    When it comes to the NHRA's new Factory X class, Geoff Turk has been the first at a few things. He was the first to display a completed race car at the 2022 PRI Show in Indianapolis, and almost four months later, was the first documented of the next level of Factory Stock Showdown cars to hit the track.
    The first two out of three aren't bad. It's just the third one of the firsts that has Turk kicking himself.
    Turk also became the first to crash a Factory X car.

    Don't look away from the track at speed, that chute handle is bright enough. He twicked the steering wheel looking around for the lever. Glad he is ok.

      @kh40yr Год назад +3

      @@michaelsimpson5964 Don't know about 100%, but it seems that way. He stayed in it past the stripe a bit and got in the marbles on the left, then they spun and slipped. Then, couldn't figure out the problem quick enough. A fumbled chute lever didn't help, but would have felt better.

    • @Slinger43
      @Slinger43 Год назад +4

      Absolutely spot-on observation my friend 💪 Didn't have a clue what caused the crash, not until I watched the in-car footage & the second I saw him look up, well I knew the cause then 😒 smh. Glad he's ok, that's what really important.

      I didn’t the wheel when I looked up for the poorly placed chute button I stupidly insisted in trying to make work, and the easy to see, get to handle was right next to it. I steered the car to the right intentionally because it made a move to the left at about the first MPH cone, as I was correcting to the right I reached up to find the button. If you had the lateral Gs and steering, plus you can see the car move left before the stripe, you’d understand more and wouldn’t need to speculate. Lastly, all that and the car was still well under control, the real problem and the hard move left happened when I got into the finicky, lock prone carbon brakes, mandated in the class, at first no real response, and no chutes out to slow or straighten, I mistakenly pressed harder, not extremely hard, as only the fronts then locked, sending the car hard left.

    That little wheel twitch when reaching for the chute was a bad choice

    • @geoffturk2966
      @geoffturk2966 Год назад +5

      That’s not what happened. The wheel twitch was an intentional correction from the car moving left. There were bad choices, a poorly placed chute deploy button that I insisted to make work vs. just use the handle, and not fully fearing / understanding the lock prone, reverse input / response nature of the class mandated carbon brakes.

    The NHRA is starting to ruin this class already. Ford and Mopar run one supercharger, while GM has another. Ford runs the smallest engine, and they can't run turbos like they come from the factory with. In the 60's you ran what came from the factory. It was competitive and fun. Chevy had little success. While Ford and Mopar dominated. The NHRA will continue to favor certain teams and Chevy, they always have. That is why attendance is way down, and they are dying. Next the sponsors will move on. That is what happens when you slant the rules.
