    • @vichentez
      @vichentez Год назад +55

@@CinnamonCaramelStick I’m sure the use of the word “babies” is just an exaggeration, you can regard someone as immature and still be respectful of them. I would argue not viewing them as sexual beings is the most respectful you can be. If 1 in 100 15year olds aren’t mature enough to consent to sex, then we shouldn’t have sexual interaction with ANY of them, even if the 99 are. It’s to protect those that aren’t ready yet, this is why those laws exist. Anyone who says “depends on the individual” is usually just trying to justify their attraction to young people. I’ll keep viewing 16-17 year olds as “babies” to protect them.

      @YoHoHoAndCake Год назад +22

@@CinnamonCaramelStick I think the comment isn't calling 18 year olds babies in regards to general maturity per se, but regarding a sexual/romantic lens. They're not saying 18 year olds are dumb or that they don't have anything of value to say due to immaturity or that they're less. It's not about that. What people are pointing out is that when you are in your twenties most people will see 18 year olds as "babies" in the sense that you can't really consider them in a sexual/romantic light due to them being and looking so young in your eyes. Give it a couple of years and I think you will think the same.

@@vichentez I mean, I can't say much, because I got exposed to sex against my will at 8 years old by a 9 year old relative and I don't know where he learned it from 🤷‍♀️ I've always been sexually aware and knew more about sex than any of my peers and most adults I know. But I think I remember when I was 16 I was ready to find a man and have children and when I turned 17 I was glad I didn't. I definitely think 17 year olds can grasp the concept of consent and consent, and that maybe even some mature 16 year olds can, but I usually draw the line at 17. I started dating my boyfriend when he was 20 and I was 17. He didn't know my age at first and vice versa and I was always more mature than him and the controlling one in the relationship 🤷‍♀️ Since I had my consent taken from me as a child numerous times I should know better than anyone that my boyfriend isn't grooming me. Maybe we should be more concerned about other children being predatory to children like what happened to me and where they're learning this from. My worst SA experience was actually with someone 3 years younger than me but stronger than me (when I was 15 no less, yes, I was SA'd by a 12 year old) and that's like... Societally unpresented and I wish there was even a niche community to talk about it but I've found nothing. All I can do is try to not raise my kids to be creepy as fuck and to not expose them to anything. Not defending BoyInABand, I do agree that that age gap is way too big, but 18 vs 22 isn't a big age gap and should be normalized again. I'm sexually active with my boyfriend. There's nothing weird or gross about it. Wish someone would take notice of how these kids are growing up too fast in my generation in a more scary way than anyone seems to have realized yet.

06:00 bro, the "American thinking" is not the fact that you believe that age gap may be troublesome, it's the fact that you believe it should be a universal truth because it's just what Americans believe. Europe is (thankfully) not the USA.
For starters, in more than half of the american states, the age of consent is also 16, so legally the US isn't even that different in this regard. Now think about this: a 17yo is a minor and still in high school, and a 19yo is an adult maybe at university or already working full time. I suppose, with your logic, the 19yo can't "gain consent" from the 17yo child despite they being almost the same age and equally mentally developed, just because one is a minor? On another note, can we stop thinking of people who are 16 as "children"? They don't magically become full adults when they become 18, the process is a lot slower and more gradual than this and you know it. Also, the US has no problem letting them drive and risk other people's lives on the road or putting them in the workforce, that's a lot more adult responsibilities that they can have in most european countries. Hell, in Colorado, for example, law allows children as young as 9 YEARS OLD to work. I can see how the US definitely cares a lot about the well being of children. I wonder why american morals and laws aren't universal...
Speaking of mental development, the average person is fully mentally developed at around 25yo, so a 16yo isn't mentally developed, yeah, nor is an 18yo, 22yo and I'd argue some people have trouble even long after that age. So should we make the age of consent 25? It is true that the older the person becomes, the more developed they should be, but that doesn't mean they will automatically use that development to take advantage of younger people at all. It happens, of course, but so does every other bad, immoral, and even illegal thing that could happen to a person.
Also, the age of consent in real life and human relationships is USELESS. Studies say that, in the US specifically, roughly 35% of people had their first experience before they were 16. 1 of every 3 people could NOT legally give consent, yet they still did it. How could that happen? Because the age of consent is not what you think it is, it's more of a guide for people to follow than an unbreakable moral and legal rule, but in the end the actual issue is not the age (except below 13) but rather how society acts on it, and of course the fact that abuse is possible in all relationships regardless of age because one of them treating the other horribly doesn't start being an issue only when one of them is slightly underaged. Fun fact, do you care to know what studies say about the first experiences among the British population? Around 30% for people younger than 16. In a european country, full of weirdos as you say, where the age of consent is 16, people below this age seem to engage in less sexual acts than in the USA where, as you know, some states have an even higher age of consent. Again, this all comes down to society. British people seem to understand and respect the age of consent a little better than americans do. Not bad for the weirdos.
You americans need to learn not to be so polarized and self centered on everything. Not everything is black and white, right or wrong, moral or immoral... And americans don't have the right answers to anything just because they're americans. The views on many issues differ a lot from country to country. You think a young adult dating a consenting minor is disgusting? Ask east asian people how they feel about westerners losing their virginity before adulthood. People are different, cultures are different, and views on many issues are different. That's how it is and that's how it will always be.
Very good and solid video nonetheless, but swing at my fellow europeans and I'll defend them every time, more if you're american. Only us europeans are allowed to attack other europeans.

