedure to replace the bearing involves removal of the stator and rotor I could see what all of these components looked like before taking the washer apart. Big ball of dust fell out of the rotor assembly during removal, cleaned up rotor and stator and F51 code went away!

    OUTSTANDING video. Thanks for walking me through this. Had no experience doing this kind of repair. Bought parts online and watched your video... step by step.. took me several hours. My Maytag Bravos sounded like a freight train during spin cycles and started leaking rusty water on the floor. Figured a bad seal ruined the bearings over time.. Everything worked well and I'm back in business !! Only suggestion I would make is that after placing the top bearing loosely into it's housing... that you unscrew the nut on top of the bearing press tool almost to the end (to give you more rod length) before placing through the bearing.

    Adding my thanks here! Followed the instructions and fixed my machine for the cost of the kit and tool...about $80. I had one major hickup though..my upper bearing had basically exploded. When removing it, only half of the bearing came out. The other half had to be cut out using a Dremel tool. Nobody's fault, but a serious pain in the A$$. Once it was out, everything went back together seamlessly and now she's running smooth and QUIET! Thanks again

    Thanks for this video, it definitly made the job alot more easy than trying to do the job "cold turkey" ie; no video help! I had the very same issue with the spacer sleeve and spacer washer shifting slightly out of position which caused the shift shaft not being able to drop into place. If this happens to any of you DO NOT POUND THE SHIFT SHAFT DOWN! Looked closely with a flashlight and felt with my finger I could see the sleeve and washer were misaligned which ment I had to loosen the bearings slightly by tapping ever so carefully with the punch tool and shifted them back in alignment from the top (used a long screwdriver to move the spacer) then reinserted the bearing tool and retightened the bearings. Now I was able to slide the shift shaft down thru the bearings and finish seating with a few hammer taps on top of the shaft.

    Great video. Thanks for the upload. I have the same washer and the same problem. Followed you video and just saved $300 at least.
    The only problem I ran into was getting the stater hub off. The bolt was rusted on there and stripping the allan wrench hole out. Since it has such a flat profile and rounded, I had no choice but to use a dremel tool and grind away some plastic so I could get some vice grips on there. Even then, I had to bang it off to the last thread. When I put it back on the new one, I dabbed a little grease in there to help prevent that. It should still stay on there even with grease. It has a very fine thread. It's going to have to make many turns to come off.
    Thanks again. Thumbs up!

    I had the same problem with that washer that is placed between the spacer and lower bearing. Made 3 attempts and on the last was able to correct it with the metal bar that comes with the tool kit. I like your solution better. FYI: Pouring a kettle of piping hot water on the "tub hub" enable me to remove a stubborn one.

    For the most part this video helped! There are a few things to add to it though. There is an alignment hole in the stator that you can use for keeping the rotor from turning with a screwdriver while trying to take the nut off, and to make sure you have the right size allen wrench in there! This was my mistake and ended up tearing the rotor bolt up. Also you don't need their $200 tool to put the bearings in. If you have ever replaced wheel bearing races you can figure it out, and I actually use the shaft to line everything up straight. Also, be very careful not to break the tabs off of the position sensor, otherwise it'll be loose.

    I also had trouble getting old shaft out, didn't get the press tool to get tub out. Great video, very well done, thank you for doing it.

      One can use a bottle jack and 2x4's to pull the tub out.

    • @joshrvcardjoseph7438
      @joshrvcardjoseph7438 3 года назад

      @@Jake-by9ly my buddy and I almost tried that, we ended up pulling the tub and shaft out together then putting it up on two sawhorses and beat shaft out w several chunks of 2x4 (as the shaft proved tougher than wood) to a successful end.

    FYI: It's not a "shifter", it's the "Main Power Shaft" or simply "shaft", or even "axle". Otherwise, great video! Excellent tip about the washer. This was my third time to change the bearings and (thanks to your tip) the first time I didn't get the washer jammed in crooked. Good job!

    just used this video to replace mine, some advise for the next video would be to show close ups and bring up how some key parts go together. Like how the bearing looks when pressed in

    Hey thanks for such a clear, easy to follow walkthrough.
    How do I know when the shifter is in the right position when I'm driving it in? Can it go too far, or does it stop?

    • @michaelchilders2012
      @michaelchilders2012 2 года назад

      this machine doesnt have a 'shifter'! but the Shaft has a flange that bottoms out against the top of the top bearing. it is also possible to to overtighten the toot and drive the bearings in too far that the spacer tube and washer bind and make it hard to install the shaft. they should have s very slight freedom of movement before installing shaft. (i always check the washer has side to side movement but not up and down). the spacer tube and washer should be greased but not the outside of the bearings

    You're video is a great explanation of how to do this repair. I listened to the other video you made showing the diagnostic mode where you mentioned how it sounds like an airplane. My Cabrio made the same exact noise and I also described it as an airplane engine on takeoff. I thank you for sharing your knowledge and skill and thank you for patiently describing every step of the process. Now, I know I can do this repair. God bless you.