I think it’s odd that you use the phrase “literally a child” for a 17 year old. Yes, at 17 you are still technically not a full grown adult, but in a year or so from that you’d graduate and get a job. Were as a real “literal Child” would still be learning their multiplication table.
I think there is an acknowledgeable difference there. Not to mention, it’s not like Dave was in his late twenties or even thirties then, but instead early twenties. Plus, we don’t even definitively know if they had a explicit sexual relationship or not.
Pedophilia, has been thrown around as a default for any somewhat complex situation regarding relationships and law. When in actuality pedophilia is when an adult rapes or sexually abuses a minor (think 5-10 year olds). And, though I personally don’t agree with BoyInABand’s actions if the statements are found to be true, I think there is a debatable line there.

Firstly I'm aware that something not being illegal doesn't make it moral. I'm a person that was SA'd at a very young age by my older sisters friend at the local childrens play area that was literally 2mins from my home.
Now that my personal info is broadcast to the interwebs... it kind of is "American thinking" though when the UK doesn't have "sophomores" - secondary education is from approx 11-16 then further education is post 16 which includes what the UK call college (not the same thing as college in America) higher education is university so the equivalent of the American idea of college so using terminology that reflect the American education system literally constitutes the idea of "American thinking"
I don't even know anything about Dave or BoyinaBand and have never heard about this creator before now so my response has absolutely eff all to do with what they have or haven't done but when you are taught in schools that the legal age of consent is 16 from primary school age and the secondary education system make a very big deal about it too with personal and social education classes about things like sexual health and related issues and would that seem questionable to someone that is taught with the standpoint of 18 being the age of consent - yeah, clearly.
To any other country where the age of consent is 16 they just end up biting their tongue because saying "Oh but she is of the age of consent" results in backlash, being called a predator themselves or being branded a sympathiser by people that live in countries where the age of consent is higher.
In the UK however there are extra stipulations in the law that relate to 16 and 17 year olds in which it is illegal to:
-Take explicit photos or videos of someone under the age of 18.
-Pay for sexual services from someone under the age of 18.
-Take part in sexual axtivity with someone under the age of 18 if you are in a position of trust: so teacher, social worker, doctor, care worker.
-... 🤔Take part in sexual activity with someone under the age of 18 if they are a ...member of your family!
(OK, enough internet for today... wtf... it clearly has been a case that has happened if it needed to be stipulated in case law so i'm sorry )
I'm not sure whether the law intends to change to cover online influencers into this category of being in a position of trust due to them being influencers but I certainly am interested to see how that plays out, laws have to change and adapt to the times at least they do in the UK. I've seen countless auditor videos on RUclips with some Americans coming up against cops in traffic stops like "I'm a sovereign citizen, I don't NEED to have a license to drive a car" like dude, clearly that law was created in a time where people were driving around horse and carts not a big hunk of fucking metal that can kill someone pretty easily!! Sheesh!
But I digress, I will look forward to seeing how the law in the UK adapts (if at all) to cover social media influencers, I do believe it should though personally, there's clearly an imbalance of power in a situation involving a 16 or 17 year old and a social media influencer with thousands if not millions of subscribers/fans/followers.
Sorry about the length of this comment.

I'm not using this as a justification for anything else he was caught doing/accused of, but I don't think that community post poll should be used as evidence against him in the way you're using it. Just a thought as someone who considered myself a fan of his (and maybe still do. I won't condemn him without his side of the story or proper evidence against him): Dave is someone who uses dry humor. I 100% believe that the community post poll about his meds was not meant to be taken seriously. Read the full post. He said he was sharing his experience with medication, therapy, and mental health issues because seeing honest things like that from other people on the internet has helped him in the past. He says how his psychologist recently suggested that he up his meds from 10mg to 15mg and that he had started doing that per their guidance. So he wasn't asking fans for advice on his meds because he already got it from his doctor, and following a doctors advice on meds doesn't sound like substance abuse to me. He was trying to help himself and do the right thing to get better. To follow all that up with a legitimate "Hey, should I just OD tho" doesn't fit. The question and poll at the end was meant to be a joke. You can argue if it was in good taste or not; the implications of a parasocial relationship, etc. But it wasn't him "asking children for medication advice".
Furthermore, I started watching him as an older teen/young adult. Judging by the dialogue that I observed in the comment section of his videos, most of his fans were/are that age as well and even older. He did analytical videos, music content, and social commentary. He swore and spoke of adult centric topics - not necessarily explicit, just political and social things that children don't care about. It's not like he was making Kidz Bop raps. To dumb it down to him having "an audience of children" just because it's convenient to provide something "damning" given the current situation is a mischaracterization of the facts.

22/23 year old with a 16/17 year old is yucky as it is but its even yuckier when I put the age gap into context that I can put into picture. Two examples:
    1. That would mean someone two years older than me at present would be sleeping with someone the age of one my younger cousins. As she lives with us now, I can speak from two viewpoints: a past 17 year old and a present 20 year old who interacts with a 17 year old daily. No matter how mature a 17 year old considers themselves/is, they are not mature enough to consent to a relationship with a 20+ year old.
    2. I'm a 20 year old getting my bachelors degree, in my 5th semester. Majority of my classmates are in the same age range(20-21). So, a 22 year old would be, following the same math, in 7th-9th semester of college (or you know, possibly graduated from college if the course is of 4 years). Similarly, a 16 year old is a 10th grader. And a 17 year old is a 11th, at most 12th grader. So we have:
    • Worst case scenario: A 10th grader with a college graduate.
    • 'Best' case scenario: A 12th grader with a 4th year bachelor student.
    Neither is good.
And I've probably messed up the math somewhere considering I think I kept Dave at 22 even when Rachel would've been 17. But the situation is yuck as it is and I don’t want to put myself through editing the math when the existing one still proves my point.

So far the only things Dave has basically 100% confirmed to have done are: Be depressed, date a 16 year old (which was questionable, but not illegal), and make some edgy lyrics and jokes while making a 'gangsta rap' style song 8 years ago (meanwhile other gangsta raps talk about rape, drugs and guns all the time).
It's clear Dave hasn't always had a sparkling reputation, but him being depressed and going through an edgy phase almost a decade ago shouldn't be enough to condemn the guy and certainly doesn't account for everything he's been accused of.

There’s no universal opinion on what a “child” is and with leading politicians proclaiming marriage for 12 year olds in your country you should probably not die on the hill of a 16 year old being a “child”. I know where the cultural differences come from as someone who grew up between the USA and EU, but a country that executes 14 year olds being tried as adults, allowing “children” at 16-17 to die in war, yet want to control every other aspect of actually growing up like alcohol, sex, voting and medical rights needs to chill about cultural differences online and IN THEIR COUNTRY. Maybe whenever Americans actually find out what they think “children” are they could properly educate them and prepare them for becoming an adult gradually while actually protecting them!
When are Americans adults though when they are lacking in education, consensus and rhetorical skills. Never?

The internet is pretty well known for violently lashing out normally, so imagine how bad it can get when you are actively in their scopes. People are gonna be less willing to listen to your side of the story when the internet currently hates your guts. So the smart thing to do would be to hold your tongue for a while, try to collect your receipts, and say something after the internet has mostly calmed down and moved on from it. Think of it like taming a wolf. If you had to choose to do it when the wolf is actively hungry and pissed off, or wait until it's full and calm?
None of this is to say that I think Dave is innocent, mind you. There's enough here for me to go "yeah, fuck him" and delete his songs from my Spotify playlist. I just don't think silence is a particularly suspicious part of the whole thing.

on the other side i think why Boyinaband isn't responding is because he's already stepped away from the internet anyway because of his mental problems and abandoning his "Boyinaband" brand would do minimal impact to him, and also since his actions are technically still legal he isn't really pushed and rushed to do anything, so yeah we either gonna just see this whole entire thing just fizzle out or Boyinaband get cornered by "something" and will give a statement eventually

The group chat screenshots were proof that the letter was massively exaggerated. For example what they consider a pattern of physical abuse was they read his journal and he had written about BDSM. His pattern of financial abuse was a woman did work for him and he paid her for it. An example of the abuse they suffered from him was they felt humiliated shopping with him because he only bought microwave meals and the cashier commented on it.
The real issues seem to be along the lines of what was said by his ex with the diss track, and that he will just stop contacting people when it's not working out.
All of the attention has been on how he was smeared as a pedo using the fact that he publicly dated the 17 year old when he was 23, and considering most have made their judgement clear they think he deserves to be labelled a grooming pedo regardless of any context of the relationship, there is no real reason for him to come back online to talk about it just because some youtubers think they are owed it.
He could highlight and clarify the context of the throwaway rape song being intended to mock pop song lyrics, and point out the obvious false allegations that were made, but it doesn't really matter what he would come out and say as it wont help his reputation anyway. Also in america there's the romeo and juliet law that allows some relationships of 16 years old with 18 or 19 years old. So your own argument doesn't work within the states or anywhere in the world. Personally I believe it all depends on mental maturity of the involved. A 16 yo can be incredibly immature as well as mature enough to be considered an adult depending on the person.
Also age gap doesn't bother me much because my own parents have a 10 years age gap, but that is beside the point.
The law that makes it legal for a 16 yo to date someone older exists for a reason, and it's not to "enable" certain types of people; but to allow a more mature 16 yo to have a relationship they want and not feel like they are being prevented from getting it.

a big thing to remember with the UK is the age of consent is 16. which has caused a lot of issue when stuff comes up on the internet. even in the UK there is a lot of mixed feelings when you get situations like this of a 16 year old sleeping with someone in their 20s, you get people who dont care because its legal, you get people who understand its legal but still say its morally apprehensible and those who believe the age of consent being 16 should only apply in cases of a 16 year old sleeping with someone else who is 16-18 and that overall age of consent should be changed to 18
not saying this to defend, i personally am one of the people who find it morally wrong to date someone at 16-18 while being in your 20s regardless of what the law says. Im mainly bringing this up and so many people are quick to jump on situation like this and claim they're a pedo which is a seriouse accusation and should only be used when its properly applicable

What if you knew the story of a 16-year-old who fell in love with a 22-year-old, and they stayed together for five years until one of them passed away and they probably would’ve remained together if that hadn’t happened would you still say it’s disgusting because I would say they were in love. Although a 20 year old dating a 16 year old is weird and I wish people never did it, I don't see it as a black or white thing. What would be needed is him using his age as a manipulative tactic would then make him predatorial. I don't think most people in this thread agrees with us though lol. Heck I'd go to the extreme and say a 20 year old could date as old as she wants and while it might be weird but I don't think it'd immoral with 2 consenting adults however if the older partner manipulates then that's an issue.

On the subject of BIAB dating aa 16yo as a 22yo. I do agree that that is kinda icky, BUT, you need to relize the the laws where you grow up affect how you see things. If something is completely normal growing up, that is going to feel normal to you untill you activally change that. If you were raseid in a place like the united states with laws saying that anything happening between someone over 18 and someone under 18 is bad, you are going to think it's bad, and when presented with another opinion you will most likely not be able to wrap your head around how anyone could think that. It's the samething that happens when growing up being immerssed in a religoin. If your entire life it is drilled into you no sex till marrage, the first time you meet someone who has never beleived that, you will be completely baffled how anyne could think that was okay. On the other end if you have never been taught that something is bad, when you met someone who thinks it's horrible, you'll be confused as to why any one would think that. To you, it is totally normal, it is so weird to think that it is wrong. What I'm trying to say, is that he most likely saw apsolutly nothing wrong with it, that's why he was so casual talking about it. It my have never even accured to him that someone else whould think badly of it. There is more of a problem with the fact that she was a fan (and obviously the abuse IF it is real) then there is one with her being 16, no matter how icky that may feel.

Your laws are not our laws and our morals are often based on stuff like law and religion that was around us growing up. Grasping the concept that different people think differently is something 5 year olds do, can't believe you can't...
I dated a 21yo when I was 15 completely legally. I broke up with him because I decided he was treating me immaturely. I am now 21 myself.
I do not have any trauma from dating him. If I do have it from any of my exes it would be from one that was actually a few months younger than me, because he treated me like a sεx toy and I still can't let go, still can't let myself be a human in the bedroom.
Their age didn't mean anything. All that did was their actions.
Someone long ago decided because I was 15 I was capable of making my own decisions.
Could I turn around, say he grσσmed me on the internet and get a bunch of pity points? Of course I could. It's the internet.
    Would I? Never.
Because I will not overwrite the law that says I made my own decision. I am not gonna infantilize myself against all that. And I don't regret dating him one bit. I have other exes to regret.

Honestly I think a 6 year difference from a 16 yo girl (who typically are a little more mature for their age) and a 22 yo guy (who are typically a little more immature for their age) isn't all that large of a gap, if you take maturity into account it's more like a 3- 4 year difference. And, it depends on the individuals, as well. And if it's legal there, how is it that we, as Americans, feel that they should feel immoral about it? Yeah, here it's considered that a 16 yo can NOT "legally" consent to a relationship with someone older than 18...but that's here... And, how exactly is it that 18 became the magical age of consent, here?? If she had been 18 and him 24, would that have packed just as much of a punch "morally"?? How many years in that gap, is moral? I'm just saying a 6 year gap, in a country that 16 is IS the legal age of consent, is not that big of a gap.
That aside, idk how young his preferences actually go. However, I do think it's possible his lack of response to allegations could definitely be due to his depression/mental health. I also struggle with severe depression and I know, for me, there are times that I literally do not have the mental capacity to deal with things, especially altercation/confrontational things. I tend to disappear and sleep a lot, to escape life, when I feel attacked or overly stressed. Hell, when I'm really struggling, it doesn't even have to be much stress or much of an attack, it could just be my *perception* of something being stressful or someone attacking me. And if I'm bad enough to be having S. Ideologies, sometimes I don't even have the mental capability to even entertain the idea of doing anything but using stressful things as fuel and justification for those ideologies and why "I should just....X_X" However I can really only speak definitively, for myself, but it's possible that he could also be hibernating to escape any confrontation.... Or consequences, if there's some to be had. Or not able to escape his own mind, enough to respond to them.

    Hi, I'm from Sweden.
We have a lot of strange laws in Europe, but in Sweden there's actually one worse.
In Sweden, a boy can give legal consent when he's 16 years old. That's because the brain is considered by the people who makes laws in my country to be the day when you can make decisions like that.
In Sweden, a woman can give legal consent when she's 15 years old. That's because "women mature faster than men", something usually said in middleschool to put young boys in their place when they get uppedy towards younger girls. It's a bit like saying "Well, at least I'm smarter." and since that is so ingrained, teachers won't bother getting deeper into why this girl was bullied in the first place, boys will be boys and they'll get lower grades because they are dumber. This somehow is also a legal thing so if you're a woman you can just give consent one whole year earlier.
But the kicker is, if you're _a gay woman_ your age of consent is like that of a boy - 16, why? It's not stated.
Now, I will however agree with the dude on 6:00 on one point; people on the internet are too damn Americanized. Your problems are Our problems even though they don't fit in at all.
People have made comparisons between the Sami and Native Americans, which is fucking wrong and fucked up. We're not a "fucked up old country that doesn't know what it's doing" we're all an entire species of "fucked up old countries that doesn't know what the fuck they are doing."
But in general I'm extremely tired of having problems of other countries projected onto my country and seeing the problems my country actually have be ignored in favour of an external problem we don't even have. I'm not blaming Americans alone, I'm also blaming people in my country for thinking your problems are our problems. Left and Right over in my country is not the same as Left and Right in yours, we have literally taken a mold of your society and your problems and we're trying to fit in it and we just don't.
That being said, just fucking make a global 18 Age of Consent, we're not in the stone ages anymore and this is just vague shit that makes people "think it's ok" somwhere else, it's moral leeway and I don't think anyone but the perpetrator would want.

How sad is it when you're at the point of "oh.. Another one"
